great video!!! i had the 2017 RS and honestly i never cared about the RPMs at all! i’m willing to get this 2020 version in the next days! what a fantastic bike for the money!
You buying brand new or second hand?
Test rode this bike a week ago. Agree with the menu nav button. I kept pressing it to indicate. But after a while i got used to it. Also agree about the dash. The 2018-2019 model was much easier to read and see what revs you were doing. Was hoping there wouldve been a UI update by now.
Hasnt change my mind though, I am still going to buy one!
Have you put your order in then? What's the delivery date?
@Bikes of Rye Actually going to the dealer in an hours time to sort out a deal! Will hopefully have my bike in the next week or so. 😎
Great channel mate. I had a street triple 660 and now trying to start my own channel. Keep it up mate 🙏👌👌
Go for it!
Watch Dave Moss' video about lever reach, these levers have a really great adjustment range when you look at how he explains proper lever reach! All my levers were about 3/8" too close to the bar, following his direction made a big difference to the ridablity of the bike, and took just a bit of getting use to. The levers are also too high from the factory unless you're 5'3" and for most guys 5'8" to 6' should be tilted down a bit.
That power wheelie!! Just crazy!!
🔥🔥I agree, the toggle switch for the TFT menu is in a real shitty spot... As for the TFT display itself, the 2020 'Futuristic Display themes' are bonkers & a step backwards for Triumph🔥🔥
Yes it is. I accidentally honked couple of times in the beginning when I was wearing gloves.
Great video fantastic bike the TFT on the speed triple rs is a lot better stay safe looking forward to next one 🇬🇧👍🏻
Thanks 👍
@@BikesofRye I too have a 765 RS 2020. With regards to your complaint about the rev counter. Go to Style 4 and then push the mouse type stick to the right twice you will get a digital Rev counter in Large digits, for me this allows me to see the exact revs this style splits the screen , hope this helps.
The dash is my only concern and keeping me away from now. I still ride a lot of bikes without even a rev counter/meter so its no problem. I can drive on feeling but its indeed nice to have. Never had issues with the toggle switch or levers myself but i can imagine people making a mistake
Gotta say, all your vids are great and the added insight extremely helpful. Helped me with my decision to trade my 17 CBR1000RR for the 20 Street Triple R, ride safe 🤙🏾
Very nice and appreciate the feedback! I always find it interesting to know what people change from and to and you're not the only one I know to come down from a litre bike. Its a great all rounder the 765
That would be a huge power drop !! Why ?
@@paulbarnes6124 power for street riding and even track use is severely over prioritized. Don't get me wrong, its fun to go fast but thats all you can really do with a litre bike. Insurance is ungodly (300 a month with a clean record). The low down torque and midrange and weight is more fun on the triple and with the CBR i found turning down the power to enjoyable for corners. Its not lacking, im 5'7 185 and still hits highway speeds in a few seconds.
@@earlmiranda7310 thanks I bought a street triple r 3 months ago traded a sprint st 1050 nice having a light weight for traffic cheers
Nice vid mate, good to see thats all you've come up with after ownership 👍
Thanks yes really struggling to criticise the bike in general still love it to date
@@BikesofRye I'm thinking of getting one for the track. It's one of my favourite bikes I've ridden
I am planning on a track day this year actually think it would be more than capable
Not sure about splitting the good & the bad into two videos but I am definitely glad you covered both. But an 03 955i just slipped away from me but I am definitely thinking now that in many ways those gen 2 Hinckley Speed Triples of the early 2000s were and still are a street fighter sweet spot.
And I hate the TFT on a bike. I understand the cheaper triple came only with analog gauges. Sounds about right to me. You can and will drag me kicking and screaming into the 21st century of biking but I’m coming back from my last bike being a limited edition Norton Dominator a street legal Domiracer equivalent with 80 BHP in 1961. So I still want some noticeable grunt.
And no, not a finicky but beautiful Ducati or Aprilia, no Super Dukes, Lowrider S or Pan America. No nice people on a Honda Fireblade. No Gixxer Busa power posers.
I like where the 03 Speed Twin 955i fits in all this. And probably a few more before and after.
Keep the TFT, the suspension by wire, and any miscellaneous addins such as fake carbs. If I wanted electronic wizardry I’d want a Plaid. But I don’t want my two wheeler to have the complexity of an F-15. Maybe then recently made 225 kg bikes could get back to their 20th century weights of around 190-200 kg. Yeah I know E5 and all that but not my problem here in the colonies lol.
I feel like Triumph product design have lost their compass a bit. Not enough to cease to be real Triumph but enough to make me want something like an 03 instead of a 2022.
So I’m either officially senile or I have done my homework and now I have to start digging. Fortunately this time $ is secondary.
But if you know a good 03 955i that needs a good home, I’m your huckleberry.
Love the sound of your Bike. I thought I would try a SC Project homologated slip-on... but I had so much aggravation with there web-site I gave up with them... I purchased else where. I currently own a 2014 Striple 675R....Great bikes Street Triples....whatever generation..... greeting from España
Yes definitely an own goal with the TFT, my 2018rs much clearer, however as you have stated they are all awesome bikes. Cheers L.O.R.
L.O.R - I like it
I agree 100% about the brake lever reach problem. It was the first thing I noticed after buying my bike.
If somebody has small hands and wants to fix the brake lever problem, I figured out a way to do it. Takes less than 10 minutes and is free, just let me know.
Please tell
@@Scott-xd1cu Hi Scott. Look for a little "external e-clip" (I think that's the name in English) in the lever adjuster screw.
This e-clip prevents the adjuster screw from turning beyond a certain point, wich is what you want.
I simply removed this e-clip and then was able to turn the adjuster to a point where I was happy with the brake lever position.
You can relax about the adjuster screw, it will not turn and it will not fall from the master cylinder.
My brake adjuster screw and lever did not change it's position at all.
Use a headlamp and a small screwdriver to remove the e-clip, and be careful not to lose it.
@atostesjr thank you for your reply I will give it a go
Hi Ryan this is the 3rd vid I've watched from you great content I was even going to subscribe to your channel then I saw the manbob!!😂🤣😂 keep up the good work pal 😉
Thanks for the feedback - I would wear my hair down but then maybe that would get you too excited
@@BikesofRye I loved the curls but love the striple more 😁
To see better the level in which you are driving (2000, 10000 rm for ex.) you can choose the opportunity which is given in the main menu. The RM will appear in the main screen and are easely readable
The graphics on the new Speed Triple 1160 (1200) TFT look so much better than the 2nd gen 765 Striple and Tiger 900 so hopefully Triumph will use these on the next update. I much prefer the TFT styles on my 2018 765 RS. Your bike looks and sounds great with that SC Project full exhaust system.
I would imagine on the 2023 Street Triple. (assuming that's the facelift) It would use the latest Speed triples display... also thanks yeah love the exhaust uts addictive 😀
@@BikesofRye It didn't! Still the drainage ditch tacho!!!
@Brian Williams Yes. Definition of over designed. Should have kept it simple. Might get the R. Bit ugly but easy to read
I had the Speed Triple RS 2018 which had the same hand controls, but I never had an issue with the placement of the toggle switch. The build quality though wasn't very good, almost as soon as I bought it it sometimes got stuck in any direction and had to be centered manually to stop the menus from scrolling endlessly. That being said, the bike that I bought was a demo bike so people probably hadn't been very gentle with it in their test rides :)
Did you change your bike? What you riding now?
@@BikesofRye Kind of... I hit a deer and the bike got wrecked. But about a week ago I placed an order on the new 2021 Speed Triple RS and now I'm just waiting for this winter to be over so that I can ride again :)
@@TzeiEm Very nice I am planning on getting a test ride on one as it may very well be an upgrade for me
Thanks for all your videos! Great content. Quick questions: which windscreen are you using? Does it help at high speed? For me, I start to really struggle with buffeting at above 130kph (without any windscreen). I'm also considering the Powerbronze windscreen. Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!
Thank you for the feedback - the windscreen is an official Triumph accessory
@@BikesofRye Thanks! Has it helped reduce high speed buffeting?
@@VincentTL I wouldn't imagine it to make much difference. The power bronze would be better. I haven't ridden the bike without one fitted so I couldn't compare sorry
Yes I have a 2020 RS model and agree that the TFT screen is a disgrace to the Triumph Engineering department.
I also agree that the toggle control is no good either.
Apart from these items I am happy with my bike.
It is quite hard to find faults to be fair glad you agree though!
If those were the only things you could come up with it must be a pretty good motorcycle!
its a very good motorcycle
I bought a street triple r yesterday. Have done 100 miles, and love it. Really like the combination of an analogue rev counter and digital speedo. Don;t really see the point of the rs, apart from the ohlins.
RS is built for those wanting to take their bike on track ultimately
I have the 2019 and the TFT is spot on. No idea why they change it
I think Triumph should have kept the original and enhanced it slightly
You know? I agree with your analysis for the display and, in general, for most of the switches at the bar. The Warning is also very difficult to actuate. Clacson is small.
Have you had a chance to ride the Speed Triple 1050 and if so how does your tuned Street Triple compare to it? I've had two Speed Triples over the years but always liked the idea of the lightweight Street Triple
I have had a brief ride on one yes and honestly I couldn't tell much difference in the power. I am looking forward to seeing the new Speed Triple next year
Idk if it was tyres or suspensions but the one I tried was like riding a piece of wood. No feeling when going "slow" and needed a bit too much strength to lean. The R is way way better for me.
The rs is meant for the track so it's understandable tho
My thoughts after 500 miles on mine. Agree with you on the dash. All the options are very similar and not that clear. I like the Ducati TFT with a traditional tacho which I think Triumph should go back to. The DRL switch is crap and wobbly on mine and what’s the point of it? And the joystick switch - nobody loves this right? They should get a BMW in the factory and see how the dash and switchgear should be done.
How are you finding the bike as a whole package? I guess you haven't really properly ridden it yet until you have had the running in service
You're so right, nothing is perfect, apart from Salma Hayek and my ex wife's second husband.
I'm your ex wife's second husband
@@BikesofRye You need to put her on a diet then mate, unless you love the plumpers !
@@michaelarchangel1163 I am my wife’s second and she is my fourth. And we are both far from perfect but we are both committed to preserving what we have had from day one.
If you know the Lindsay Anderson film O Lucky Man, I am the lucky man. A quarter century on and she’s still a willowy radiant blonde.
She’s gun shy about two wheels but is smart enough to understand why I need another bike. I would rather wear out than rust.
Once again someone please sell me a 955i.
The more I see newer “better” bikes the more I think Hinckley is the spiritual successor to Bert Hopwood.
Totally agree with you on the TFT..I have the 2017 RS and think they definitely went the wrong way with it on the 2020. I actually think it’d put me off buying one over mine at the moment 👍
I am not sure the 2020 is so much of an upgrade over the 2017 though I would say the down blipper is addictive!
you can change the theme bro :dd
I have a 2018. 765 rs. Display is no problem. The lower fairing I removed. I like the naked look so thats easier to clean and oil changes are easier and faster. As for the control switch. I got 32k miles on mine. Never had a problem with controls. Only thing I have a issue with is midrange. I run a 49T rear sprocket. I still want quicker. But thats me. And with that 49T I lose top end to 137mph is my top speed. But I'm usually only going 70-95mph.
how do you find the sprocket change when you are cruising in 6th gear?
@@BikesofRye it runs 6.5k at 80mph. My cruise speed in the United States. ;)
Hi mate, cool videos like the channel. Just a quick question about the track abs. Does it let you have any fun and do little skids? Or is it a complete no no? Cheers
Thanks for the feedback appreciate that. ABS cannot be totally deactivated. It does allow for minor play on rear. The bike is so capable that you are unlikely to feel the abs kicking in I will be honest. I actually find the TC annoying as it acts as anti-wheelie too and it can either be too aggressive, work OK or get confused and not work (sports mode)
@@BikesofRye Brilliant, really helpful thank you. I'm stuck between this and a Duke 890r. Just worried the RS might be a bit too "grown up" but if you can have a little bit of fun with the rear brake that's good news 👍🏻 cheers
Best test ride both when we are out of lockdown - I plan on having a go on the Duke so I can to compare the two
Ever ridden one of the MV Agusta 800cc triple bikes?
Did you try to update the TFT’s software? They “solved” the problem of the absence of a mark on the revolution marker
Yes I had the software update which is hard to spot the difference....
@@minicopilot1 yes they did
Nice video. I do own the same bike and overall i think it's fire ! Going from an MT-07 to this was pretty insane.
For me the major problem remains the TFT dash indeed, the rpms are hard to read.
I do have a small annoying thing with mine, being that the brakes squeak (front and back). Do you happen to have the same problem ? My bike is brand new, maybe it will go with time ?
I mentioned the brakes squealing in a previous video and yes I don't have the problem any more I believe if you are hard on the brakes from time to time it sorts them out
almost all brembo have squeaky brakes.
The STR R was better for me as I don't so tracks but a big reason I preferes it over the RS is the LCD/Tach combo display. LCD is crystal clear and I like having a traditional tach. I'm not a fan of TFTs on bikes. On some bike, it looks like a large iPhone strapped to the dashboard, especially on naked bikes. Just like I hate cars that have "tablets" sitting on dashboards.
3:40 if you ever get bored and feel like clarifying what you meant with a drawing as I’m not quite sure what you mean by a thick piece of plastic. You want the top to be covered so you can’t see the ground through it or?
You caught me when I am bored. As for the drawing well you will just have to use your imagination
Great video, keep up the great content!
As the owner of an 18' Striple RS I can see why 20' owners are miffed about the TFT display. This is also the first time I've heard about someone mentioning about the brake lever reach. I have mine adjusted all the way in and can manage getting my middle finger on the lever while manipulating the throttle. If I could move 5mm in it would be perfect.
Still love my Striple. Did a 260 mile round trip today with some friends to go eat at a great seafood place on the Gulf of Mexico. First time I've done a little distance on it. The bike didn't disappoint. What a joy to ride!
Cheers from the U.S. ! Ride safe Sir.
Thanks for the feedback - the bike is superb and such a great all rounder you can pretty much just ride it all day long
How was comfort ?
@@paulbarnes6124 Very comfortable. I'm use to naked bikes and wind doesn't bother me. The seat is much like you would find on a sport bike. Firm yet easy on the bum. I would have no issues throwing some soft bags on it and chew up a 500-800 mile weekend. The suspension is not harsh but you can tell it is way to the sporty side.
I've ridden mine from Vegas to Memphis to Austin back to Vegas sept 6- 19th. 16 days 5482 miles. No problem. Except the dang 2" grasshoppers flying up hitting me every second in Oklahoma. I have 32k miles on my 2018.
Hi, I am also a R6 rider and looking for something a bit more comfortable without compromising on the smooth engine character and a little less extreme sporty dynamics. Have sights on this, the MT09(need to checkout the new one) and CBR650R for quiet some time now. Being a previous R6 owner yourself how would you compare it to Street Triple??
The street is more capable on the road. Also being a triple the engine is very very smooth. It's more comfortable, better suspension and brakes.
The R6 shines when you're going fast and does look great
I would take the street without hesitation
@@BikesofRye thanks a lot for the clarification 👍🏻
Coming from a 600rr to my 2020 Street triple and looking at similar bikes you are. The Street is by far the better decision hands down
Its not amazing but if you cycle through the options up or down with the toggle switch you can see exactly what revs its doing on the top right hand side rather than rely on the dash.... tho it does get rid of fuel usage or mileage and what not
I have used that option before just looks naff though doesn't it
Does it come with a steering damper?
No steering damper
With all your mentioned drawbacks. At least 2 of those can be avoided by going for the R version over the RS. No worry about themes or joysticks for changing modes. After 8k km on this bike I can say: the anolog/LCD dash setup is simple yet brilliant. Much better than 2021/2 RS dash. It gives all the info you need in a blink of an eye.
Power wise you will not notice any difference in normal riding and when you need the upgraded brakes outside of a race track you are doing something very wrong. The R provides adjustable suspension so you can tune it as you like.
The only functions you may miss out on as daily rider:
Auto canceling turn signals (not available on the R) and some functions with headlights.
And the starter button looks and feels a bit nicer.
Thought it was not worth the extra 2-3k Eur difference. As I mainly ride in normal traffic. Never reached limits on my R, so why would I get myself an RS?
Do not forget that the R gets Pirelli Rosso 3 tires which can still be used in normal road conditions. The supercorsas on the RS are another matter. Maybe super in the dry but useless in the wet?
And to be totally clear: I rode the RS as a test before I actually decided to buy my Streety R. Had no problems with the RS at all, even as beginner rider, but could not see the price premium over the R. So went for the R with some extras. And no regrets! The R offers all you need in normal road conditions.
But if you are young and love the race tracks, and want to go for max performance there, by all means, go for the RS.
There is a 2022 RS for sale near me. Did they correct/update these issues or change anything else? Does this bike force you to ride like a ticket-collecting hooligan? Thinking that a Street Twin might be more my style.
I'd say it doesn't encourage you to speed. You have to look for it but when you do it's stupidly capable
I removed that exhaust air diffuser thing lol get more air too the oil pan for cooling I think 🤔
You removed the belly pan?
No just the v shaped plastic cover
I think you have to be in track mode for the tachometer to look like anything useful.
Track mode doesn't change the appearance... but maybe thats a good idea I would quite like a racer look in that mode
@@BikesofRye
I heard the tachometer was more prominent in track mode, but maybe that's on the 2017-2019 models.
You'd think it would be easy enough for them to make dozens of skins you could have installed at a dealer.
I guess I'm just old fashioned, but nothing will ever do it for me quite like a plain black on white mechanical clock.
The speed has one way better setting for reading rpm’s. And what’s with google maps support for navigation ? You would expect that in 2020 on a bike in this price range......I am considering buying one but unfortunately there only a hand full of dealers here in the Netherlands and they all have a stiff upper lip and they treat you like a pauper here. Like you almost need to beg to buy one.
Have you test ridden the bike? I am sure if you push for a discount you would likely get one given the current climate. Check out one of my other videos on how much my bike cost to give you an idea
Just bought and have emailed triumph asked (sarcastically) for a firmware downgrade back the old format of tachometer. No surprise on their reply but like most here we need to all complain in hope they do something. I’m trying to get first 300 miles done which limits me to 4000rpm and that display (even with the changing colour option which btw is also hard to see) is useless. I started getting burning type smells which may be related to going over the 4000 limit 🤷🏻♂️ changed to actual numbers which is easier to read but cmon triumph sort this out it’s a major step backward ! I’m missing my old 675 panel with yellow face and blue shift lights !! I loved that old school layout 😀
The display on mine (2017 Striple 765 R) has completely different layouts... ah! You just said that! :-)
The previous layout arguably nicer
What windscreen is that?
The flyscreen is a standard Triumph accessory
Clicked for the bike, subscribed for the salad fingers reference

You should have gone for the R 2020 all you showed arent R issues.

Yeah! What's the deal with the break lever? Do you need to have basketball player's hands to be able to set it up properly? It is one of the few things that bugs me too on mine!
- I took the lever apart and ground down the small rounded adjustable brake nub. Easy fix. Just be careful you don't bend or lose the tiny e-clip.
- I rotated the bars up, and the screen toggle is even worse. Problem is you can't rotate the L&R control modules. There must be a pin/hole locating it :((
- Getting used to the screen. I prefer the rev digits instead of the terrible graphics. Problem is they have left the "0" at the front.. ie: 06500 rpm. Why couldn't they have that first space blank when 9990 rpm or below , and just show the "1" when it hits 10000 rpm. It would be so much clearer to grab a 1/10 of a second info glance.
Subbed 👍
Just checked out your channel Kate I see you have or had the 2019 Street RS - oh and also subbed back
@@BikesofRye I do! Love the thing! And thanks man, appreciate it 😊
Agree the rev counter is rubbish. almost impossible to read when pushing on. I have the 2020 R. Old style rev counter very easy to read.
Take it back to Triumph, they'll update that TFT so the rev counter shows up much better.
I have had a software update to improve the rev counter
There is an official TFT update ? These small TFT fonts are one of my only gripes concerning this awesome bike !
@@BikesofRye I just bought one of these. Picking it up in 2 days. My biggest issue on test was RPM. Display is terrible for that! How do you get the firmware update for TFT?
@@corngrohlio Are you buying it from a dealership? Should be done automatically... if not you can contact your dealership enquire about it. It is believed the update also prevents the bike from stalling randomly
That belly pan on the RS looks chintzy anyways. Looks like something you’d see on some Honda beginner bike.
Actually it sort of does you're right
Damn does this bike really just do power wheelies when you rev it out in second like that? Fucking cool
Does your bike still cutting off ??
Hasn't happened to me in some time now I have a feeling the software update I had done cured the problem only I wasn't told at the time that is what the software update was for

I love the bike... but it isn't perfect
@@BikesofRye Right, but that's not the same as saying, "I don't like the bike and here are the reasons why," which is what your title says. "Things I don't like about it" is not the same as "reasons I don't like it." But you've got to get the clicks somehow, I guess. Whatever.
Title of your review is misleading(Why I don’t like the street triple) When you say you think it’s a fantastic motorcycle.Should be,(things I don’t like about.....) .Thinking about getting one of these and your headline sounded like a thumbs down for it.Turns out good bike and good review.
Thanks for the feedback - unfortunately the world of youtube requires me to be somewhat creative with titles if I want people to view my content
Bruh........brake lever issue........I think it's completely personal and in general it's not a problem at all........with riding gloves on that position seems to be really close......why would someone need it that close......I prefer it to be at a fair distance away tbh......most often everyone uses two finger braking......it gives a bit more flexibility........
I doubt anyone would adjust the brake lever any further away from the throttle than when you have it set as close to the throttle as possible
@@BikesofRye actually I don't mean all the way up....... atleast the way u set the lever.....it seems really close for me.........and most of the time I use 2 finger braking.......and it's more flexible and u can extend way more while most part of the hand on throttle........the way u brake which is demonstrated here is mostly done during panic or sudden braking......which is pretty rare.......

Rusty ssspoooons .....
I’m not buying one based purely on principle that the TFT style is trash and Triumph needs to add all styles (including the current trash one) from 2017-2021 into the 2022 RS.
The 2022 RS ?
@@BikesofRye meaning I will buy the 2022 model when it comes out, assuming Triumph will combine all styles or revert back to the original, or the Speed Triple styles.
Ah thought you knew something I didn't then - I am not sure the street will be face lifted for 2022? Probably 2023
@@BikesofRye I’m just assuming Triumph will address it as the outrage is pretty obvious if they are reading UA-cam comments and listening to their dealers that we constantly ask “will there be a software update for 1st gen TFT styles.
The bang for their buck is huge. The first gen styles already exist. Update some fonts or change a color here or there and upload the 1st gen TFT to the 22 models. Or combine them all which they should have. The 20-21 styles should have been an additional theme within the 1st gen software.
Plus Triumph has already made almost every bike they could have made the past few years so it would behoove them to fine tune the details instead of focusing on what all new model to come up with.
Just got my LAMS licence (A2) and like the look of a new triple 660 but think I’ll wait until I’m on unrestricted to go the rs to purchase new. Hopefully all the drawbacks on this bike are sorted in 2 years.
Good observations, no one likes that dash..like you said, good on paper…but clearly designed by someone who has never ridden a motorcycle.
