- Mr. Mixer specializes in the restoration and cleaning of KitchenAid and other brand mixers. For this piece, his client tried to take one apart and clean it themselves but weren't able to, so they brought it to him. He'll take out all the parts, remove all the built-up grease, clean the gears in a degreasing-solution tank, and put it all back together with new grease to help the gears run smoothly.

Homer Simpson drool😂
now why did you have to describe it like that?

My Kitchenaid is from 1969. It's still works perfectly but I can tell it needs a bit of love.
I'm abit afraid to attempt to take it apart but I think I will. I had no idea about re-greasing them. I am sure mine needs it.
If I were you I'd get it done professionally.
@@umopepisdn. im thinking I will drive it to this guy. He's not that far...lol
@@DiscoCatsMeow Good idea! 😎
So that's 52 years old grease. Amazing yours still working well.
It's not as difficult as it might seem. There are a few tutorials on YT showing how to do it.
It should be re greased every one or two years.
My kitchen aid is over 30 years old, been passed down 3 time and survived a fire. I had no idea it required yearly or bi yearly maintenance.
it definitely doesn't need to be done every 2 years, unless you use it literally every day. more like 20
It’s cheaply made now. Back when that TOPs was still around, my mom got a kitchen aid and it lasted for 15 years before finally burning out but the gears were still intact.
Lol it doesn't. This is such a hunk of crap. Talk about a racket. Next we'll need to out source wine glass polishing/steaming.
@@Blue_Azure101 mines still going strong after 22 years.
@@87clits the ones now are a complete joke
Y’all calm down, it’s just grease, it makes the mixer run faster. it’s similar to how there is lubricant on drills to make the mechanism run smoother
It’s still nasty tho
And it can mix to the ingredients or something
So like changing oil of a car. 🤔
@@Wolfybee123 almost every gear set ever has some form of oil or grease. Without lubricant the lifespan would be extremely sort...
@@passivenootmare2253 it won’t. If it somehow did, the grease is NSF accidental food contact certified safe.
Can't believe that a kitchen mixer have so much grease in it
Yeah it’s a pretty bad design the top could be incased into a complete sealed compartment. Leaking oil is not good. It’s cheap at the top.
That's why they last a long time of abuse in professional kitchens.
The grease keeps it cool and lubed.
Its the same in all good mixers. I need to get my Granny's 1964 Hamilton Beach down and service it. Sewing machines need the same care done for their gearboxes.
@@scotthopkins7711 its grease not oil, grease doesnt leak
My mother bought a Kenwood Chef way back in the late 50s. She loved to cook and used it every single day both to process food while cooking meals and to bake for the afternoon tea. In time, also we, my sisters and I started to cook and bake using the machine. Years passed and we all got married and had children and my mother still used the same machine to prepare our children's meals, shakes and whatever it was they wanted to eat when visiting her.
When she and my father in the 80s had to move to a more age appropriate house, the machine followed them. When they passed (89 and 96 years old), one of my sisters kept the machine, very old but still in working condition. I never heard that the Kenwood Chef needed to be serviced or repaired. Ever. That machine was a part of my childhood's house and a part of my mother like a hand or an arm.
I had never thought about the inside of my mixer until now. Good to know!
Good to see something being repaired, instead of replaced.
How to professionally clean his parts washer ; next idea.
This is one of those videos that I watch and think "Oh, yeah. I could do that." Then I have to talk myself out of doing it until something else distracts me.
id just take it to a certified maintenance store or something
nice SCRATCH you did to that persons machine at 1:52! great job.
My thoughts too. And the level of "cleaning" is terrible.
2:32 mmm cream cheese bagel

I busted mine grinding some very old pork fat. My bad. Tore it apart, ordered parts and of course food grade grease and rebuilt it. 100s of lbs of grinding later she’s still in service. It ain’t magic.
If Monica was cleaning these things she would clean them twice and make them cleaner than a new one
And she also will do it for free.
Who’s Monica?
Monica from the tv show f.r.i.e.n.d.s
Luvin' the background music!
I find these kinds of videos very satisfying as I am a germophobe lol
Good Job Insider😊💜
The parts washer could do with a clean :)
Love this 💗
Jeez! I've had mine for 20yrs.....I wonder what it looks like.
Same! My granny got the one i use in 1964 🤣
One word “satisfying”
I’ve had my kitchen aide classic since 2010 . Haven’t replaced the grease yet . I need to . Still going strong 💪 though .
Why is this so entertaining to watch? Honestly the music is jus the icing on the cake, pun intended 😉
Wish this was uploaded when I had to repair my stand mixer
I would totally take a dab of that
This video is misleading, to the point where I'm wondering if it's just an advertisement for this guy's business. They say the grease turned black from food content but if you watch how these mixers are made, the original grease is black to begin with. Also, it says the gearbox is sealed so I don't understand how food would be getting in it?
Hopefully the food grade grease this guy is using is appropriate for the application, the OE grease is dark like a moly grease, or something with lots of anti wear additives. It shouldn't matter about being food grade since its sealed. Just some thoughts, clearly this guy has business regardless
Usually white grease is food grease. I worked with it a lot.
As a side note to anyone reading this, my gf just got a kitchenaid professional 600 that is defective out of the box. The power switch only works 3/4 of the time and the gears are extremely loud, easily twice as loud as my mom's pro 600 that is now 7 years old. Maybe kitchenaid quality is slipping? Anyone with any input please feel free to leave a reply.
@@thedude808 Our 600 does precisely that too - but it’s previously used so I assumed it had taken some serious wear making bread. It was bestowed upon us when a friend moved overseas. I would say it can’t be more than 10 years old.
I’m grateful to have it, but I have coated myself and half the kitchen more than once due to the switch not kicking in until I had it set on high speed.
Now I usually remember to move it one level, then wait to see if it kicks on, before moving it any further - and if it doesn’t kick on by the third notch, turn it back off and try again.
I’ve even worn earplugs while using it because that noise does not agree with me. (But a lot of noises bother me).
If I remember correctly, my former partner’s kitchen-aid, which may have been a 600- looks the same. Was also slow to start when moving the switch, but less so than this one.
I'd imagine the original grease would be H2 or H1 grease, not just random engine oil or something. Maybe that's what he's using?
I work on one of the assembly lines where these things are made. It is white grease that we use, and lots of it. I agree that the video is misleading. There's no way food is getting into the gear case.
Very Cool!!
I low-key thought it said Kool Aid mixer at first 😂
How does one get in touch with someone who does this work?
Its like cleaning earwax
its clean already
Wish the videos were longer.

A grease pick. You mean an iFixit metal spuger😂
Yo anyone knows what song is used in the vid?
A cookie monster was inside! 🍪
WOW 😳.. I would love for you to clean mine
OK but how do you take it apart? 🤯
Is it just me or this has those weird earwax cleaning video vibes thats very strangely satisfying?
Grease doesn't leak. And the bearing is sealed. No need of food safe lubricant. Just use some good quality grease.
Mine is about 25 yrs old; I don't use very much, but it bogs down when I use it to mix cookie dough mix. Maybe it needs a tune up!?
Didn’t even know they got that nasty. I don’t have one but nice to know if I ever decide to get one
How did all that chocolate icing get inside the mixer?
Yum 💖
Help! My older model Kitchenaid stand mixer that hadnt been used in years was clearly leaking oil and making a bit of a grinding noise so I carefully took it apart , cleaned and regreased it. NOW IT WONT TURN ON! Yikes. I didn't unnecessarily touch any wires (it is possible i got the overload switch wires reversed though) and what I can see of the motor and wires etc looks intact and clean. Any help and suggestions are really appreciated!!!
What is the right amount of grease? I can’t seem to find an exact quantity for my mixer.
Are there professional cleaners for the sinks of professional cleaners? He needs one.
I noticed that too ugh 😩
And how does he dispose of all that filthy water/cleaner?
The part that bother me the most is need to re grease every one or two years? That's too short....
Why do I feel like that grease would taste yummy. It just looks so chocolaty.
Hi there,
I am in Toronto, where do I buy parts for artisan?
It can't be done without gasmask
Never using a kitchen aid again! 😀😀
Yea... Kinda understand how it needs the grease to protect and run the gears, also how food industry (factory) equipments already uses this type of grease. But seeing that black tar thingy is something. Apparently there are also many cases where it leaks out...
.-.
@F. Aduke Femi-Babalola Yep, hence why the “food industry equipment already uses this type of grease”. Kitchenaid usually uses H1 grease, which means small amounts of contamination to the food is okay
Im aware that it’s food safe, but the degraded grease still looks a bit repulsive. Sorry if it’s not clear enough ._.
Smeg mixer! I need help! Has anyone come across a video of the machine taken apart? If yes, share? I want to see what it looks like inside! thanks
The forbidden fudge!
My mixer does this, I start using it and I get a oil /grease leak by the spindle.
About how often should we have this done?
Every one to two years as the vidio said at the end
Why drill out the hole?
I didn't know people clean these to this extent.
The grease looks like Vegimtite ngl
That’s just a micro spatula, not a grease pick.
How often do we need this done?
Every 1-2 years
When we cleaned our equipment that was grease heavy. We ran it through a hot solution to degrease it
It actually needs that much grease on it to function?
They are designed to function without regressing for 10 plus years. The amount of grease used is normal.
The fact that this is on Art Insider-
Wow baking ingredients have mixed with all the grease in my truck to make it black and tacky!
But what and why did he need to drill a hole?
Im surprised this is the first comment about this part. I was screaming why when I saw that part
its just a pin and it seemed very stuck so drill it out and replace it!
Damn really good at your job but I’m pretty sure that’s like a rich person problem who can afford one of those can’t even afford the food put in one of those
They aren't worth that much..I mean I paid twice as much for my cellphone then a kitchen aid mixer and the mixer has already latest 10 years...
I bought a 1940-50 era mixer w/attachments for 25 bucks at an auction. It runs like a tank. But like a car there’s moving parts that need proper maintenance and lubricant. I see them at goodwill and thrift stores everywhere. They’re always at auctions. They are expensive brand new but last if you buy one. I hate buying new appliances too.
First it doesn't look that bad and second by the time it would need this I'd buy a new one.
Cheaper to service it than to buy new and replace a perfectly good working machine.
The Classic and Artisan models these days are made with plastic gearing, while the older ones all have metal gearing.
BRB I’m making forbidden gravy
Mr Mixer needs to wear rubber gloves because it's a messy job!
Chocolate if you’re brave enough
Oh no, mine's not cleaned for 20 years already
....that's what's in my mixer???

*Forbidden caramel*
This is the sort of video designed to spur people into spending time or money or both on doing something.
2 years? Ive had nine for 10 😲
Oh my g a w d
Considering how overpriced KitchenAid products are they shouldn't require Depot level maintenance every "1 to 2 years".
Dark choco cake batter
His parts washer needs a wash
Honestly it seems like he just regressed them not cleaned them
Seriously?
I mean
Seriously?
@@beedoubleu547 seriously what?
Exactly
🙌👍👏
that's a lot of chocolate
Actually disappointed, I thought deep cleaning would show me some shiny stuff, not a dirty sink and a guy just scraping grease, clean the residue also

After watching this i feel like not using my mixer
The gearbox is sealed. The grease can't actually get to your food.
other people: ew so gross!
me: *woah poop inside the mixer? nice*
Plot twist:
Kitchen aid stock just went up after people watched this video because they are out buying new ones with food safe grease!
Cheaper to buy a new one every 2 years
Nope
Iew
Professional!? Lol
That sink is NASTY

Nasty
How is this art tho?
Can you please explain how x amount of sealed gear grease can “build up " and cause wear and tear on the parts? The gear grease is sealed separately from any interaction with food or ingredients if you're having leaking grease the seal has failed. The food has NOT migrated against gravity upward snuck past a seal to “contaminate" the lubricant. To remove all the grease and replace it with different colored Grease is a pointless operation particularly if no parts have failed. You can, but it's completely pointless. it's not brown because it's filled with contaminants it's brown because, it's Grease.
This is disingenuous at best.
What type of lubricant did you replace it with and is it food safe?
You must have been drunk when you made this video because it's asked backwards from ending to beginning
I would just never buy this expensive headache. Walmart got mixers for $5 so I could buy enough for my lifetime with how much these people are spending on these mixers and then spending money to keep them working is insane...
i don’t care
then don’t watch-
But you care enough to comment 🤔
yea well I dont give a shit about your opinion either PAUL
