nice video but frustrating for me as I have waited over 2 years to do this to mine (Mondeo 2.2) and getting it out wasn't bad at all. However I cannot get the turbo and manifold to separate. Have tried heat and hammering and penetrating oil but they won't budge. Have just bought a used manifold and will butcher the original to get them apart. were you tempted to dismantle further by removing the 3 Torx screws to get in at the vanes under the plate

I was and did try but 1 screw started rounding off and I did not want to cause a bigger problem, although come spring\summer i will go back in and take another look at this.

hi@@itsajaaaag just to let you know I got my turbo (well the manifold bit) stripped and cleaned further. Found out the bit with the vanes on it is called the 'nozzle ring'. Anyway I'd advise getting a good T25 (1/4" drive perhaps) and use it with a tiny breaker-bar or sliding-T, instead of using Torx 'Allen keys'. I had 2 manifolds to strip and used the L-shape Torx keys. Was lucky to get 3 screws out of one assy but just one out the other before the heads started rounding internally. I thing the problem with the L-shape keys is that they are curved and you can't put good down-pressure on the screw while trying to crack it loose. If the heads are ruined it would be safe to drill then off as there are short collars at the other side so when you have removed all the bits there is still a lot to grab to remove the remains of the screw

looks like yours has already been drilled/tapped and sealed with a bolt at far end. Ppl do this so they can squirt oven-cleaner in to clean it instead of removal/dismantle but I'm not sure that approach does a proper job

EDIT: just watched the earlier video (summer 2022, with the Mr Muscle). I take it that was just a short-term solution? You can see from the dismantled unit how much carbon was still on it

Yes correct, It did work but coked up again, hence me removing it.
