I dived this wreck a month after it went down. I regretted it as it was basically a grave yard. As a sign of respect we were told not to go inside as 500 souls, maybe more went down with it. There were walkmans and suitcases littering the sea bed. A sobering heart wrenching experience.
@@marcothorsen950A month the corpses would not be as rotted as you’d think, particularly in those colder Baltic waters. They’d be decomposed, but still very recognizable

From Scuba life: History of the MV Salem Express Since it was transporting passengers returning from the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, the ferry was filled to capacity, with estimates of people on board at around 650. Only 180 passengers were rescued after the wreck, but the total loss of lives is a point of dispute. The official number is 470, a figure that was reached by subtracting the number of survivors from the maximum number of passengers allowed on board. This figure has long been disputed, as it’s common for ferries in the area to sail over capacity during the pilgrimage season. Some reports have indicated that there may have been as many as 1,000
Anyone who has visited this area of the world during peak season knows full well that the ships are packed well beyond "official capacity" which effectively has no meaning there to begin with , and is generally an unenforced technicality. I would be surprised if there werent more than 1,000 aboard when it went down ,although it is easy to see why both the Owners as well as the Govt want to use the much lower " official" number.
So peaceful, and serene despite the tragedy that unfolded there. Some of the belongins still preserved. Truly fascinating exploration, at one point I thought I saw a teddy bear 😢. May the victims Rest in Paradise 🙏
I hope someday when the war is over in the red sea, they could also dive in the redsea and in God's will somebody will find the MV TUTOR ship because the ship is lost somewhere in Eritrea June 12, 2024 and my father was the 2nd Engineer in MV TUTOR he was the only one missing and he was working in the engine room that time when the MV TUTOR was bomb by a missiles and he is still missing until now😢 our family believe that his remains is still in the part of the engine room in 2nd deck.
I'm still praying and hoping that someday that my dad remains will bring home to us, because our mother died year dec 2021 and now we lost our father who is working hard to support us💔😢
I am really surprised by the condition of the ship since it sank thirty-three years ago. It looks like it was down there longer, considering the amount of sea life on the wreck.
@@jimmycline4778 you'd be surprised at what can be revived. There's a channel called Jennings Motor sports that pushes to the limits what can be saved. Though of course in this case, there'll never be anybody dedicated enough to these inexpensive cars to try to retrieve them from the ocean floor.
They probably know pretty close how many were aboard if tickets had to be purchased prior to boarding. They will just never admit to it, for if they were actually overloaded it now becomes negligence in many countries... and negligence payouts are usually unlimited...
It true especially for the Andria Doria, many have died diving her wreck by getting tangled and stuck, an experienced and careful diver will be OK though.
No , any bodies external to the wreck would be moved away from the wreck site by the huge seas. There will have been many hundreds below decks when it went down. I neither wanted to see bodies either by accident or curiosity. I left the wreck for a dive on the reef instead.
Grave robbing is a sad fact, when the Costa Concordia sunk only a few days later the first grave robbers went in to steal valuables, even some divers from the dive teams working on refloating the wreck were arrested for stealing...
@@DerDrecksack87 that's disgusting. How can some people live with themselves. I'm not saying that to be witty. Honestly How do they look in a mirror? No shame. Terrible
@@movieforge01 grave robbers have been always around, i absolutely agree that its a despicable way of treating the memory of humans who passed away no matter how or where, but especially in cases like this where 99% of the things were just personal belongings like clothes, long since eroded electronics & bags, its not like this ship has carried gold bars. But still, last i heard almost nothing of the luggage remains as divers over the years took a bunch of "souvenirs". I think wrecks like these should be restricted from access for at least 50 years or until the last of the relatives have passed, they have no knowledge to offer like all the historic wrecks from hundreds of years ago, its just a tragedy that ppl dive because of the shock factor. Nevermind how dangerous these wrecks get that have cars & other heavy cargo pushing against rusting metal walls where ppl dive trough, cables & pipes posing a high risk of trapping, so i would highly advise against diving these sites unless somebody wants to join them in their watery grave. There are many recreational wrecks of ships that have been sunk on purpouse, there is no reason to disturb a mass grave except morbid curiosity.

what sort of a briefing a diver can get before diving into a wreck like this? like no touch to anything, no souvenirs, no swim near heavily dusted objects?
They went inside the wreck. That's disrespectful, in my opinion. I have dived the Salem Express. To me, it is okay as long as you ar respectful and don't enter the wreck. It is just like visiting a cemetery. A quiet, thoughtful place. But don't do anything to disturb the dead and the tranquility!

why would they block areas with human remains rather than bring them to the surface?
Good question
because they want to hide how many actually perished as the ship was 100% guaranteed more then 2x over capacity.
What happened to the wheels on some of the cars?
The ones the pressure from the ocean collapsed the others most likely the rims and lug nuts rusted away and the tires floated
I believe the wheels on the car went round and round.
