18 years ago I took my lottery ticket to a lotto retailer in one of metro stations in Toronto. That Indian guy took my ticket and he told me “I didn’t win anything”, I asked my ticket back and he refused to give it back with a lame excuse. I was a new comer then and I didn’t know my rights. It’s possible I walked away from a bigwin because in years I heard that many lotto retailers became millionaires by confiscating people’s tickets illegally. If that’s what happened to me, I wish eternal bad luck for those who is responsible!

You cannot "validate" a lottery ticket on a phone app. You can check it but you cannot validate it. A ticket can only be validated on a lottery terminal at an authorized lottery retailer.
