They look like they were having a ball. I am so glad that I grew up in that era. This generation will never understand the freedoms and the fun that we had. God help us all.
That's crazy how Gladys Knight was 43 in this video, because I was a kid when this came out and I'm 43 now! This joint hits harder now that I'm a Grown Man who is single and ready to mingle!
I listen to it and i am not oldie, i appreciate good songs with meaning, and the oldies have life meaning and so do some and i mean Some have life recent music do too.
Thanks for saving me the trouble of looking her age in this video. She looks fantastic and I've always admired how well she aged over the years. Most importantly she sounds terrific such a talent
She is coming to my city this weekend . So glad I got my ticket. This is going to be EPIC. It's February 2024, it's my birthday. I am ready to see her. ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
@@dennispeterson202 My Grandpa Ben was a furrier in Detroit in the 60s-70s and some of the motown artists were customers. One night my grandparents were home eating dinner when someone knocked on the door... My Grandma answered and yelled "Ben, the pimps are here to pick up their furs!". Turned out it was The Pips and she misheard them and thought they were pimps coming to buy new fur coats lol
Back in the day, growing up a white boy on the edge of the ghetto with my 13 brothers and sisters, I used to dream about one day becoming the first caucasian pip.
This was a banger back in '87. Massive song. Reggie and Vincent Calloway gave this jam the Midnight Star feel. And Gladys Knight's voice? Outta this world. Brilliant joint. Love it.
I remember how shocked Glady's was on the Grammy awards when she beat out the more youthful & hugely popular group, New Edition with this jam for best vocal musical group!
Anytime I hear great music like this. I think of my grandmother having a few people over. In one hour it was a party. Rest in Heaven Hortense Caruthers.
A rendition of this song was performed by Gladys Knight, Jasmaine Guy (Whitley Gilbert), and Dawnn Lewis (Jalessa Vinson) in a 1988 episode of A Different World.
A special talent . In her own right. Oldie but still a goodie. Has a real good stage presence. A real show stopper. She aged so gracefully. You go Gladys.
Gladys, Gladys Gladys, Girlfriend! You haven't lost any sparkle and still make me weak in the knees on the dance floor! Your "perfection in performance" PIPS are on fire here too! SOS!
This song is fascinating when you really put your ear to it. The rhythm carries the melody throughout the entire song. Yet it's never repetitive or overbearing. There's a lot going on within the instrumentation as well as the vocal performances of Gladys and the Pips et al -in every section of the song. No part is exactly the same. Everything in this song just seems to totally click. Great composition and recording. It's a masterpiece of our BLACK culture.
I agree with everything you said, except if I were to say what you said, but "it's a masterpiece of our "white" culture , I would be called a racist and shut down??????
I’m white and not offended at all by that statement. But I understand and know this nation’s history and what’s been done to African Americans, now, back to this party! I LOVE this song! 🎉🎉
When this cut came out --- eerybody was like --- what --- Is that Gladys, Gladys, Glayds and the boys! Yep, and it was poppin' with Reggie Calloway from Midnight Star writing the joint that brought Baby Girl and the Pips back into the milieu for their last moment of greatness! #bravo #smokin #NoNo1ontheblackcharts #believethat
Ah, the days of the gifted *singer.* Rich, professional vocals that made you feel a way. Grown women wore clothes and let they talent speak for itself. This song done played in my head all day. I just had to come and check on it.
Gladys Knight,, love Her!❤Legend! I was so very blessed to had met Her In Lancaster, Pa. Many years ago, actually, got her autograph on this LP she signed for me. ❤️🎵😇🙏
I'm here after the verzuz battle between Gladys Knight and Patti Labelle. Two R & B living legends. I enjoy the verzuz battle between different artists. First let me state my reasons why. This came at a time when this world was dealing with a pandemic. People here in this country was dealing with the loss of their love ones, their health, job loss, no money, limited income and the list keeps going on and on. Therefore, trying to find ways to help cope with these challenges someone began the Verzuz Battle. This was a great idea. Not only was it a distraction from the worries but it also gave the opportunity for the younger generation to hear this beautiful music. It's not about winning the battle because their all winners.
Love this song! This was my favorite episode from A Different World. I went out and bought the album so I could have this song after it aired back in the day.
Gladys Gladys 💕 2024

How I wish that we had more classy and stylish black women in the music industry now like Gladys Knight ✨
I heard this song on a episode of different world.❤❤❤❤😊😊😊
Right...nowadays it's all about who can twerk the best & show the most skin possible. Coming across more & more women with very low class these days.
The Calloway Brothers with that Casanova percussion sound.
2024 I’m still listening 🎉
Gladys Knight was 43 when this was released and looked so gorgeous. Class lasts forever
She still is !

Wow! I thought she was much younger than that!
Why do ppl think 43 is old & we are supposed to look old & decrepit??? I'm 43 & I still look & feel youthful.. old is like 65 or 70! 😂
@@deannadd1985 43 isn't old! I'm 43 & far from old 😂
I don't care what people say, because I love you so much!
"A Different World" brought me here.
I LOVE that Dawnn Lewis and Jasmine Guy were her backup singers in that episode! 😊🤎🖤🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵
That episode was as funny as it was entertaining.
GLADYS WAS AS BEAUTIFUL AS ALWAYS.. HER VOICE IS LENGENDARY AND THE PIPS WAS HAVING WAY TOO MUCH FUN

I still remember that too. I remember the next day in school my gym teacher even said New Edition should've won the award.
And the American Music Awards. She beat out Salt-N-Pepa and the boys from Bean Town.
I AM ALL FOR THE EVOLUTION OF MUSIC, BUT I CANNOT LET THIS ERA GO! MAN I LOVE IT!! SING GLADYS, GIRL, SING!!!!!!
🎼 I am so crazy about this song that I bought the 12" single and the 3" compact disc single as well. And I am still watching this video in 2024! 🎵🎶

no idea why but I used to LOVE this song when it came out. LOL I bought the record and played it over and over.
It was a time when singers actually had to have the ability to sing to be able to call themselves singers.
Except dionne Warwick lol
THE 4TH SON, #FACTS #100
Plenty of singers in the 80s couldn’t sing for shit.
Jonathan Pinson Dionne can sing. Just because she don’t belt out an entire song doesn’t make her a bad singer.
