One of my favorite details is that despite Star Sapphire having a grudge against Green Lantern, her plan doesn't actually involve him dying. It shows that Carol on some level still cares about Hal.

I figured that she just wanted him to be miserable for the rest of his life. Kind of like how Reverse Flash wants Barry to be miserable, but Sapphire is not nearly as petty as Thawne.
To be fair they did change Batman’s plans since the originals would only incapacitated them not kill them.

In the comics they get married and have kids at the end of their stories.

Comic nerd here: For the record, yes, Bane has always known Batman’s identity. He broke his back during a storyline called Knightfall, basically the first Arkham game.
Star Saphire is Carol Ferris, Green Lantern’s main love interest. She’s possessed by the Saphire Lantern (basically the green lantern only for love instead of will power). She was played by Blake Lively in the Ryan Reynolds “Green Lantern” movie (which is how they met)

Traditionally Flash being so fast means he takes on so many responsibilities that he's actually often late to things.
It's also meant to be ironic that the man with superhuman speed is late, Barry was always late before gaining powers and kept it up as a way to throw people off. He even suggested Wally do the same.
@@Raged_Consumer I think it also has to do with the original point made, sure he probably leans into it, but Barry Allans personality itself, likely made him take on a low of responsibility, even before he was The Flash. Like trying to help everyone at once and being late to everything because of it.
In the comics this movie was based on Plastic Man was actually a big part of the story. And even when Batman's contengincey for him was made to be lethal, it could not kill him. Plas is unironically one of the strongest characters in DC and can go toe to toe with Superman if he so chooses to. Batman's afraid of what would happen if he turned evil because there's no sure fire way to stop Plastic Man.

Unfortunately DC is set on including Cyborg in the league when all of his connections are in the titans. At least MM wasn't written out this time.
Honestly this is why Plas being infected during DCeased was fucking terrifying.
Batman knew Plas could survive the contingency, he just wasn't sure what kind of effect it would have on his mental state.
And there are ways of stopping him which they contingency proves, he could build a prison that's constantly freezing him, have superman lock him in the phantom zone, etc.
He's not unbeatable just underestimated, hence Batmans comment of they're lucky he's on their side, it also applies to Superman and Flash but it doesn't need to be said for them

As to the second, while he's very underrated and super hard to completely kill, he's not beating Superman: he could literally rip him to pieces, before or after freeze breath-ing him.

Bane broke Batman's back in the comics and that's what he was referring to. The Dark Knight movies did a completely different adaptation of it. The circumstances are nothing alike.
I mean its simplified and it changed HOW it happened but Taking over the cite, learning his identity, breaking his back. that's pretty much it without the Azrael stuff
There is a whole video on Bruce explaining each plan out in detail for every member of the League. I watched it and I was not surprised that he included himself in those plans. Bruce did have a point though. The injustice universe proves it.
Maybe, but on the flip side, Batman Who Laughs proves the danger of him or anyone else holding onto those plans unilaterally. Also, his response to Superman's question didn't make much sense if his plans could take the League out.

You guys really need to watch that one. It's based on a single issue of a Superman run, and it's entirely fantastic.
EDIT: Michael Rosenbaum played Lex Luthor in Smallville, and also voiced The Flash in the Justice League/Unlimited animated series. For me, he's to The Flash what Kevin Conroy is to Batman or Mark Hamill to the Joker.
That is a great examination of Supermans character.

Star Sapphire is Hal Jordan's ex girlfriend, Carol Ferris, who basically gained control of the Star Sapphire gem, which gives her powers similar to a Lantern. Also, the Hall of Doom comes from the old comics
Okay let me give you details on the villains.
Star Sapphire - no she not Starfire's sister, she's a green lantern villain/anti-hero.
Metallo (the robot dude) - He's a superman villain
Bane (luchador guy) - Batman villain and is most famous for breaking Batmans back.
Cheetah - Wonder woman villain
Ma'alefa'ak (green alien dude) - Martian Manhunter villain
Then lastly Vandal Savage whose a Justice League villain basically he was a caveman that was expose to some radiation from a meteorite but he gain immortality and super intelligent and been living for thousands of years trying to either take over the world or reshape it to his image. Think of him as a evil version of the Immortal from Invincible.
It was neither. In this interpretation at least it was a meteorite that landed near his cave. The radiation from said meteorite not only made him immortal but also incredibly intelligent

Fun fact, in the storyline this movie was based on, Tower of Babel, Batman's contingency plan for Green Lantern is to blind him, because the Green Lantern at that time was Kyle Rayner, who was a comic book artist whose skill as a Lantern came from his limitless imagination and skill in visual mediums.

Martians also don’t have a physical weakness to fire, in. The past they used it to breed at a much faster rate but the guardians of the universe got scared of them given how OP they are and somehow changed their brain into thinking they had this deathly fear of it.

Even in humans, mental and emotional stress and/or trauma can significantly impact your physical health, imagine how much worse that is for a species like martians where their minds and bodies are so much more closely connected.
Ok, now this is some top quality DC animated content. My only real complaint is the ending, which trades out the nuanced debate from the comics for a moment where Batman walks out like a badass.
Blame that on people not taking the message from Tower of Babel: A team needs trust in order to work. Instead, all several people got was "Batman can beat anyone with prep time "

Nathan Fillion is my favourite VA for Hal Jordan's Green Lantern. That scene in the mine when he thinks he let that innocent woman die gets me every time because of how much emotion he puts into it
There's a comic where Batman's plans are used again, and you see Green Arrow flipping through them, then going "...wait...there isn't one for me? Oh, screw you, Bats!"
If I’m remembering correctly in DCeased Damian told Ollie Batman had no plan for him. Later while fighting Zombie aquaman he said something along the lines of “I am a threat, FUCK YOU BATMAN!” After defeating zombie aquaman solo. Not sure if it is the same comic you are talking about but it is very funny.
16:00 That depends on the comic. Lantern Rings can usually: create light constructs, manipulate technology, have an onboard AI that does a lot of stuff, teleport/instant transition/go FTL, manipulate their own and others bodies.

Dwayne McDuffie is a comic book and tv writer that had a hand in a lot of the iconic action cartoons of the 2000s and 2010s. he was a head writer for Static Shock, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Ben 10 Alien Force and Ultimate Alien. He also wrote on Teen Titans and Whats New Scooby Doo. He was an incredible talent who left a mark on a lot of people through his art. RIP to him.

Although technically stand-alone as movies, I’d consider *’Superman/Batman: Apocalypse’* as a sequel to *’Superman/Batman: Public Enemies’* as the comics these were based on had the latter lead into the former.
I’d then take it a step further and include *’Superman: Unbound’* to make it an unofficial trilogy.
Also,. to Martian Manhunter, he doesn't have a specific weakness towards fire. Rather its a psychological thing. Basically, he watched his entire people, and more specifically his family, IIRC, burn to death when his planet was conquered by White Martians, leaving him the last survivor
That was actually only canon for a single comic run that was retconned soon after thanks to Flashpoint. It’s a real weakness.

With how abundant kryptonite ends up feeling like superman really didn't need to give batman that little shard.
Depending on the story, it's not that abundant. Even Lex and Batman with all their resources might only have a sliver or a small rock sized amount.
In the comics its arguably more of a symbol that he sides with Bruce on this.
In a later comic its revealed he actually made two rings and keeps one on himself at all times which he used to fight Supergirl when she was under Darkseids control
Great choice for a reaction. One thing I like the most about this film is the amount of conflict that is created because of Batman and his contingencies against nearly every hero on Earth, really shows how untrusting he is towards the people he cares about even to his closest friends like Clark and Diana, even himself and I to an extent you can understand his plans since the DC Universe is full of dangerous and mind controlling threats that could compromise heroes, but still he let his plans get stolen pretty easily which was his fault.
Nevertheless I'm glad Superman still trusts Batman and the two still remains great friends together, since Clark very much understands what it means to control his powers and knows they can be dangerous in the wrong hands.
Btw the way Green Lanterns power ring works is that he can materialise anything he can imagine with the ring to an unlimited extent, but no he can't restructure his own DNA. If you want to learn more about Green Lantern Id highly recommend Green Lantern: The Animated Series (2011) sadly the show got cancelled after 1 season due to the failure of the live action movie but it truly dives into the the incredible mythos of Green Lantern comics and the great world building that we only get to see in the comics. The storytelling and characters alone are so fleshed out and developed.

For Batman its not a matter of trust, Superman is actually probably tied with nightwing with how much he trusts him.
Instead its about duty, the strongest members have the potential to be world enders if so much as mind controlled.
In the comics you'll find there is actually very few differences between superman and batman (passed the image Bruce puts up), and their ideas on contingencies is not one of them, Clark even has had a lead container holding a kryptonite ring just in case
Agreed for all the recommendations, and I would like to add Justice league: gods and monsters to that list. Even though maybe their knowledge of the DC universe is not complete enough to get which secondary characters are which heroes/ vilain in this alternate universe, but it's a great movie nonetheless.

Gods and Monsters is another excellent and highly underrated DC animated movie, though, as you said since these guys are newcomers to DC, I imagine they'd be a little confused/new to Elseworld stories and unsure of whether these depictions of Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman are important or integral. Odds are if you know more about the canon universe and see how much the movie recontextualises things as a different universe you can appreciate the little changes more

This is the movie that shows how far Batman is willing to go to protect the Earth from any threat, even the Justice League because as the tactician of the team, it’s literally his job to be 2, if not, 3 steps ahead for whatever event may occur. He knew the risk of what would happen if the others knew about this and he was fine with it because their abilities can only go so far before it snaps entirely and unless a backup plan was already made, everyone on the planet will be in jeopardy. Henceforth, Bruce Wayne is and always will be the most vital member of this group of protectors.

Superman versus the elite is a wonderful superman movie that tackles superman’s perspective on killing villains I think you guys would enjoy watching it

In fact, except Superman (who’s voiced by Tim Daly, his actor from Superman the Animated Series), Cyborg (who wasn’t in the DCAU) and Green Lantern (who was John Stewart in the DCAU) all the Leaguer are voiced by their actors from Justice League/Justice League Unlimited (Kevin Conroy as Batman, Michael Rosenbaum as Flash, Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman and Carl Lumbly as Martian Manhunter). They even brought back Alexis Denisof as Mirror Master, Olivia D’abo as Star Sapphire and Phil Morris as Vandal Savage.
There's actually recorded audio logs that tie into this movie with Batman going over each and every one of his plans for the JL

16:23 From what I've heard, Green Lanterns _can_ alter their bodies with the ring; I was told that Kyle Rayner (briefly the "last" Green Lantern in the period when DC tried to fresh-start many of their characters) used his ring to keep himself ripped despite a sedentary job and a Doritoes-based diet. It's not quite the same as making himself small/huge or growing extra limbs, but it's something.

JL Doom, or rather Tower of Babel the original story this is based off is another one of those batman stories people completely miss the point and just think how it makes batman look cool. In the original story the whole point is to show how Batman's is flawed, his loneliness, obssesion and paranoia making him act like despicable person. He stalks, manipulates and take advantage of the members trusting him. In the end he was supposed to realize how awful he was and that he needed to learn to trust people

Star Sapphire isn't Starfire's sister lol and is actually another lantern like Green Lantern, specifically she's a Violet Lantern whose powers are charged/powered by love
16:20 - Green Lanterns can create anything thier mind imagines using thier ring, and can to an extent manipulate thier own aura (the green glow around thier bodies that shields them from attacks like a superhuman punch, and from suffocating in space).
Thier only limit is that creating constructs requires the ring to be charged and their mind to be focused.
A Green Lantern cannot manipulate thier own physical bodies unless their specific species lets them do that, so no matter what Hal Jordan makes, he will still be 100% human.
Fear is the greatest enemy of Willpower, and how that affects GL varies depending on the writer. In some cases the ring will abandon Green Lanterns who succumb to thier fears, deeming them unworthy, and in others Green Lanterns giving into fear weakens thier constructs considerably and they struggle to create stable ones.

Michael Rosenbaum did play Lex Luthor in Smallville and at the same time voiced the Flash in the Justice League animated series in 01-04, Justice League Unlimited 04-06, and in 5 episodes of the Static Shock animated series, Kid Flash in TeenTitans, and Deadman in the Batman: The Brave and the Bold 09 animatedseries. His first DC voice work was in 99 voicing multiple characters in Batman Beyond including Ghoul a member of the Joker gang in the series & animated movie.

Sad no-one seems to have mentioned, as far as I can see, that something particularly cool about this film is that it's cast is pretty much the entire cast returning and reprising their voices from Justice League/Justice League Unlimited, the animated shows.
Minus Nathan Fillion since they used John Stewart in the shows. But Nathan's become the staple voice for Hal and I can't think of anyone better :P
Bane was one of the first to figure out Batman's identity
In the comics Bane was introduced in "The Knight Fall Saga" in it he pushed Batman to his limits of endurance, partly by arranging a mass brake out of Arkham Asylum. In that story Bane track him back to Wayne Manor and go's after Bruce when he's runing on empty heading for bed. Bane beats the crap out of him and drags him across the city to GCPD headquarters. Then in view of TV camera crews brakes Batman's back and claims dominion over Gotham City. Leading to a new batman steping in for months, but he was crazy with his own mental problems even before becomeing Batman.
Lex Luthor's actor from smallvile is one of the most popular flash voice actors. He was also the kid flash from teen titans(2003)
In one integration the Joker created the Royal Flush Gang. Plus it was great part of the Batman Beyond series

For example, All green lanterns can use their rings to phase through objects and attacks (a power that most authors and like, ALL media outside comics ignores or doesn't remember) also they all gain super strength from the ring. But that'd be about it as far as i remember (they can use their rings to give themselves body enhancing implants though. Kinda like cyberpunk cyborgs) also their rings' life support can keep a green lantern alive even after they have died sometimes

The Crime Syndicate basically evil versions of Superman, wonderwoman, and Batman. It give even more context as to why Batman was so adamant in creating these plans.
On one hand, it’s very understandable why Batman created those contingency plans. As he himself pointed out, the Justice League are among some of the most powerful and dangerous beings on the planet.
If they ever intended to go rogue or indirectly succumbed to a form of mind control, earth would be fucked and no one would stand a chance. But on the other hand, Batman should had been honest and told his teammates the truth in secret. Least it would had been a lot more understandable on their part so that way, they wouldn’t had felt betrayed or manipulated. Unfortunately, despite the fact that Batman is capable of teamwork and working together with other heroes, he is still at his core very distrustful of people and is often very paranoid of the possible what-if scenarios. Hell, he doesn’t even trust himself and created plans to stop himself should anything bad ever happens. That alone shows that in some way, Batman is the most dangerous one of all, despite the fact that he’s human with no special abilities of any kind.
I honestly don’t blame him for doing all of this. It’s better to be prepared than to be caught off guard. Green Lantern was the only one who understood why Batman did what he did while everyone else was not seeing the bigger picture.

In the Comics Bane figured out who Batman is in just a Year by looking at His Chin. I hate most interpretations of Bane because Comics Bane is SUCH a Good Character, and He's not just strength, He's a Genius, has a really good Backstory, has had a History of breaking His Drug Addiction, and is actually respected by Batman. Joker might be Batman's Opposite, but Bane is the Perfect Batman Villain.
Green Lanterns can actually manipulate their own bodies to some degree- particularly to heal wounds and bones much faster than normal- but some Lanterns have gone farther- one called Arisia used her ring to accelerate her aging from age twelve to nineteen. Stuff like that.
In this version, Cyborg was never with the Titans, joined the Justice Leage directly because he is made of Apokalips tech. He was replaced in the Titans by Blue Beetle, alien techno-symbiote with the exact same power set.
About green lanterns powers since you asked in the vid, yes the ring can affect his body as well. Like the list of things it can't do just straight up doesn't exist. In the comic this movie is based on, the contingency for GL was to trick him into thinking he was blind, which the ring reacted to his thoughts and... Actually blinded him.
Also yeah don't worry about a lack of imagination using the ring, everyone makes fun of hal for basically just making guns and hammers most of the time
I don't know if anyone else has answer this. But yes, a Green Lantern ring. If you will it hard enough can alter your own body in the calmics. 1 Of the lanterns do not sleep with his ring on because he's afraid of having a nightmare, his Ring activating. And later I think in that same storyline.Batman tricked him to think he was blind in the ring actually made him blind

Lanterns can create energy constructs of anything they can imagine. Each type of Lantern has to draw on their color's emotion/aspect to create the constructs. It's called the Emotional Electromagnetic Spectrum. Red is Rage, Orange is Averice (Greed), Yellow is Fear, Green is Willpower, Blue is Hope, Indigo is Compassion, Violet is Love, White is Life, Black is Death.
Star Sapphire Corps are Violet Lanterns. Love being their source of power is how Hal being her ex makes her so vengeful.

Cyborg actually has a higher intelligence level than Batman does but Batman has the skills and the experience to look at things differently that's why he is so important to the overall team success is because he looks at things at a different angle than anybody else does even cyborg with his super intelligence misses a lot of key details and angles and possibilities that Batman comes up with because he has that open concept of imagination that he's developed over his career
Batman is more the money than the brain. Cyborg meanwhile got bumped up to Justice League member in reboots, he went back to the Titans because you don't fix what's not broke but sometimes he's made part of the seven ahead of Martian Manhunter or the more obscure Red Tornado, for this it seems that he replaces Aquaman.
Doom is partly based off of the Tower of Babel storyline, wherein it's learned that Batman has contingencies for everyone and Ra's al Ghul uses it against them, it did affect the trust a lot. The movie uses Vandal Savage instead, as well as the more common versions of Green Lantern and The Flash. The contingencies may've been ripped off of X-Men's Xavier Protocols 4 years earlier.
Star Sapphire is not related to Starfire, she's an ex/love interest of Hal Jordan who gets lantern-esque powers by the Star Sapphires, whose power source is love. Bane has always knew, he deduced it early, breaking Bruce's back came from the comic Knightfall, in which Bane debuted by having him wearing out Bruce with several villain attacks and then jumping him in the batcave. Green Lantern can only create constructs it can't affect his living matter I believe.

I read the comic this is based on. I will say they understood where Batman was coming from. Their main issue was the fact that he didn't tell them. They didn't like the whole doing it behind their backs thing because they definitely understood the whole mind control thing and turning to the dark side thing, but they felt that at the very least he would have been open about it.
And I know someone might bring up them knowing would probably make it easy for them to counteract it...he doesn't need to tell them what the plans are just that there are plans in place in case someone goes rogue to stop them.
The gang at the beginning of the movie that was trying to steal all of those diamonds is the Royal Flush Gang.

I don’t know if you guys will see this but I am so happy to finally see a group not get on Hal Jordan for being unclever, so many people compare him to the other green lanterns and thanks he’s not clever or they could do better but you actually have to know how the thing works that you are creating which means he literally knows down to the detail how to actually make a gun or at least know the mechanics of how a gun works good enough to make one plus you have to do it incredibly quickly and be able to keep focus and have willpower or it will just not be that durable or effective.
There's a psychological aspect of Batman leaving the Justice League of his own accord: Because no one voted him out, those people are more likely to accept him back in. They wouldn't feel the social pressure of letting in someone they voted against, and they wouldn't feel as strong about sticking to their views because they didn't actually found those views in the form of a vote.
It's just pride and ego.
Each animation style is a different story line/universe. Doom goes with the one that is called Crisis on Two Earths. Then the next Justice League one (I think) Is Flashpoint and that's when DC reset everything and the JL looks different and have new outfits.
Then it's JL WAR, JL DARK and JL Apokolips War.
And after that it's another reset with Superman: Man of Tomorrow and Justice Society: World War II.
What's dope is that they all are connected. Even with that new 3 part movie Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Green Lantern rings draw their power from Willpower, one of the seven colors of the Emotional Spectrum. Using their strong will, they can literally create anything out of the green light of Willpower as long as they can imagine it.
Even the suit they wear is created by the power, and while it generally takes on a base appearence, they can alter it slightly to fit their style.
There should be a comic panel os scene where plastic man is meeting some of his fans but everyone there is cosplaying as convincing house furniture

Watching this before Crisis on Two Earths still works. Even though this series is supposed to be a sequel to that one, they're held together by a very loose shoestring. Heck, even the voice cast is completely different.
Best part of this animated movie is hearing Claudia Black’s voice for Cheetah. I love Farscape and hearing her voice a DC character. The science fiction series is on Tubi and Peacock.

Personally, I feel like Batman should have at least asked for the rest of the Justice League’s consent. Like, explain and justify to them the need for contingencies against them, while not telling what exactly the contingencies are specifically. I mean, all that would be lost is the element of surprise (but only slightly). In that, all they’ll know is that Bruce has plan to incapacitate them, but they still wouldn’t know what actually the plan is specifically.
