Dream Machine tarred and feathered by Jerry Lawler (1981) Classic Memphis Wrestling Angle

- The segment begins with a match featuring Jerry Lawler versus Nightmare #1 (Danny Davis). When Lawler beats the Nightmare, the First Family (with Jimmy Hart, Dream Machine, Ted Allen, and Bugsy McGraw) runs in to deliver the beatdown on Lawler. Jimmy has brought molasses and feathers to the ring so he can get revenge on Lawler, but the babyfaces in the back all come out to save Lawler, spoiling his plan. After a short battle, the First Family retreats but they leave Dream Machine in Lawler's clutches to be tarred and feathered.

In that "Wrestling Organization", it was all about Jerry Lawler. Nothing more, and nothing less. Kinda like Hulk Hogan back in the day, when he was in the Then-WWF.

At that point, I was saying to myself:"Shut up, Lance"! They're going to do it anyway, so you need to let them go on ahead, and get their anger and frustrations out. Period!

.....and after Lance Russell keeps on trying to get The Dream Machine to calm down, and go back to the Dressing Room, The Dream Machine looks like he wants to literally attack Lance Russell! Lance, as big of a legend as he was, sometimes just didn't exercise his right for knowing just when to shut up! Ya can't blame The Dream Machine for being so furious here. I mean, come on! Getting beat up, & tarred and feathered by a "King" and the latest in Elvis Impersonators, HAS to be embarrassing!!!!! His own Manager, Jimmy Hart, and Hart's "First Family", had been driven away by Lawler and Dundee, as well as anybody else that cared to get in on the fracas. I have to feel for The Dream Machine, in more ways than one. If only we could have seen inside of him, so to speak, we'd be able to understand The Dream Machine a lot better. He was worth his weight in Gold.....many, many times over!!!!!!!!!!
Great angle here! I have never seen or heard a wrestler react so violently to a tar and feathering as The Dream Machine does in this segment. Too funny!

@Lillian2167 Let me tell you something, from the late 70s until the early 90s, Memphis Wrestling had it all. Anybody who wanted to be somebody had to come here to Memphis. This clip was what we enjoyed EVERY Saturday morning. Wrestlers were totally degraded here in Memphis.

"Nightmare" Danny Davis would later competed against Brian Christopher in the USWA in the 1990s.
There was a Nightmare One and 2. That was Nightmare 1 and it wasn't Danny Davis. Danny Davis was much smaller. That's his future tag team partner.

I would have loved this even more if Jerry Calhurn wasn't out of position to count the Small Package pin and thus Nightmare #1 should have had enough time to kick out of it. Not very convincing at all.

Jim Cornette told the story about the Kentucky Athletic Commission rep at Louisville wouldn't permit battle royals because going over the top rope was a DQ. He also legit fined Jonathan Boyd $5000 and Jarrett had to pay the fine just so Boyd could come back the next week for the blow-off to a feud

I never cared for russell his part never changed anytime the slightest mess started he was already trying to stop it sometimes before it even started. The action inspite of russell was great.
