The actress that played Rita shouldn’t have left GL in ‘81. Although what could have made a good storyline is when Holly returns to GL in ‘88 before Roger returns, Rita should come back surprisingly to Ed with his jaw dropped and they could’ve remarried and tried to have another baby.

Yes, it was great. They had a whole week of Ed and Rita filmed "on location" in NYC (really, they just brought the cast members and crew outside and filmed, since GL was already taped at CBS Studios in New York), and there was a great scene filmed at Cartier on Fifth Avenue, where Ed buys Rita a beautiful silver bracelet; the bracelet would, in fact, play a pivotal role when Roger raped Rita, where he stole it from her and then gave it to Holly, causing Ed to wonder how Holly could have a bracelet just like the one that he bought for Rita.

Thank you so much for posting this Edwyn. I've been hoping for so long for a video with Gordon Rigsby as Dean Blackford. I loved coming home in high school and watching these eps and seeing these eps. with Rigsby. And love the inclusion of the brief romantic interlude between Brandy Shelloe (Jo Beth Williams) and Dr. Peter Chapman (Curt Dawson). I'm not quite certain, but I do believe that this episode dates from late-September or early-October of 1978, because this is from like a week or two before Roger rapes Rita. I know I have notes on these eps from both Soap Opera Digest, and from the soap summaries in the newspapers @ the time plus some of my own memories @ the time. Let me see if I can consult my notes that I have and I'll see in a few weeks if I can get you an exact date of this episode, and I will post it here for you.

Rare is footage of the Dean Blackford character! I am familiar with the history of the show through reference books (the 50th and 60th anniversary books) and I watched a lot of episodes on and off throughout the mid '80s onward to know a lot about the show. But actually seeing footage of a character I'd only read about is nice to see. I'd love to see the debut episode of the Spaulding's in November 1977. I think there are episodes on UA-cam from the week after Alan, Elizabeth, and Phillip arrived but not the actual episode that introduced the characters. I've never seen any episodes featuring the guy that was murdered, Ramon del Villar.

By the way Edwyn there is probably more video from both "Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns" from 1978 out there either in VCR form, DVR form or on computer software or hard drives. I've actually seen in a black & white kinescope copy form scenes from the next 'day' in Springfield from this episode and the hearing for the custody of Phillip and Elizabeth getting in digs to Alan, but Alan doing exactly what Mike said he'd and more in belittling Elizabeth. I've also seen on-line before scenes from an earlier in the year '78 episode again about the custody of Phillip issue shortly after Elizabeth filed for divorce over Diane Ballard. I've also seen some scenes in other vids regarding Bill Bauer's return from the dead also from early in 1978, and from November 1978, Roger Thorpe being plowed into by a car (later to be revealed to be Dean Blackford's) in the Spaulding Enterprises garage from around Thanksgiving time 1978 (November) that would have also been while Ed and Rita were being married. Also Tom O'Rourke (Justin) did have more scenes in 1978 with Brandy Shelloe (Jo Beth Williams), one that did show up on here shortly before he died and his widow kept on here.

The episode that I’d give anything to see again was early 1978, with crazed Georgene Granger holding Rita and Eve at gunpoint in their apartment building laundry room, eventually confessing that it was she who had, in fact, murdered her husband Malcolm, and her father-in-law, crimes for which Rita had stood trial two years earlier.

20:08 Is it really good to give kids Reese’s? It’s still candy. It’s easy enough to make peanut butter cups or bars homemade by melting chocolate into muffin cups or pan, pouring over a mixture of peanut butter blended with butter and powdered sugar and then adding more melted chocolate on top then letting it set.

Rita really was a pretty lady. Didn't they bring her, and the original Hope Elvera Rousell;and Krista Tesreau as the original Mindy back for one of the last episodes?

No they did not. The producers tossed GL’s classic history long before the show came to an end. It’s sad that the fans didn’t get to see their classic favorites one last time.

Philip looks just like Justin. Definitely a Marler. Philip was bought by Alan spaulding after Elizabeth's baby was stillborn. But Alan never told Elizabeth about it. Only He and his Oily Attorney was privy to this information. Jackie is Philip's Biological mother, and only married Alan to be near her Son. Jackie pleaded with Alan not to divulge the truth about Philip not being Elizabeth's biological Son, knowing that the truth will leave her completely gutted. Alan's wrath was appeased when he found out that Jackie was carrying his baby after he lost custody of Philip to his ex-wife, Elizabeth.

Didn't the young actor that played Freddie Bauer, when he grew up worked in one of the World Trade Center's? He died inside one of those twin towers.😪😔🙏😭

I don’t think that it was Freddie, but the actor who had played Sara’s adopted son TJ.

I believe you are referring to T.J. Hargrave, who originated the role of Tim Werner, of who he was predecessor to Kevin Bacon in playing the role.
