I just want to share knowledge because I learn a lot from videos and I'm a visual learner myself. I never know what people think of the videos because there are so few likes and very few comments. I appreciate the feedback very much.

      This is soooo true. Once you can see clearly, you can weld perfectly. I loooooooooove the microscope. If you can afford it, it's well worth the money. The smart phone or tablet screen is a very close second.

    I am new to this (haven't started it yet, just researching about starting up). Do you still need to wear the darkening or safety glasses if you use your cell phone magnification? Similar question regarding your customer - if they want to record, do they wear the glasses? Thank you for your video! This also helps me decide which welder to buy :)

    • @stonesandfindings
      @stonesandfindings  Рік тому +3

      If you are looking through the smartphone screen, you do not need darkening or safety glasses. Your customer won't have infrared eye damage from looking at a couple of zaps. However, having safety goggles for customers to wear is always good optics (pun intended)

    Hi, Dana. Just to clarify, does it mean I don't even have to use a welding eyeglass? If yes, this is absolutely an eye saver. You're such a genius!

    • @stonesandfindings
      @stonesandfindings  2 місяці тому +2

      Yes, exactly. You don't need to wear darkening glasses if you look through a smart phone/tablet screen. The trick is that you lose depth perception with a screen. Look at the electrode and secure placement just a little bit away from where you want to weld - before you weld. THen look behind the screen and move in to weld. Yes, it is an eye saver. ALso, if your eyesight isn't very good, you can set your screen on magnification.
      You should also ask your clients if they want to film the process. 2 birds with one stone! THey get to post and tag you on the platform and they don't have to wear protective darkening glasses (less to disinfect!).

      You've made my December with your comment!!! I dream up little hacks and ideas while vacuuming, showering,...all the time, to a point of being accused of being a frazzle brain. Often when I share my ideas that I'm totally excited about, people look at me like I'm crazy. I've stopped pitching ideas to people for feedback and prefer to film so I can avoid seeing the confusion or boredom in their facial response. I also film alone for the same reason. It is always energizing when I get this kind of encouragement. Thank you for watching and especially for this comment. And agreed - Sunstone should sell loc-line camera arms. I love the idea.

      I am so happy to read this. I love the welder and what it can do, beyond permanent jewelry - that's why I bought it years ago. However, I also struggled at the beginning. Now as my eye sight is going (argh, eye roll), it's slowly becoming an issue with reading and doing intricate things. I am just pleased that i can help others while I find solutions for myself. Thank you for this note. I find it very encouraging.

    How amazing !!!! Thank you very much . That is exactly my issue that I need magnifying glasses for making my jewelry and this will fix my issue. Does it ever becomes an issue where it is more challenging to do it and access the jumping or chain to zap it?

    • @stonesandfindings
      @stonesandfindings  Рік тому

      You are so welcome! It does become more of an issue when you're trying to zap anklets or necklaces in permanent jewelry. I find that we do so few of them that we can just wear tinted safety glasses and stick our faces up close, if we can't find a friend to hold the phone for us. That and trying to zap after a few glasses of wine.

    • @stonesandfindings

      no, I filmed without argon gas. You can certainly do the same with argon gas and there is far less oxidation (brown soot around the weld) if you use argon gas.

    Excellent suggestion - But PLEASE put a sheet of Plexiglass or equivalent in front of the phone lens or you wilil eventually pit the lens from flying molten metal ( You can guess how I know that......)

    • @stonesandfindings
      @stonesandfindings  Рік тому

      really? From micro welding? or from welding??? I have been using their micro welder for years - way before permanent jewelry was a thing. I have never had flying molten metal flying anywhere. However, I know traditional welding has that danger.

      Let me say thank you again for the great idea. I have been using an "other" brand i.e. from Amazon for a few months.
      I am trying to weld 1/8 inch brass tubing to sheet brass. I am using fairly high power setting. I put an autodarkening lens on my microscope and it is about 2 inches from the weld. it is definitely getting some pitting. I tried to post a reply with a link to a picture, but I do not see my reply, perhaps UA-cam did not like a link. Iwill post this and then another post with just the link

    • @stonesandfindings
      @stonesandfindings  5 місяців тому +1

      I've read mixed reviews on safety issues and people are upgrading from some out there - so they don't have much good to say either. Sorry I can't help much here. I would go and research through reviews in focus groups. THat might be your best bet. If you're doing permanent jewelry, I would think about liability issues. It is much better if you buy from a maker with deep pockets who will cover lawsuits if something goes wrong.
      If you are just welding finished jewelry and won't come into contact with any clients who might get injured, then any online welder with decent reviews should work. Good luck.
