FILM DESCRIPTION:
Loosely based on the 1958 comedy The Reluctant Debutante starring Sandra Dee, the family-friendly comedy What a Girl Wants features popular Nickelodeon teen star Amanda Bynes in her first feature-starring performance after her debut in Big Fat Liar. She plays teenager Daphne Reynolds, who lives in New York City with her musician mother, Libby (Kelly Preston). After she turns 17, Daphne is undecided about her future, so she takes off by herself to London in search of her father. She immediately meets cute musician Ian (Oliver James) before sneaking in to her father's estate to surprise him. He turns out to be Lord Henry Dashwood (Colin Firth), a fabulously wealthy aristocrat who doesn't even know that she exists. He had met her mother in Morocco and the two were married in a tribal ceremony. Upon their return to England, she left him and went back to the U.S. without ever revealing that she was pregnant. Ian was just hurt & disappointed that Daphne changed so much only to fit in with the rest of the family. she lost her sense of direction and Ian didn't understand why she suddenly acted so stiff & not like herself. i wouldn't want to date someone who changes like that too. he didn't force her, she came to the conclusion on her own.
@@zuzannabrzeszczak1578 Couldn’t have said it better myself. He fell for the real Daphne, the carefree Daphne. Not the Daphne that changed over night trying to fit in. Honestly the best thing I guy can do in this situation is take a step back to help her see that this is not her. Don’t try to support her changing who she really is because that is not her. And you’re not doing her any favors supporting her forcing herself to fit in.

This film is so similar to my own experience, except I was from England coming in to the American family. (And no rich father 😅). The women were quite similar. I wish I had the guts at that age (I was 19) to speak up. Unfortunately I am an introvert so these thing are a bit more difficult for me.

Honestly THIS to me was Amanda Bynes BEST movie.~ Well you know before she.....lost herself.....cause it was her awkward self that made me love her. I had a stepsister who had major daddy issues and legit hated me all because my dad chose to still be in my life even though he remarried. She liked my brother no problem but she hated me, this brings back too many memories lol
The only reason that would happen is because your stepmother was terrible as well or didn't foster a good relationship between her offspring and the new extended family.
