      I am glad you enjoy the videos. I always enjoy seeing what comes with new updates, though I wish it had been more substantial.

    I can't think of any camera from any brand that has had the limit when released, then have it removed later. I believe it's because whatever the way it was registered was, it gets stuck with as that model.

    Canon can not get rid of the 29m59s limit in the R5/R6. It exists, because the camera was launched before there used to be different tax brackets for stills and video cameras in Europe and other places and the R5 and R6 were introduced in the lower tax bracket. These tax laws have been removed, hence the R3 and onwards don't have the 30m limit. But because some R5/R6 have been sold before these laws were abolished, Canon would have to either pay up for some R5/R6 and pay the difference (complicated). The limit will be gone with the Mk2 of those cams, but is not going to be removed ever from the R5/R6.

      Good info, but I do have choice words for lawmakers. All they do is block progress.

      It's more on Canon here. Cameras sold subsequently are not subject to the additional taxes, but they can't (or do not want to deal with) push a firmware update out to a subset of R5 and R6. So nobody gets it until the next model is out.

      Panasonics approach throughout GH4 production was, that they just reclassified the GH4 as video camera and ate the tax difference. Hence that recording limit is gone from Panasonic cams for a very long time.

    Got one of these pretty cheap second hand after the R5C came out. Suffice to say Pretty happy with this update.

    Did firmware fix overheat for R6 even little bit?

    • @CitadelStreaming
      @CitadelStreaming  2 роки тому

      I have seen nothing to indicate that there have been any thermal changes for the R6. While I haven't tested to see if it has additional recording time before a thermal shutdown, the option that the R5 has to increase the thermal shutdown temperature isn't present on the R6.

    How many watts is your USB power adapter? At this point, I forget the exact minimum wattage you need to fully power the R5, but I have a 65watt adapter and it powers the cam 100%. No need for that stupid fake battery crap.

      It looks like my USB charger maxes out at 15 watts, which sounds like a good reason it can't keep up with the power consumption of the camera.

      @@CitadelStreaming A quick search says, "18W PD will charge the batteries, 45W PD will power the camera." So you need at least 45W with power delivery to fully power the cam. It's one of my favorite features of the camera when I use it. I power it through USB so I never have to worry about battery life. with my 5D IV, I hated running low on battery and having to change batteries.

      Cool, thanks for the info! It appears that I will be upgrading my USB charger sometime in the near future.

    2 years hopelessly waiting for ridiculously overheating problem , and yet no sign to get rid of stupid 29:59 minutes limitation.
    We don’t even know if they gonna dump us with this limitation or not. Since the mark 2 is coming. Damn silly play by Canon.

    • @CitadelStreaming
      @CitadelStreaming  2 роки тому

      I really hope that they don't wind up leaving us with the limit. It seems really dumb to do, especially when significantly cheaper cameras from Canon are being launched with an extended limit, or none at all.

      The 30 minute limit is down to a tax law, that existed at the time of the launch of the R5 and R6. It has been abolished since, but Canon can not remove the limit without paying up for every camera sold before it was.
