  • Lots of divers like to snorkel and having a full face mask snorkel can be fun. Alec tries a two air intake snorkel with one-way exhaust valve and anti-fog film.

    This looks like a much better design than previous single tube versions. I have used before, you always end up re-breathing your own exhaled breath a little bit. tried it once and got pretty scared because I ended up feeling pretty lightheaded in some deep water😅

    I remember seeing those ping-pong ball snorkels everywhere in Florida when I was a kid. They weren't that great but whomever invented them made a lot of money.

      I have a double tube snorkel mask and although it flooded (a lot), I made it to almost 80 yo. These are a lot better than mine and I hope they keep on improving them so folks get comfortable in the water and maybe want to become divers some day.

    I’m aware of a similarly configured FFM that accommodates a Smaco minilung on one side and has a snorkel on the other.

    When I was a kid in late fifties, my father have bought me a mask / snorkel like the white one you show at the beginning of your video.
    Dam that I had fun with that elementary mask.
    In fact, the twobas is a reiteration of that old mask with its qualities and some of its defects.
    To what I've saw, there is no provision to pinch the nose for balancing the ears so it is a surface only mask, not a viable mask to adapt for an Aquanaut surface compressor.
    very good topic
    excellent video as usual.

      It's a surface snorkel mask, or maybe a few feet, as i didn't find any equalization feature on the product. Most snorkelers are scared of going deep so this would work for them. Glad to know more 'stone age' divers had the same super fun gear.

    So rather than 'the hassle of a mask and snorkel' you can have something twice the size and that won't dis-assemble to pack?

      Some people have TMJ or other mouth/jaw issues that prevent them from using a conventional snorkel.

      It's a fun way to enjoy seeing underwater without becoming a diver. They may improve more, but for the average teenager and up, it's ok. We have come a long way from my double ping-pong ball tubes.

    Hey Alec! Great review! One question I have about these types of snorkel/mask set ups, can you clear your ears? It doesn’t look like you can squeeze your nose at all. Great concept though!
    Keep em comin!

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
      @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter  2 дні тому

      There is no way to clear ears using the product as it's only for surface snorkelling or a few feet. Lots more to come.

    As mentioned, most of the cheap versions have a CO2 problem. The better brands have the snorkel part divided up into 2 or 3 separate parts, and has the exhaled air go out a different way than it comes in for that reason. The air leaving the mask at the face rather than a separate tube I assume would have the same overall result, so probably not much difference there. I'm not sure if there is any benefit of a second snorkel tube, since you would still be breathing in the exact same volume of air. Maybe slightly less resistance and thus easier to breath? I never had trouble with a snorkel, but perhaps? What I am really curious about is the fact it claims to keep water out of the snorkel. How well does that work? I've never had a snorkel that did that part well. And if you don't exhale through the snorkel, how do you purge it if water does get in? I guess an old fashioned snorkel or a regulator are what I will continue to require.

      I think this double in, one way out setup is good for non-divers to see and have fun. Nothing is perfect (except my wife!) but for those scared of anything deeper than 4", it should be fun.

      @@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter So if water does get in how do you clear it?
      With a simple traditional snorkel you just give it a big blow.
      Also, how quickly can you free your mouth/nose in case it is flooded? Being strapped around the head makes that a lot harder.

    Does it have Flappers inside like a Full Face Respirator?? What I am asking is, Air gets pulled in the Lense portion. Then goes through silicone valves to the Breathing side.

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
      @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter  2 дні тому

      Don't know if you call it flappers but it is a one-way mouth valve. I had it on for 10 minutes with no problems breathing.

      @@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter I'm referring to Silicone Valves that allow air to pass one way. I think the Neptune FFM uses them.

    Hey I seen the sign in the background. refer a friend and get a $50... so if I refer a bunch of people, I can get a free open water cert right? Lol.
    That mask is almost like my Chinese RDK 40 dive mask. Mines not a snorkel mask but a full fledged scuba mask. I love it so far.. ot cam as a mask only. You use the 2nd stage of your choice.. I went with a hot dive adjustable 2nd stage and added swivel fittings to the hose. I have not dove with it in any depth of water yet.. just a 3ft deep swimming pool. It reminds me of the ocean reef mask. Just cheaper and I can use the 2nd stage I like .. and I can change the 2nd stage if I find something better. I plan on doing a video one day if I can get back to a deeper dive spot with clear water and some friends. It's pretty popular in China for scuba training. I had a friend visit me and he was an instructor in Hong Kong or somewhere like that. I just wish the spider was a better design than it is on mine. I can't wait to get to some warm clear water to give it a shot.

      Hawaii has not banned full face snorkel masks (FFSMs) statewide, but several dive operations have. There were eight drownings involving these masks a couple of years ago due to CO2 buildup. Perhaps this new model alleviates that.

    • @joeporkka2047
      @joeporkka2047 3 дні тому +1

      @@pacificcoast101There is a lot of controversy about it. Just last month a couple from Seattle area died while using full face masks in Hawaii.
      Not only is there increased risk of CO2 buildup, its hard to clear your snorkel if water gets in - those things are strapped tight on your face making it difficult to remove especially if you are panicked.
      The design of this one where air is expelled from a different port (probably) means you cannot blow the snorkel to clear the water.
      FWIW, I have never used one of these masks and have never seen the toobas personally.

    one tube to breath in, other one to breath out. 🤣
    It looks great, to be honest much better then all the other fullface masks.with almost zero tube (because of the fact being so short).

      Scuba divers love our mask + snorkel setup but novices and those scared of the deep may find this a fun and comfortable alternative.
