It's the pain the Sully is going through from being hurt by some one you love and when you get hurt you have all kind of pain but it does heal over time this song hit home for me ❤❤❤

When you said "the only thing you are guilty of is letting her have your heart", that's something some people need to hear. Thank you for that. I myself did not feel Careless Whisper was a cheating song either, but then again, I haven't put a ton of thought into it. This song though, just, holy shit... It isn't a song someone who has been through this situation simply listens to, this is a song that is felt, deeply..... Best wishes to you, Sully, and anyone else who has been, is, or will be in a similar situation as this song portrays.
Ya, this song was real rough. I heard he wrote this song after going through this with his wife. Don't know if that is true or not. Best friend had to walk away from this song cuz when it dropped, he was going through this exact situation. He didn't even download it and he's a HUGE Godsmack fan. We as men aren't supposed to have emotion as men aren't supposed to get angry, or hurt. Most women today speak of toxic masculinity and mistreat we men. I went through the exact same thing. I was cheated on by my ex-wife of 20 years. I was the one who took the loss. I lost my boy's, & my family. I was expected to just suck it up, as I did and came out the other side both battered and bruised. I became jaded and angry. That was over a decade ago, and still to this day, not much in the way that I'd changed because I was too in love with a woman to see what she was doing. That was on me and vowed to never allow that again.

This is a real experience that Sully had not too many years ago during the recording of Lighting Up The Sky album. He took months off from recording and wrote this song. Even though he wrote the song he had trouble recording this song in the studio without crying. Very powerful song.
