This machine was my 4th quarter project for my drafting class at school. I have that class between 2-3 periods every day, and I got to work on it for the entire class time. Even still, it took me about 6 weeks to put the entire machine together.

Ok my third comment: OH MAH GAHD this machine! This is easily, for me, your best project ever. The wedge section was super creative for such a tough material to incorporate, especially the trick where the K'NEX lever split the two balls different ways. The mousetrap section at the beginning was also sweet, and I loved how the machine ended back at the start with the first tracks flipping up. The part where the K'NEX motor unscrewing the washers and allowing them to fall was one of my favorites. I can't express into words how awesome that idea was. The trick with the bike wheel was sick! I thought about doing something like that once but I never made it happen, so it was cool to see a trick like that in a better fashion than what I probably would've done. All in all, after I've wrote a too-long comment that basically said I liked every trick ever, just know that this is my favorite video of yours ever! Great work!
Thank you so much! This is the kind of comment that I couldn't WAIT to get from you guys! I'm really glad you liked it, but I don't think this is my best machine yet. Size does not equal complexity, so for me, my best machine is still the Super Bowl 50 machine. WAAAAAY more complicated tricks in that one, and it represents my style more. But thank you anyway, it means a lot!
+jackofallspades98 I agree that size doesn't equal complexity. True. I think this is your best machine, however, because of the creative uses for foreign objects and the way you were able to apply tough simple machines like screw and wedge. Super Bowl 50 machine is a close second.
+TheVarietyGuy Yeah I guess you're right. I think foreign objects tend to be more impressive to people than my typical building style.

Hahaha thanks! Actually, I would say that one of my more recent machines (see the Bet-Losing Machine!) would be the most difficult machine of all time (or at least that I've made). And yes! Since all the machines are combined into one functioning machine, this chain reaction would technically qualify as a complex machine. Thanks for the comment!

Nice job, this is a good example of controlled chaos. I love how each ball and marble has a closed space to fall into after they've rolled down tracks and everything. It really adds to the cleanliness of the machine when there isn't a bunch of stuff rolling around.
Thank you so much for noticing that! I put a ton of work into controlling where the balls go, even after they've served their purpose and triggered the next step. I had to prevent the balls from rolling off the table because for one, it would be distracting, but two, they would bounce all over the place and get lost very easily. Luckily, because of how much effort I devoted to this, I didn't lose a single ball! Pretty good I think!

This is beautiful. You represented the simple machines in a not simple machine. Some of my favorite tricks were the unwinding of the bolt at 1:24 and the big wheel trick. This is crazy good and definitely your best machine yet. Keep it up!
All of class (5K) enjoyed this. 10/10 We used it in our science lesson on levers and pulleys.

I just showed this video to my grades 4-6 physics class (part of a home school co-op). We just finished our unit on simple machines. They loved it and wanted to watch it twice. Well done!
This makes me so happy! Thank you so much for doing this, it really means a lot to me. My ultimate goal when I made this machine was that it would be used by teachers to teach about the 6 simple machines. This is actually the first comment I've gotten saying that a teacher has actually used my video, so I'm very happy that my goal is now a reality.
The fact that your students wanted to watch it twice is so awesome! I'm glad I was able to demonstrate a topic in a way that is visually interesting and entertaining, while also being educational and useful in physics lessons. Again, thank you so much. It really was a lot of fun to watch. And my students (ages 8-11) were all very impressed by how long it must have taken you to set it up. While watching it, I had them (verbally) identify the types of simple machines as they appeared. I do hope this video catches the attention of other teachers, too!
singwisevocals Oh wow! That's so cool! I believe there are around 13-15 intentional examples of the simple machines, but you could argue that there are upwards of 20. (Even more if you consider that technically, every orange track is a type of inclined plane...)

By far the best machine you've ever built, and also the most professional. There wasn't a single impurity and everything was so easy to follow. You also used foreign objects, which is pretty cool. Extremely well done in the end. I knew your work would look better with more than one table. Also, nice use of my direction changer trick :)

Really liked this one. And kudos to your teachers/professors for allowing you to do this.
I like the touch of using drafting/mechanical items for some of the foreign objects.
I also really appreciate your filming and editing to give us both the single shot through, and the screen link. Makes it much easier to appreciate all the trips. :-)

Silly Drizzy Thanks so much! I was glad I got to include some of those drafting objects in addition to the simple machines, like the circle template, the triangular rulers, and the white drafting board (the one that tilts). So glad you liked the filming of it too. I always think that a single-shot version is much more in tune with what a machine should be, but it can be difficult to see/understand some of the tricks, so I wanted to get good angles of everything as well. I'm so happy you liked the video!

this is AWESOME! I loved the mousetrap signs, screw, and all the foreign objects with creative uses! It all looked so neat and planned out (probably because it was lol)
It was less cramped than usual and I liked it! I think you should really consider branching out to doing more of these multi table projects in the future!
For my homemade machines, I'm going to stick to single-table machines for the time being. I enjoy the challenge of building as complicated as I can in as small of a space as possible. For this machine, there weren't really any challenging things to build. But if I ever do a project for a company, or another on-site machine like this one (and the ISM:WE one), I will make it in this multiple-table, spread out style.
Also, I'm glad you liked the mousetrap trick! By the way, what did you think of the beginning/end? Did you think I came up with a decent beginning and a decent goal, like we were talking about?
And about the foreign objects, I'm afraid to admit that I'm actually pretty proud with what I was able to come up with, especially the screw trick and the lightbulbs.

wow, things took a step beyond with the very last lightbulb movement, it split into two events at that point, with one event pausing.
This was was awesome! I loved the bike wheel trick. How many fails? And also how many steps?

Amazing job! Really an incredible machine. I work with middle schoolers on a Rube Goldberg contest and the students get extra points for incorporating the six simple machines into their machine. I'm wondering if you could do a video, explaining the six machines and then giving examples that you use in your machines - maybe just pull out clips from existing video and slow them down. Keep me posted if you decide to do it or if you're aware of good reference materials for the students. Keep up the good work.
Kelly Wesolowski I was actually considering doing this, but I do have a lot of other things going on right now, with college taking up a lot of my time. If I do end up making a companion video for this that explains all the uses of each simple machine, I will let you know, but for now I'm not planning on it. Sorry!

This might be a weird tutorial to suggest, but if you're doing the tutorials, I feel like it would be really cool to see how to make the mousetrap devices at the beginning!
That's actually a really good suggestion for a tutorial. It was a tough design challenge to come up with a way to stop the arm on the mousetrap from rotating all the way, and stopping halfway instead. I think I came up with a really good design that works well, and I think this could be a good technique to do a tutorial for. I'll keep this in mind. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hi, I thought the video was pretty interesting and informative for students who are learning about the six simple machines. But, as a teacher, I have a helpful suggestion: I think it would be amazing if you could put the name of each simple machine that is being displayed before or during the demonstration of that machine, to help viewers understand which machine is which. Great job though!
The simple machines are organized by section, in the order of the title sequence at the beginning. Not quite what you're saying, sure, but figured I'd point that out if you hadn't noticed. But thank you! Glad you found this helpful and enjoyable!

Absolutely incredible. Love the windmill, the screw trick, the stencil trick, the spinning wheel track and the sign revealers. Definitely your best machine without a doubt, and now one of my new personal favorite machines :D! I can tell a lot of work went into this, and it definitely paid off.

Best machine ever! Did the large amount of space give you the kitters, did it affect how you approach design at all? I would list what I thought was cool, but I mean that would be like listing every note in a song as cool....I really enjoyed the length and tricks of this one. It is a fine visual song!
Thank you so much! To be honest, the size of this machine was a bit intimidating, but it definitely would have been even more intimidating if I hadn't made a plan before building. Since I had the plan, I didn't have the stress of thinking of what ideas to include on the spot, or whether there would be enough space, etc. I could just focus on building (more or less) what was in my plans.
