    How this band are not still not be recognised as the best band ever to come out of Scotland is a mystery to me, they were fantastic live, and very underrated.

      every year there is an Alex Harvey Day in fact today Feb 4 we are meeting at the tree planted for Alex at the Glasgow Peoples palace and then off to see The Sensational Alex Harvey Experience play everyone welcome every year.. .

    What a fantastic band. Harvey's undeniable talent as a front man notwithstanding, Zal Cleminson is a figure that is hard to ignore.
    His hooks were cool, and his stage presence is downright magnetic.

      I've still got my original vinyl album "NEXT"! he had a flat in 1978/9. Next door to the Taxi office I was manager of. Nice Man TOO!

    My favourite band from my teenage years in the 70's and beyond.
    Definitely underrated, possibly due to Harvey's uniqueness and their lack of commercial exposure.
    The Old Grey Whistle Test set 'Give my Compliments to the Chef' and 'Next' are out of this world.

      He played in a club I was working in, unbelievable, very small club, he enjoyed the free bottle of Whisky we gave him, all of it! Brilliant show😅👍

    First rate live band, saw them many times. At Portsmouth Guildhall, all seater, a young girl was quietly in front of the stage, security tried to get her to sit in her seat. Alex intervened saying " if she goes, I go". They let her stay .

    I bought an antique collection of albums and discovered Alex Harvey without an album jacket. It was a collection of his best songs and i cant stop playing them. His band r great musicians and he is unique. After hearing Gang Bang i think i know where Zevon got his Werewolves of London.

One of the best i have attended, and i have seen some incredible bands over the last 36 years since my first gig (Monsters Of Rock festival at Donington '83)!! Just hoping he and the band come back soon. RIP Ted and Alex... \m/

      Me too & that includes Bowie, Zeppelin & Purple. Saw them 4 times in 70's & they never disappointed. Great, great band. 2 dead now, Alex & Ted.

    Fantastic stuff!! Never has one man looked so stoned on national TV before or since Alex Harvey in the 2nd performance. Great anti-corruption record with a delightful sense of humour we fail to see exhibited on television today.

    Legend he was, remember seeing the band in Mountain Ash in the early 80s, they had to drag Alex out of the pub to perform at the gig, he was absolutely smashed, but what a gig, great memories.

    I've fallen in love with this band, thanks to the radio talk show host Nick Abbot. He said it was his first gigs and one of the best gigs he ever went to, in edinburgh in 1976. He said a siren sounded, a spotlight shined on a brick wall and Alex Harvey kicked through it dressed as Hitler 😅

    Such a killer song! I love that it’s Scot with an evil gleam in his eye singing it about it. There’s a deep in-joke there somewhere. It’s just a little sad to see the fire go out in his eyes between the two different live versions though. I know that feeling, brother. R.I.P.

      I did watch this show religiously every week with my parents. I can hear my Dad saying who's the berk in the make up? Tony Blackburns political commentary trying to make a witty remark and failing this time miserably! Thank fuck for Harry Enfield doing Smashy and Nicey.

    Saw them live only months befroe this was released - second gig attended and just turned 13. Blew my mind.
    On alighter note, could the second clip with the straw hat be the winner of the most genuinely deranged/fucked up/dangerous looking frontman appearance of all time on TOTP? He's got that real slit-eyed drunk Glasgow stare that I saw many times in the 70's - like you could be about to get a glass in the face. And he's far too pissed to be acting!
    God how I miss the old raw characters of rock n' roll (and film.)

    Harvey is one of the finest front men that's ever lived, his presence and snarling delivery is utterly magnificent
    Tom Jones Delilah was a song of infidelity, Harvey's version was cold blooded murder

    Yes, there was a time when groups such as SAHB appeared on primetime "pop" chart shows on tv. I recall being a bit freaked by Zal...Alex was dark, brooding and as sexy as hell. Taken too soon.

    they were a great live band and very tight unlike say the Faces. By far the best pre punk sort of punk band. Meaningless term. They were just unique.

      Know exactly what you mean, pre punk, both SAHB and the Feelgoods had a sort of Fuck You menace about their attitude, whilst surrounded by a musical landscape of self congratulatory, masturbating musos playing too many notes.
