Thank you DO5DGH that is very kind of you. Will be posting more CB radio reviews soon. Thanks for taking the time to comment and all the very best MJ7NLK
It seems to me that you have the best content with and about the cb radio on you tube, by the way, recommend me a cb radio for a truck for normal use, as a reference neither too expensive nor too cheap in terms of quality and price. In conclusion, I want to thank you for the time you spent making the videos for us👍🙌
Hi Marius, I very much appreciate your kind words. There will be more content coming soon. I have been so busy in the first quarter that its been difficult to find time. Stay tuned as there will be more on its way soon. All the best and thanks for watching
Odd how this radio only produces 7watts while the smaller Bill produces 15. Great video by the way, well produced and very clear. They make a great reference
Hi Simon, some of the radios have much more room for expandability than others. I guess its down to the components used. Some can only expand to 120 channel mode and other all the way. Down to the design and the size of the heat sink fitted as to the heat it could dissipate. All the best
Good morning sir. I travel a road that has no telephone service for a few miles. With my health conditions it really worries me. I have to rely on CB to communicate. Is President your favorite radio and which one, if someone were to want more power, can you get the most power out of. Love your videos. You put everything in layman’s terms. Thanks
Hi Rob, thank you for your kind words. Its not just about power, the antenna and tuning it well for low SWR will also make a big difference. My favorite radio is the President Richard which can push 50W but is a HAM radio out the box and needs expanding to cover CB frequencies. The President Walker 2 is essentually the same radio as the Richard but is CB out the box. They share the same circuit board but when expanded the Richard does have a little more power. So, if your wanting CB then the Walker 2 is a lovely unit, powerful when expanded and easy to use. Watch my Richard and Walker 2 videos for all the info on them. If you want Single Side Band in your radio then hold fire as the new President George 2 is due any day now. Everyone waiting for stock to arrive and very much looking forward to testing that unit as it has much promise. The Richard and Walker have an RF Gain dial on the front so you can expand the radio and dial the power back to your legal limit under normal use and the option is then there in an emergency to increase. I did a couple of videos on Antenna Tuning and also the Diamond HF10-FX which is a 10 meter band antenna but when extended to its max length works really well for me on CB 11 Meter Frequencies. CRT and Alinco make nice radios and the Midland M20 is nice but I do like my President radios. If your UK or EU based then all the President radios you see on my channel have expandability but if your in the US then they are different and have mostly had the expandability removed. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
Re: prepper mode. Interested in your thoughts on prepper radio stations. Would like to know your setup for power down. Thanks. Tried the setups with FCC radios. Most work, but no FM and some, do give extra bands.
Hi Buzzie, it depends on budget really and location of use (portable or fixed). You could manage with a solar generator like Jackery, Anker, etc. Most have a DC output built in so simple to connect to a radio and very portable. Best to have multiple options for flexibility and redundancy. The problem with large hard-wired panels and a multi-Li-ion battery setup is they are an advert to the people who didn’t prepare. A small portable solar generator, radio and antenna would provide a good amount of flexibility to cater for most situations. All the best and thanks for watching
I was able to use the same steps to enter the hidden menu in a president Thomas FCC radio. Most of the stuff is the same. It does allow for some nice adjustment. I had wished that they would have had a AM modulation adjustment. I am getting about 65% average modulation at normal speaking voice and the higher sounds get 85% and if I say audio it will go over 100%. If I am correct on am if you don't have good modulation it doesn't matter if it has a bunch of power? Even when the power is turned way down the modulation stays the same. I think some radios if you turned up the power they couldn't do the modulation. I have been away from radio to long. Now that I have seen the hiden menu and saw what the stuff does my only issue with the Thomas is that you can't dim the display. It is loaded with so many features that I can't believe it doesn't have that. I do enjoy your videos. I can't wait to see you work your way through the rest of the president radios and then the next brand. I believe you said that you don't see much from cobra radio in the Europe, well they seem to have narrowed the stuff in the US also and in my opinion they seem to have an above average amount of issues with the CB radios. Cheers and thanks for the informative videos.
Hi Robert, thanks for confirming the FCC variant also allows for access to the factory services menu. AM modulates the amplitude (signal strength) vs the base carrier in order to transmit the voice signal. So, the input voice signal is combined with the carrier signal and requires more power when it is greater (shouting) or less power when it is smaller (whispering) but will always be 4W or more in this example as that is the strength of the base carrier being output. If your carrier signal is 4W you can see up to 12W being output if you're screaming down the microphone or around 8W if talking normally (just an example). FM on the other hand is a continuous signal and it is the frequency that is modulated. A 4W FM transmission will always be 4W regardless of the input voice signal. Thanks for the feedback on the videos and I am pleased you're enjoying them. They really do take time to research and put together but it's fun doing them. Unfortunately, time is my enemy at the moment so I have not been able to get the next video completed yet. I have the Lincoln 2+ and Harrison 2 left to review and then that's the entire President line up done. I have heard from a few US viewers about less than ideal Cobra quality control but cannot confirm this as we just can't get them here. Thanks for watching. All the very best
Hi there, very useful video, many thanks. In your opinion would this be a good starter radio. Have you tried out in the field and with what antenna?? Cheers, John.
Hi John, thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback which is appreciated. Yes this is a great first radio, you cant really go wrong with any of the current President line up. I personally use a Diamond HF10FX antenna (see my video on that) which is easy to tune and works brilliantly for me on 10 meter (HAM Band) or 11 meter (CB band). "Height is Might" with CB Radio and HF frequencies so the bigger the better but it depends on your vehicle. Your not going to get away with a 2 meter antenna on a Smart Car :-). The Diamond is expensive and there are much cheaper options available. Thunderpole are good (the Orbitor HD is good value, Orbitor SS stainless steel is good also), K40 or Wilson are excellent. Maybe a Wilson "Little Wil" would do nicely and reasonably priced or the Wilson 1000 if thats within your price range. All the best
I would like to know if it is possible to increase the performance of the Berry II cb radio with an RM KL203P type amplifier? What is your opinion? Regards: m.perczel
Yes an RF amplifier will boost the signal on any CB radio. The KL203P would do the job. However, the use of burners (amplifiers) that exceeds the legal limit are illegal to use. So, it depends on the law in your region. Just be careful to not over run the amp. Best to keep the power coming out of the radio down and let the amp do its job. Overpowering the input can damage it. All the best and thanks for watching
I have a question how to do it and whether it is possible to make the final frequency not 5khz but zero - it applies to Poland, e.g. 26560 mhz. Are cabals marked with alpha "holes"? can anyone help.
Hi Bobby, thanks for letting me know the services menu can be accessed in the same way on the equivalent Andy 2 FCC. All the best and thanks for watching
Hi i have t0 when i get on the radio in case of es… how can i get es back…? I have also a . Between my 2 numbers: 1.0 in place of 10 for example… thanks
Long pressing the F key usually swaps between t0 and t5 modes. If your seeing a dot between the channel numbers then your in t0 mode. If that doesn't work on your radio then let me know and I will get a Barry 2 out the cupboard and work out the keys needed to switch modes. I just can't remember on the Barry 2 without playing around but its normally the F key long press or double press on President radios. All the best and thanks for watching and commenting. MJ7NLK
I am unable to get the Thomas in Europe as its a US version of the Barry 2. I am unable to test to see if the same combination accesses the menu on the Thomas, sorry. They have just come out with a new version of the Barry 2 called the Barry 2+ here which has NRC which is a most welcomed addition. I am yet to get my hands on it but good to see new models coming out. Thanks for watching and commenting. MJ7NLK
You could try to adjust your FM deviation. If you have increased your standard power output then the FM deviation may need tweaking. In the factory services menu, try adjusting the F2 setting both up and down with some trial and error and see if your friends report it getting louder. The desired value is 1.9KHz but you will need test equipment to do that so trial and error is your only option. Write down the existing setting before making changes. My standard setting was FF. Hope this helps. Happy new year and all the best for 2024.
Did you watch Part One of the Barry 2 videos which shows you how to undertake the export mode modification which expands the radio and enables the additional options?
Hi, I do not know the answer to that one. I use an external power meter for measuring the output as the four bars don't really tell you much. It could be a 4W scale or a percentage of total power. It would have to be tested to find out for sure. It is unlikely to be anything overly accurate as the radio would need to factor in CW and PEP in order to provide anything meaninful and as there is no scale or measurement type indicator it wouldn't be of much use. Good question and not one I have been asked before. All the best and thanks for watching
Hi, I do not have an Andy 2 FCC to know for sure but they are the same radio and it should work the same as the Barry 2 in standard mode. Happy new year to you and thanks for watching
Hi, the FM deviation adjustment on the Barry 2 is in the factory services menu and is the F2 option. My standard value is FF and the recommended adjustment is to 1.9KHz. All the best and thanks for watching
I don't know as the Thomas is an FCC version and they usually are restricted vs the EU equivalent. I cannot get any of the FCC versions to be able to validate what options are available. I would work on the basis that it wont work but if you already have one then you could open it up to see inside. All the best and thanks for watching
Danke fürs Zuschauen, alles Gute Hi Artur, I already have a President Martin video on the channel which shows you how to access the service menu. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, all the best
I don't know on that one. I suspect that the factory services menu will be available in the same way on the Thomas but the ability to expand will have been removed. There might be a small amount of headroom in standard mode but I don't have any FCC versions to be able to test and compare. All the best and thanks for watching
Könntest Du erklären was A Band, B Band und C Band bedeuten?
Hi, thank you for watching. The band blocks relate to 40 channel blocks with different frequencies. The A band block is the standard CEPT frequencies from 26.965 to 27.405 and is usually referred to as Normal. Band block B is usually referred to as Superior and starts after Band block A at 27.415 to 27.855 and Band block C is usually referred to as Inferior and is before Band Block A starting at 26.515 to 26.955. So, when in numeric order it goes Band block C, then A, then B covering 26.515 to 27.855 in increments of 10KHz. If you have a President radio this is the case when in TS mode which is normal mode. If in T0 mode then take off 5KHz. (T0 means -5 KHz). It can be confusing at first and some radios have other blocks D, E, F etc which are just more bands in blocks of 40. I hope this helps and that the translator has done well converting this over. All the best and thanks for watching.
@@NLKMediaGroup Hi. Yes! The translator worked well. Thank you for the detailed explanation, which I did not expect. That is not a matter of course. With your explanation and my own research, I think I got it. The A-B-C radio bands irritated me. I think they correspond to the allowed German channels 1-80. These are radio bands A and C. Channels 5-40 are listed as "Export" which is believed to be radio band B. In any case, I will have to delve deeper into the matter. I would like to thank you in advance for the help you have provided and I would be very happy to see more videos. So I say a "73", which means greetings here. Joerg
@@coolerkerl Thank you for your reply. If you check my website, I have a service sheet for the President Harry 3 (different radio I know) you can download which has the standard frequencies in it for each mode on a President radio. nlkmediagroup.com/presidentharry3cbr/ It's at the bottom of the page and is a link to the PDF which might be helpful on Page 5. I will compose a full listing of the band blocks at some point and make that available. Time has been my issue recently, but I have a few weeks off soon and intend to be pushing some videos up. I have 10 CB radios on the shelf ready for review (President, CRT, Alinco and Midland) and am desperately trying to get to them. I might do some shorter unboxing videos on them and then follow up with more in-depth reviews afterwards. I have so many plans for videos but with a large family and increased work pressures I am struggling to get to them. Things should settle down soon so will be back uploading again. 73's to you, all the best. MJ7NLK
@@NLKMediaGroup Thank you for the effort! And for the tip about the website, which I didn't know about yet. I already knew the list on page 5 in a similar form! I just couldn't match the radio channels to the band blocks. If you intend to make a list of tape blocks, don't make it just for me. This is also a task for me. I can't always let other people do the work. I am very happy about your invested time and the videos to come. Always remember that your free time must also benefit your family. With this in mind, good luck for the coming weeks. Greetings from Jörg
I have the cb now in ts mode but I want to adjust back to EU. So i press F and turn on same time, but it shows ts and wont let me change. How to adjust it back to EU mode ?
when expanded you can't use the pre-set norms. you use band blocks instead. I think band block D is the EU frequencies. if you move the jumper back to 1+2 it will revert the radio back to standard and you can access the norms again as normal. Best to get used to the band blocks if you want the advantages of expanding the radio. turn the channel to 01 and move between band blocks and when you see 26.965 you using the CEPT EU 40 channels. hope this helps. All the best MJ7NLK
I do see the block A, B and C but not the D block unfortunatly. I also notice that in the screen it says UK. Also when keep on scrolling, unfortunatly I do not see the freq. What does the cut wire do? And what does the jumper do?
@@evglaser Cutting the wire allows the radio to use high power mode when in expanded mode. The jumper in 2&3 position expands the radio so that it can break outside of the standard 40 CB channels and cover more frequencies. In order to do this it uses blocks of 40 channels with different frequencies in each. When in Band Block A it will cover 40 channels with one set of frequencies, when in Band Block B it will cover a different set of 40 channels on different frequencies. To use high power mode the radio needs to be in expanded mode and the wire cut, otherwise it will expand the radio but remain in standard power mode. Moving the jumper back to 1+2 will revert the radio back to standard norms and frequencies and back to normal power mode. I haven't used my Barry 2 for a while and cover a lot of radios so will have to get it out to check what band block relates to the EU 40 when in expanded mode. Will revert a bit later on this and let you know. MJ7NLK
@@evglaser Right, hooked out my Barry 2, expanded it and did some testing. Here are the frequencies in expanded mode: Band Block A = 26.965 to 27.405MHz which is the CEPT EU Band Band Block B = 27.415 to 27.855MHz which is superior (ie the next block above A) Band Block C = 26.515 to 26.965MHz which is inferior (ie the band block below A) When the mode button is pressed and you see UK on the screen and no Band Block is shown this is the UK FM 40: UK FM = 27.60125 to 27.99125MHz Please note that the @ symbol that is displayed on screen between channels 3, 7, 11, 15 and 19 relates to what are known as Alphas. The standard range of 40 channels steps up in 10KHz steps except on channels 3, 7, 11, 15 and 19 where the step is 20KHz. So, in between channel 3 and 4 there is a hidden channel if using the same 10KHz spacing. When expanding the radio you are able to access these hidden channels as well as denoted by the Alpha symbol. Expanding the radio gives you 40 channels + 5 extra channels in each band block being 45 channels x 3 (A, B and C) = 135 plus the UK FM 40 means that in expanded mode the radio is capable of 175 freqencies of which 135 can be switched between AM and FM with Alphas and 40 are fixed to FM with no Alphas. I hope this helps explain things for you. All the best and thanks for watching. MJ7NLK
@@evglaser The Barry 2 only has A, B and C in the band blocks and does not provide the full band-block expansion that other more expensive President radios do. On some of the other radios in the range they have blocks for A through to L covering a much wider sets of frequencies.
Yes, I have covered this in news sections on other videos. It's available now. I haven't got around to getting one yet. Still working through a backlog of radios which need reviewing first but will get one to see whats changed outside of NRC. All the best and thanks for watching. MJ7NLK
Hi Michael, thanks for watching. On the Barry 2 you turn the radio off, press and hold the Mode button and EMG button and turn the radio on. Use the up down buttons to change colour. When you have the one you like. Press and hold the F key until a beep is heard and then your done. Hope this helps. All the best
The radios are built with these modifications from the factory. I have not had any issues with enabling export modes in radios. Just remember to write down your factory calibrated settings so you can revert settings back if needed. All the best and thanks for watching.
Hi Casey, thanks for watching. The Andy 2 is the US version of the Barry2 so will be very similar just with more restrictions on the Andy to comply with FCC rules. The combination to access the menu should be the same but I dont have an Andy 2 (I am in the UK, well near to the UK) to try that out on. If the combination works on your Andy 2 then please let me and the other viewers know. All the best MJ7NLK

MJ7NLK
Do you have service menu adjustment for the FCC thomas
I am unable to get the Thomas in Europe as its a US version of the Barry 2. I am unable to test to see if the same combination accesses the menu on the Thomas, sorry. They have just come out with a new version of the Barry 2 called the Barry 2+ here which has NRC which is a most welcomed addition. I am yet to get my hands on it but good to see new models coming out. Thanks for watching and commenting. MJ7NLK
Hallo vielleicht können sie mir helfen . MEINE FREUNDE SAGEN ICH BIN ZU LEISE AUF Fm was kann ich da tun und einstellen? ..
I do not have p2 in moded state, is their somerhing I can do to have this and to adjust it?
Did you watch Part One of the Barry 2 videos which shows you how to undertake the export mode modification which expands the radio and enables the additional options?
Hi do you know if on the signal meter if each bar is 2 pounds as it only goes up to 4 bar on key
Can you get into service menu of the President Andy 2 FCC
Hi, I do not have an Andy 2 FCC to know for sure but they are the same radio and it should work the same as the Barry 2 in standard mode. Happy new year to you and thanks for watching
Hı my Barry 1 model tx modilation is low FM? Whats the model modilation mods? Thanks..
Hi, the FM deviation adjustment on the Barry 2 is in the factory services menu and is the F2 option. My standard value is FF and the recommended adjustment is to 1.9KHz. All the best and thanks for watching
Any chance this process will work on a president thomas fm radio?
I don't know as the Thomas is an FCC version and they usually are restricted vs the EU equivalent. I cannot get any of the FCC versions to be able to validate what options are available. I would work on the basis that it wont work but if you already have one then you could open it up to see inside. All the best and thanks for watching
Hallo.
Hi Artur, I already have a President Martin video on the channel which shows you how to access the service menu. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, all the best
Vriendelijke groeten
Hi John, thanks for watching and for commenting. Kindest regards
Will this also apply to the Thomas Fcc ll?
Here are the frequencies in expanded mode:
Band Block A = 26.965 to 27.405MHz which is the CEPT EU Band
Band Block B = 27.415 to 27.855MHz which is superior (ie the next block above A)
Band Block C = 26.515 to 26.965MHz which is inferior (ie the band block below A)
When the mode button is pressed and you see UK on the screen and no Band Block is shown this is the UK FM 40:
UK FM = 27.60125 to 27.99125MHz
Please note that the @ symbol that is displayed on screen between channels 3, 7, 11, 15 and 19 relates to what are known as Alphas.
There is a new Barry 2+ coming out shortly, nrc ect hopefully more fm power output
Yes, I have covered this in news sections on other videos. It's available now. I haven't got around to getting one yet. Still working through a backlog of radios which need reviewing first but will get one to see whats changed outside of NRC. All the best and thanks for watching. MJ7NLK
Hi, how do I change the colour of the backlight
Hi Michael, thanks for watching. On the Barry 2 you turn the radio off, press and hold the Mode button and EMG button and turn the radio on. Use the up down buttons to change colour. When you have the one you like. Press and hold the F key until a beep is heard and then your done. Hope this helps. All the best
I cant see A2 menu
Is modding the radio dangerous in anyway please?
The radios are built with these modifications from the factory. I have not had any issues with enabling export modes in radios. Just remember to write down your factory calibrated settings so you can revert settings back if needed. All the best and thanks for watching.
Are there secret settings for the Andy2 ?
Hi Casey, thanks for watching. The Andy 2 is the US version of the Barry2 so will be very similar just with more restrictions on the Andy to comply with FCC rules. The combination to access the menu should be the same but I dont have an Andy 2 (I am in the UK, well near to the UK) to try that out on. If the combination works on your Andy 2 then please let me and the other viewers know. All the best MJ7NLK
@@NLKMediaGroup thank you for writing back. Most don't.....Truly appreciated,
@@NLKMediaGroup I will post all my data👍. I'm just waiting on my wilson lil wil 36" antenna. I'm hoping to get a full 5 watts. I'm just outside of Las Vegas and only need a 5 mile minimum radius . Do you think that's possible ?
@@caseykelso1 yes that is possible if there are no obstructions but if heavily populated that will decrease to approx 1 to 2 miles dependant on elevation and building density. It really does vary but Wilson make some lovely antenna. Mount as high as you can and tune for SWR and see how you get on. All the best
@@NLKMediaGroup just one more question and I'll stop... what if you move the clip pin to 23 position Without Cutting the white wire? I'm in the US so I will just be using the the regular standard 40 channel frequency CB radio. That ABC stuff really has screwed me up cuz I have no clue what means. if it's like our ssb side band that we have here, that people use ,or if it's something totally different? I'm just all confused
