I grew up sailing in that area with my dad. In later life a passed through the canal many times in my Contessa. Sadly not a 32 but a 26. Now in my seventies and several boats later I still have fonder memories of my little Contessa that any other boat I have owned. I now mosetly day sail and am considering down sizing to another 26 to potter the coast of Argyllshire.
Thanks for sharing John and Elizabeth. That knot for throwing is very interesting and good to know. Every episode has a nice little lesson built in, much appreciated.
The canal was definitely something to be savoured. Interestingly enough, we were through the canal, a bit ahead of where we thought we would be, and therefore I think we’re going to have a bit of a change of plan.
Hi John- is that the Raymarine element S 7” plotter you have mounted centrally on the instrument coaming there? I was wondering if this would fit myself!
I think it is called an Axiom 7 in the bumph I have, yes. Putting in that position was a good decision. Wasn’t going to have one originally (was going down the IPad route) but I am glad we went this way.
Your doing the right thing with line through the hook and back...I've watched the Crinan idea with a loop round the hook....Terrible idea! ...If the lock fails and empty's, Your boat can be left hanging..(As a Veteran of the Caladonian Canal)..I can assure you it not only happens..But it will Happen!

Sounds like a lovely plan

Thanks very much for this. Every day should be a school day :-)
Crinan is the sort of place just to tie up in and chill for a couple of days. The bothy to let would make a lovelly ice cream parlour.
Completely agree, both with relaxing in the canal and the ice cream parlour
Super video. I have transeted the Crinan 15 times, and no one ever mentioned where to get fuel!
Thank you, we had a lovely transit. Maybe wish we had gone a bit slower (ie visited Lochgilphead etc)
One of the best episodes so far, I hope to transit later this year.
Thank you very much, can’t stress enough, the importance of reading the skippers guide and taking full advantage of the license to be in the canal
Echoes of a trip on the Caledonian many years ago, loved it. Great episode, looks like a fantastic part of the world.....where next?
