Leopard and Hyena Break Warthog Apart While Still Alive

- Jonathan McCormick experienced a rare and intense moment of wildlife interaction during a game drive in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, which he shared with LatestSightings.com.
"While following a leopard on our safari, we observed its strategic movements, hinting at its hunt for prey. The leopard's patience paid off when a warthog emerged from a termite mound, and with remarkable skill, the leopard swiftly engaged it."
The struggle intensified when a hyena, attracted by the commotion, decided to challenge the leopard for the warthog. This led to a dramatic standoff between the two predators, each determined to claim the prize for themselves.
Despite the warthog's distress, the battle between the leopard and the hyena showcased the raw and unpredictable nature of the wild. The leopard, initially successful, found itself in a tug-of-war with the hyena, a testament to the survival challenges animals face in their natural habitats.
As the encounter unfolded, the hyena managed to secure the warthog, joined by another hyena, leaving the leopard to continue its quest for sustenance elsewhere. This event highlighted the fierce competition and survival instincts that define the animal kingdom.

"Just boring" - dude you're just dumb aren't you?
@@thomasneal9291 Not sure where you get that info from. Plenty of videos exist where lions or other predators are able to put down the prey animal quickly. Lions instinctually try to kill the prey, before eating it.

That just shows how strong a Hyena's bite force is he instantly got a hold of his leg and was able to tear meat off
It's strong but not that strong, it's a myth. You probably still believe it's stronger than a lion's bite lol.
@@azmagarefThe biggest lie ever
@@orlandowilliamson691 Yeah, it was put as 1500psi, then revised to 1100psi, then 1000psi. While all lions were given 650psi based on one test decades ago on a sub-adult, then a more recent test had an adult lion produce around 1000psi, so National Geographic says this now:
*"By contrast, you might tear into a steak with 150 to 200 psi (890 newtons). Hyenas, lions, and tigers generate around 1,000 psi (4,450 newtons)."*
Even 1000psi for hyenas is pure assumption, in reality it would be around 700-800psi.
@@azmagaref yes I've never understood why they have a sub adult male in the first place to measure.
@@orlandowilliamson691 Yeah, the problem with those tests is how do you also get the animal to bite full strength on the device, also did the animal use its front teeth or molars to exert pressure, there's a difference here as well. Also how many specimens were tested is important, one animal can't represent its whole species.
So giving solid numbers for bite force isn't really reliable, it can easily become pseudo science like in the case of hyenas, sure they have a very strong bite for their size, but it has to be proportional to their size as well, it can't be stronger than a bite of a male lion which is 2-3 times its size.
It doesn't get much worse than this. Leopard with the death hold, and a hyena ripping you to shreds

Nature: "your feelings don't matter here"
Sometimes predators are really dumb.. the leopard is literally holding it while the hyena eats it.. guess you can’t have strength and brain lol
So he should let it run off then?? Idiot
More than likely the hyena is trying to run off with it.
What would you do different bright spark?
Leopard don't have the jaw strength to rip a live warthogs guts out like hyenas do, they have to strangle most of their prey to death before they eat.
Also where there's 1 hyena there could always be more so the leopard was probably distracted - has to be on the lookout for others if it wants to live.
If it lets go the best result is just the hyena finishing off the hog and the cat still has to square off over the kill. Worst, the hog runs away and the cat has zero chance of getting _anything._
So what would _you_ suggest it do, o great tactical genius?
I wonder if the warthog felt any pain.

why i hate wild dogs and hyenas. They will rip open their prey alive while cats would go for the jugular
