  • A lot of work has gone into this conservation project and we are excited to announce that we have 6 week old crayfish babies on-site! These babies are adorable as they go about their daily crayfish lives just like an adult would.
Some stunning shots captured of mother crayfish holding onto the craylings before they leave their mum at just one week old.

Report any crayfish sightings, regardless of species, to the Environment Agency Hotline on:
    0800 80 70 60 - Ask for the Fisheries, Biodiversity & Geomorphology Team.
Whenever you are using any of our waterways in the UK, remember 3 simple steps to help protect our crayfish:
    1. Check:
Check your equipment, boat, and clothing after leaving the water for mud, aquatic animals or plant material. Remove anything you find and leave it at the site.
    2. Clean:
Clean everything thoroughly as soon as you can, paying attention to areas that are damp or hard to access. Use hot water if possible.
    3. Dry:
Dry everything for as long as you can before using elsewhere as some invasive plants and animals can survive for over two weeks in damp conditions.

Crayfish 1: "Hey! Who ate my skeleton!"
Crayfish 2: "Did you write your name on it?"
Crayfish 1: "I did not think I needed to write my name on it - it was obviously my skeleton."

Wow, it actually seems to be a really complicated and stressful process for you all. And I didn’t think you’d have to worry about Mummy eating the bairns!! 😮
Great work, best of luck with the babies. They’re cute little wigglers!! 🤗

7:24 Do you think feeding them Sea Monkeys might trigger some people?

Are you making the new babys resistent to the sickness or is this not possible?

    • @NorthumberlandZoo
      @NorthumberlandZoo  Місяць тому +2

Unfortunately, that’s not possible. All we can do is reintroduce them to an ark site that is free from signal crayfish and the plague.

@@NorthumberlandZoo super sad! Very nice that your zoo is doing a great part in keeping them intact.
