The guys at Carly have been absolute legends and hooked me up with their OBD reader and Carly for BMW App. Using it, I've been able to code my roof to go up and down using my key! Super happy with the result, as you can see from the video!

Yes that is cool. I have Carly and did see the option but didn't think the sunroof selection in comfort mode would work the soft top. I have a 2006 2.5i e85 in black but I fitted the gap-tech + module that works the roof from the key and it also works with the buttons in the car with a single push so you don't have to keep it pressed while it raises or lowers.
Nice vid. I got Carly when I bought my Zed. It’s more than paid for itself. Whether coding you car or fault finding, it’s been terrific. I did the remote roof first too. Followed by DRLs. My only gripe is that you can’t do as much to a z4 as you can on say a 3er or 5er. They have loads more options. I guess they have more shizzle going on being bigger etc.
That's awesome! Will have to look into it. Nice feature to have the key operate the top. And how lucky for you to be wearing a short sleeve shirt and driving top-down right now! It's super cold and snowy here in Michigan. Z4 is still sleeping in the garage. Really anxious to get it back out on the road.
Wow, that was very cool and fun, not to mention educational. Currently, I can get my top to lower from the outside, sometimes. I will have to look at Carly and see what else I can do. And 'Yes' do a few more videos with you new Carly. Thanks.

Great vid and the product itself is great. Carly as a company through I've not had the best experience with. The part took over a week to arrive (supposed to be 2 days shipping) and have been passed around various departments where none of which were able to provide me a progress update on my order. Bit of a shame as the product itself is good so far when I've used it.

I bought one of these for my E46 and my E53 to do a little coding. It worked fine on my E46 but would not work at all on my E53. Carly claimed it would. Found no modules at all in it. Sent it back. Glad it worked for you.
I've had mine for a year and just found out about this feature. Was just thinking how convenient it would be if my key could open the top, and for shit and giggles held the unlock key... And it went up.. was astonished and so happy. Couldn't believe it.

E89: I used Carly to code the roof open and close while driving and used the battery reset to change and register a new battery - that paid for the app and adapter. Very happy with it.
That is such a cool coding device Joel. When I got my Z4 it already had the roof lowering function on my key but it would be interesting to see what other things the coder can do
Great job.
I just programmed mine and the top will open and close, however during the close the top comes up and latches but the windows do not, they will close if you release the button and press and hold, probably a safety feature.
