The Collings Foundation B-25 "Tondelayo" at Livermore California on Memorial weekend, 27 May 2019. Awesome sound, 4K ultra high definition video and blurred props. What more can a Warbird enthusiast ask for? How about no music and a bonus P-51? Got it! Index links are below.

I never get tired of seeing that initial belch of smoke from an old radial starting!
Take that EPA!
@@WarbirdVideos LMAO!!!
the way they chuff to life and belch , smoke and everything. once it's got all cylinders firing smooth as silk. it cant be replicated by any other type of machine.
Radial engine in my opinion is one of mankind’s most awesome creations. I love burying money into mine just for the sound lol.
Unless you are there you have no idea how truly LOUD those two engines are in the B-25! It shakes the ground when it takes off!
The louder the better it sounds.
These warbirds never fail to stir my passion, my patriotism, and my undying gratitude and respect for those who flew them "in harms way".
PATRIOTISM? ASSAULTING AND KILL IS YOUR PATRIOTISM? EEUU !
I bought a ride in a B-25J last year and a B-17G this year. Something I will always remember.
How much?
I like to marvel at the state of the art technology of the 1930's. These old warbirds are both priceless and beautiful.
I cant imagine 50-100 of the 25s flying over. What power! What sound!
To the enemy, it sounded like death.

You had to be young , fit and in your prime even to get into that cramped interior. Those 18-22 year old men were truly the Greatest Generation 🇺🇸👍

Forever young. Wonder who will get that ?
In the Netherlands we have one airworthy and two stationairy B25s left .
The flying one is on Gilze Rijen airport , the other two in Overloon warmuseum and Soesterberg airforcemuseum .
They were and are beautifull birds , I still get goosebumps when the flying one comes over my house , that sound is epic .
Gaaf man! En ja die heb ik op een air-show wel es gezien.

Early in 1969 I travelled to San Carlos Mexico just outside of Guaymas on the Gulf of California to visit a friend who had been hired to fly B25s for the movie “Catch 22”. They had 16 planes that they had scoured the world to find and had the restored in California to flying condition. There is some amazing footage in the movie. My friend gave me a tour of his plane and I was stunned to realize how men were willing to fly these aircraft into combat. I have some home movies and 35mm still shots of the planes in the air. There is a great scene in the film of all the planes taking off in rapid order. No CGI in this film, everything real. When the planes arrived on set which included a 2500 ft runway (still visible in satellite view) they looked brand spanking new out of the factory. The director had them messed up with dirt and oil stains to make them look like the had been in constant combat. When you see where the bombardier had to sit you know why Yossarian was constantly trying to get grounded. At the time the group of panes was considered the 10th largest bomber air forces in the world.
Mitchell and mustang, what a beautiful combination. And a fort as well, wow.

this is a real sound of brevity and courage. sound of a warrior.
OMG. What an amazing video of one amazing aircraft. My Uncle Ran Eledge was a rear gunner
on the B-25 during WWII. He was stationed in the UK and flew multiple combat missions and
fortunately returned from the war more or less in one piece but like many veterans the war
made and indelible impression on him for the remainder of his life.

Wonderful plane. It will never lose its elegance.
IT HAS SOME LOGO. SIMPLY THE BEST.!!! ⭐⭐⭐
ESCORTED THE FEARED BEAUTIFUL MUSTANG .!!!
Awesome video. Great image and audio quality. Incredible how small the plane actually is, you can barely sit next to eachother in the cockpit, like in a small car. The sound of twin prop radial engine never gets boring. Goosebumps on start-up and take-off!!
As kid in central Oklahoma in the 50' I watch many
B-25's o training missions fly out of Vance AFB Enid, OK. They would fly fairly low over our farm just south of Okarche, OK then turn southwesterly for a few miles then turn back to the north toward Vance AFB.
Very cool!!

I have an opinion that it should be illegal to add music over any warbird video. This gorgeous engine sounds are all the music one could need!
I agree, well sort of. Here's a creative video of mine with Mustangs. ua-cam.com/video/--zdVerJMvg/v-deo.html

@@murilovsilva Thanks! Don't forget to set the "bell" to receive emails. I don't post very often so you won't get hammered. I do agree with you though. The sound of those powerful engines is a huge part of the "Warbird" experience!
Loved the footage. I grew up in Livermore and took lessons there before going to college in Idaho and getting my license. Back in 1971 it cost me $525.00 to get my license. Great memories.
My dad, Sgt. Alton Wayne Tucker, was a gunner on a B-25 in Burma/Indo-China during WWII. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, and 6 other medals for his part in the war.
Beautiful bird! Enjoyed seeing the other ships as well...sad to see 909...Thanks for this video!
Awesome video. The audio doesn't do justice for those engines...they are really loud!!!... Love it!...
Try headphones!
Great video! Thank you very much for this wonderful sound of the engines, without wind, noise or voices from the other spectators. Here the wonderful sound of the engines. Thanks for that!
You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed it!
i love the sound of a radial engine
I rode on a B-25 a couple years, it was literally the loudest aircraft I've ever been in in my life.
"It sounded like, victory."
07:20 RIP “Nine-O-Nine” and crew!
That is the b17 that was involved in a mid air collision at an air show correct?
B-25 Mitchell - favourite aircraft since I was so high. Bit of a story: Back in WWII, my father served in RAF Coastal Command as a Radio Operator/Navigator/Gunner. Flew on quite a few types - Wellington, Hudson, Catalina, Stirling.... him and his crew were sent out to the Consolidated plant at Willow Run to collect their B24 Liberator and fly it back to the UK. The delivery was delayed, and somehow they found themselves in San Francisco, on 4th July, which coincidentally was my Dad's birthday! Some local USAAF airmen got wind of this and organised him a proper birthday present - a flight in the co-pilots seat of a B-25, under the Golden Gate Bridge, twice, out and back!
Cool Story! Did they have to pay a toll on the Golden Gate Bridge? I think it was 10 cents back then. Kidding aside, I can see the Golden Gate Bridge from my house in Oakland. The B-25 is my favorite medium bomber, ever since I saw "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" maybe in '66 just before teenhood! Here's some more videos - there's one I shot at Duxford 20 years ago! ua-cam.com/users/WarbirdVideosvideos
Actually flown in -25s twice. As sailor, returning to duty after a leave, once (about 1962) hitched a ride from Maxwell, to Andrews on a Mitchell. Couldn't hear, literally, for two or three days afterwards. I sat in a jump seat, for much of the flight to the rear of the two pilots, and roughly centered in the aircraft. This HAPPENs to place you dead center of the two wings. The wing structure forms a "tunnel" open to the actual physical rear of the two engines ... which forms a sound focusing channel .... and the noise level there is simply off the charts ... literally deafening. Great ride, but actually painful at times. Very, very loud conditions.Incidentally, for you drivers out there, Vmc for this machine is 145 mph!!!!! Really high ... for today's equipment.
Too bad that damaging noise levels weren't even considered back then. We we're never taught. And especially young bucks, who of course, are invincible!
Actually, you were kinda considered a "wimp", for lack of a better word(!) for wanting any ear protection in those days. I have major loss of hearing (in my mid eighties) now, partly due to having spent much time on military ranges ... training on .45 colts and other ..... with nothing in the way of ear protection!!! Then added to by a career in aviation, in open cockpit Stearmans (ag-work) and even a few hours in a -51
@@olgreywolf9688 you're almost a gen ahead of me, but I remember the "macho man" mentality for sure. I have a slight hearing loss in one ear, but also tinnitus, and as an audio engineer, I've been careful of my hearing. All it takes is one stupid/careless event. Anyway, thanks for your service my friend! Steve
The B-25 was one versatile aircraft. My goodness, that plane could do it all.
In the mid 50' , we had in URUGUAY , 15 B25 and 25 Mustang P51. Golden years of the FAU , Fuerza Aerea Uruguaya !.
Countries such as Uruguay are why many of these planes exist today. Sending them south to small air forces saved them from the scrappers tourch.
Great video!! I flew in her several years ago, along with 909 :( and Witchcraft. This was BY FAR the most amazing flight experience I ever had. And it's LOUD in there. Sit up front if you ever get a chance to go. Thanks for posting!
absolutly beautiful plane
That sound
at 7:30...; goosebumps .. the sound of freedom...
I love this B-25 Bomber

I've long loved the looks of a B-25, and count myself lucky to see one on the ground and hear it takeoff at the EAA convention at Oshkosh, WI. If you love airplanes you owe it to yourself to visit at least once. Many consider it to be the equivalent of Mecca.
And P-51s! Imagine a dozen or more parked to be admired then flying. And typically several thousand -- yes, thousand -- other aircraft.
I do have a soft spot for this war bird🇬🇧
Excelente gracias
Just beautiful!! The under the wing landing was a stroke!!!
Thanks!
I believe this bomber was nicknamed the widow maker by some pilots because it had a sharp stall speed and was forgiving for the inexperienced. The chugging sounds was impressive from those Pratt Whitney engines. The English Merlin engines were special and turned the P51s into beast. For some reason I thought the Merlin name was in reference the magician of King Auther but it's named after a bird of prey.
Blup blup blup blup... reminds me of a funny car. Way cool! The B-26 Maurader was the "Widow Maker". Hardly any remain, which is sad.
The Merlin engines used in the P-51 Mustangs were actually built by The Packard Motor Car company in the U.S. under license. Packard actually made several upgrades to the Merlin that improved the engine.
@@37silverstreak1 I did
know that. Packard had some fine automobiles and built some impressive engines. My mother's uncle was killed in France.
@@rickhale4348 My Moms 2nd youngest brother was killed in France as well, Aug. 16th 1944, near St. Lo. He was 19 years old. She had 4 brothers that served in WW2. One was a sergeant and an airplane mechanic in the Army Air Corp. He probably worked on some of those Merlins we are talking about!
My mom's uncle was also killed in 1944. I've seen picture's of him. He was well liked. He told the story of his voyage to Europe. The ship was crowded with little privacy. Two men in his section of the ship had one bad habit no one in those conditions could tolerate, neither felt it necessary to bath. In that time bathing often wasn't as frequent and many homes lacked hot water. Antiperspirant was noval. This two fellows took alot of ribbing but flatly refused baptism. It was decided to assist them with their personal hygiene and to make it memorable and something they must do often on their own steel wool was used to scrub them down. They became frequent bathers and their phobia was cured. War brings people together like few things in life. My mom's uncle's name was Leo Taylor. He greatest love was horses and had joined the army cavalry for duty in the American west that still used horses for patrol.
The summer before this video, June 2018, Tondelayo (Yes this very aircraft) showed up in Washington state at our local airport. We found out that they were offering flight lessons in it. I signed up and they let me take my wife along. It was just us and a couple of instructor pilots for about 1/2 hour.. Of bombing all around the San Juan Islands at strafing altitude at the controls of a B25 bomber? That was the ride of our lives!

This looks like Palomar field, San Diego. I am related to Lt. William ( Bill) Farrow, Doolittle Raider, #16, ( Bat out of Hell). Did my first solo from Northrop ( Hawthorne) field in August 1972.
Excellent! Those guys were all heros. I have a section of a B-25 cowling signed by several raiders.

Great Listen on Audible: "Air Apaches" about the 345th Bomb Group in the Pacific against Japan. They flew 100' off the water, outfitted with many forward facing 50 Cals for strafing. They fought the whole war.
Thank God we had it for the war N.A. B25 ,and that beautiful P51.

It sounds a lot better than a year b4 when I flew on her down the Oregon coast north bend to bandon & back. Got some great pictures from tailgunners position but she was pop pop bang banging sounding and broke down the next morning instead of leaving for Corvallis.
I flew twice in Tondelayo when the Collings Foundation was at SNA, and my memories of it then was of less backfiring than in this video. I assume that 100LL is being used both times, so what else could be causing all that popping? Was the ignition retarded the same amount? After Nine-O-Nine crashed I would be less willing to fly again in Tondelayo: the NTSB report is critical of Collings' maintenance culture and procedures.
Beautiful plane

I got to ride in that plane!! Great experience.
Might I inquire as to why she does not have a top ball turret gunner? She reportedly shot down 6 Zeros. 4 were credited to the top ball turret gunner, 2 to the nose gunner and one SHIP! On the variants I looked up all appear to have a top gunner position. Please explain. Thank you.
Aside from cost, weight, aerodynamics and availability, it may have been an obstacle to passengers.
the best view of B-25s was presented in the film "Catch-22"

Seeing the Nine-O-Nine makes me sad that it's gone.
I wish I could see one of these birds fly in person before they're too old to fly. Unfortunately my country has no airshows even near me and with gas prices its hard. I dont even think my country has b-25s 😔

Was there a reason the top turret was removed?
Probably to make room for paying customers.
So this is a G or H model with the dorsal turret removed and a B or C model nose?
The Red Bulls B-25J also got that turrent removed, but it is entmilitarized so i guess that isnt original

I had two rides on this Collings Mitchell bomber with Hedy Lamar as the nose art. Unfortunately, Nine-O-Nine was gone. We had these bombers to do flight tests of an "Online real-time black box" successfully. How stupid and shame that the black box is still tied to the airliners !
