+Smoking Cat Moved on, yeah sure! Contemporary film music is usually composed by a guy named "Copy/Paste". The "original" is Hans Zimmer. Even the awesome John Williams imitated him (or was "asked" to) in the last "Star Wars" directed by the Walt Disney corporation. That's the problem: the younger generation is exposed to music dictated by people who see the movies just as a business, don't take any risks, go the safe way: remakes, remakes of remakes, reboots, franchises and Hans Zimmer soundalikes. Want a great contemporary movie soundtrack? Buy a software called "Symphobia", play at random with two fingers and you're done. Trust me. Google it. P.S. or go "wall to wall pop songs" using rap/hip hop or '60s retro stuff with a depressing "singer songwriter"-style title tune.

The contrast beween reality and imagination: Sitting in a concert hall without daylight, wearing a suit, seeing an orchestra, men with bow ties, violins, a choir, clarinets... But your ears insists that the sun burns on your skin, the dust of an endless horizon itches in your nose, you are alone in the world, driven by sadness, pain an the thought of revenge, and that this is the moment everything has been leading to.

Nevermind, found it in another video description"The legendary harmonica sound of "Once upon a time in the west", a soundtrack by the late Ennio Morricone played live in concert. This main title of the famous western movie is dedicated to the awesome composer and conductor Morricone by Munich's Radio Orchestra (Münchner Rundfunkorchester) and was recorded live in 2010. The conductor is Ulf Schirmer, the soloists are Cornel Ionescu (harmonica) and Masako Goda (soprano)."

Some soundtracks instantly make a film recognisable.. Ennio makes a movie fit the song.. an extremely talented man who’s work will be appreciated for decades to come, a partnership with Sergio Leone was a team made in heaven but of all the scores in the westerns , ‘Harmonica’ is for me the greatest of them all.. it works on every level.. the whole movie, from the script to the music and the cast is just a masterpiece!

This scene is so well edited... And the next scene with Claudia going from the station dock back to the street, camera raising over the roof and showing the little town with the woman singing getting more intense...
This movie is just a masterpiece.

It is not difficult to know from where this glorious song originates, the feelings it produces, the final scene where it all comes together, the harmonica says it all!

Heil to old timers. I'm listening an art which was made back in 1968, why? Because they were doing unforgettable arts for future but today's gizmos like Rihanna or 50 cents etc.just doing for today not tomorrow and I'm sure they won't be remembered after a year or so... old timers deserve the BIG RESPECT!

+suhas a Ecstasy of Gold is EM's absolute best piece (IMHO), but the overall score for Once Upon a Time is definitely second place. Pure brilliance by EM. The reason EM worked so well with Leone is due to Leone's extremely sparse dialogue. Leone just let's EM do all the talking - it's brilliant film!
