So cool how Darrion and Bobby called out two legend's of Sportsman Racing with Gary Wisecarver and Herbie Null. Two unique individuals who've helped people in all levels of Sportsman Racing. From a personal perspective as a rabid fan of the NHRA, the only thing I watch or follow is NHRA Stock and Super Stock. The excess in the Pro classes makes me ill. I know there is some of that in the Stock and Super Stock classes but it still comes down to the the driver in those classes and the legacy of those classes goes back to the early 60's. Keep Sportsman Racing alive in the NHRA.
Great to see the young guns so eager to do this and keep the sport moving forward. It's true about the Winston decals and those times. I used to race at Atlanta Dragway back in the '80's and they were the sponsor then.
Cant wait to see this thing with the 286 cu. in. Buick head small block next year. That combo was THE killer back in the 80's heydey of modified. It was my favorite class of all time! I used to live within walking distance of the legendary Shuffletown drag strip outside Charlotte N.C. Every sunday afternoon was spent watching the local pros run. I saw the beginning of pro mod there with the likes of Charles Carpenter, Ed Hoover, Thomas Jackson and dozens more. Also, another legendary modified stalwart is on your rear tag and I bet he is the engine wizard who is building that nasty small block for next year....one Mr. Gene Fulton! Last I want to say my 2 favorite modified cars from back in the day were your buddy John Bowman and a cool guy named Strawberry Dixon. Good luck young man and thanks for your passion for these type of cars!
Watching this all I could think of was about Warren Johnson and before him Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins. If I was running this combination Warren or Kurt Johnson would be someone I would have on speed dial. By all means this is not a slap in the face to the many modified production guys who ran this kind of combination back in the 80's. Great car but I just cringe at the launch knowing that each pass is so hard on the car. All the best in the future Darrion. You are living the dream from 1982.
Good kid. From a old Stick guy. Thank for putting a smile on my Face. Keep it up 😁
It's good to see a young racer who pays homage to the NHRA Modified Eliminator cars. Definitely, miss that class.

'This car is the real me".
We all know this well!
Another awesome video from Bobby F!
Great interview...smart young man...
Looks like an old Bowman Car or a Mike Crutchfield car
My Dad Gene Fryer used to dump the clutch with those guys!!
I feel honored that you said it looks like an old Bowman car. Jon Bowman is a really good friend of mine and is a major inspiration to my racing!
I live close to Piedmont Dragway and have never went there i has always been known as a black track. maybe i need to go check it out.
Why would that matter? Get out there and race, life is short.
No thanks, stay away.
@@driverinterviews Thanks for calling him out on his unnecessary comment about Piedmont Dragway. Again, why would it matter?
