Thanks so very much for posting this. I especially appreciate your interpolating a video clip containing scenes from the movie during the playing of the "Theme from 'A summer place':". A beautiful film, and with all due respect to Sandra Dee and Troy Donahue, watching it now, at the age of 69, I am so impressed by seeing a bunch of terrific "old pros" delivering the goods: Richard Egan, Arthur Kennedy, Constance Ford, Beulah Bondi, and most especially Dorothy McGuire, giving another her delicate, understated performances. Again, my thanks!
1959: 71-year-old Max Steiner wrote four separate major themes for "A Summer Place"; the most popular was the "Young Lovers" theme, which was the one Percy Faith picked out, wrote his own arrangement and sold a gazillion records with.
Sadly, the large white Victorian mansion shown in the movie as the hostelry was a real home in Carmel, California, and was badly burned in a fire in 2021, and was demolished in 2022. It is shown on the window card displayed here.
