***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

Handy dandy tip when you are filling up a zip lock bag. Roll down the zip portion, put the baggie in a bowl in standing position and you can just rake the stuff from other bowl into it without any mess. Easy peasy. Then unroll and edges are clean for a better seal.
Good idea, I cook multiple batches of food and it's a mess getting it into bags.
@@martytrout6252 Amazon has a holder for baggies. It holds all sizes and is very helpful. Merry Christmas!
Its sad that something so simple needs to be explained. I see many people have no common sense. Glad you where able to help others today. I see shortcuts with ease.
I roll down all my bags edges down when packing up meat or veggies and use a cheap plastic glove on one hand as we have a spring for water. We use only 10 gallons of water per day if that, so we save water as much as possible here.
I'm absolutely convinced there is nothing that Kevin can't do. He is the epitome of "Jack of all trades" and has mastered them all! 😁
My dad & brother can do everything too. We’re from Northern IL. I think it’s in the Midwesterners’ DNA maybe 🤔
Hope Henry is doing well. Happy holidays to you all.
SO interesting, here in South Africa we dry meat (mostly beef) and we call it Biltong. It is also soaked in a similar brine, cut into big strips and then hung up in a cool, well ventilated space or cupboard to air dry up to the consistemcy you like it. It is a staple snack here and nobody goes anywhere without their Biltong or dried sausage. Only after it is dried do we cut it into slices, so the meat chunks are dried in cooler weather or cool cupboard. Game meat is done the same way, we very seldom do other meat than beef or game
"Bacon" was my first thought ;-)
Perfect reason to buy a dehydrator...
Happy Holidays!
I remember the first time I had venison jerky. I was about 10. I had never heard of it before. Growing up in the fifties and sixties in Northern New York, one of five children of an iron ore miner, venison was a staple and was either fried or canned. The jerky was a real treat.
Good try on the sauce pronunciation Kevin, in England where it comes from we just call it Wooster sauce, we don't bother with the shire part at the end. We only say the shire part when we are talking about the county of Worcestershire then it's simply Woostersha.
It’s delicious but contains anchovies so folks who have allergies need to stay away!
@@scrapykat3028 You can check your ingredients on the bottle. Some brands have stopped using any anchovies.
@@animistchannel2983 was just about to say this. I can’t stand anchovies, so I buy a brand without.
I had to pause the video because I thought the coyote was in my front yard. And nothing. Then started the video back and you explained the sound on your side. Very funny. Had to tell my husband.
We just brought the same Smoker. Husband doing a Pork. Tenderloin. Now. We do Salmon. And we cold smoke cheese. He loves to cook and canning Merry Merry Christmas from Dartmouth Nova 🇨🇦😍😍😍
I bought a dehydrator 3 months ago I have made jerky every weekend. LOVE THAT STUFF!!!
i came for a quick look to see how i might do a turkey if i get one this spring, and i got such a better video than i was expecting. years down the road this will still be used. thanks for an informational, straightforward, and helpful video where you showed more than one way to do this. there are channels that get paid big bucks and have deals and sponsors that don’t even come close to as quality of a video as y’all did here. again, THANK. YOU.
In the UK we say Worcester (wooster) sauce. A shire is like you say County. Not needed unless addressing a letter.
Kevin that looks so good. God bless y’all.
Thanks for making it look so easy! I know I could do that in my dehydrator and I love the extra step in the oven. That'd make me feel best, especially as a newbie. But, you make me want to buy a smoker. I loved your other videos with it and when you first replaced it. Thanks for bringing such great content!!! Y'all help me be a better and more confident cook. 😁💗👍
MERRY CHRISTMAS, may you have a BLESSED DAY !!!
'Wuss ta sheer Sauce' is how we say it in the UK! Always excited to see a new video up, makes my day! Happy Holidays to all the family! XX
Waited to hear about Henry. Is he OK? EDIT they answered someone at the bottom and said Henry is hanging in there.
Hoping they would have said something if he wasn’t...
@@Shanmammy Indirectly, it's turkey jerky.
Who's Henry? I missed this.
@@sarahmichaels2117 Henry is the calf that their milk cow Faith had. The two videos before this let you know what they know is wrong with him.
@@delarahmoore104 Thank you! I missed watching the videos. 😊
Jerky making is always part of our holidays too! It sure is a treat!
Fry the skin separate.. makes a great snack.
I became Henry this week.I had a procedure that let air into my peritoneal cavity. So they put a tube into my side to let the air out after a couple of days. I told him the story about Henry. They were surprised to hear that they do that to animals
Lisa Smith 🥺🌷So sorry to hear you had to go through that. I said a prayer for you just now. God bless you abundantly and bless your 2021 with perfect health and tons of happiness‼️
Once you have your orchard you can use prunings to smoke with. I supply friends with lots of fruitwoods.
Good morning to Living Tradition Homestead and all others too! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone. Enjoy and stay safe. Nice dish set. All the sweets making me want sweets.
I've been following your channel since last summer, and I've enjoyed it so much! As a matter a fact, I've gotten my family into watching it too! Thanks for all of your genuine, pleasant, homey videos!
I love that row of hanging cast iron pans, what a nice display
Is Henry doing ok? Our family has been praying for him to pull through.
Well here in England it is "Woostersher", as you said, and your cows would be "hair-er-fud" named after the county of Herefordshire (hair-er-fud-sher). I made your cookies for Christmas last year! Merry Christmas to you all.
You have no idea how excited I get when you guys post!! 😊😊
Me too. Congratulations on being the first post. Happy Holidays!
Same!
A great way to start the weekend!
Amen! me too
I know this goes without saying, but how cool is it that your mom and dad live there now. Hope you have a wonderful holiday. Merry Christmas!🎄
Hey Kevin! Thanks for the healthy alternative! Can't wait to try it.
I agree...great alternative to many (too many) sweets and because I now have to be gluten free, this is perfect. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas.
This is so simple. I definitely will try this. Thanks for showing us the way!
Merriest Christmas wishes to your family and all your animals, so enjoy following your homestead and have learned so much, thanks for sharing, blessings to all!
This looks like a yummy project! Thank you both for all the content you guys share with us. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and all your family. 🙏💕🥂🎄💞
Merry Christmas to All. Hope Henry is doing better. Keeping you all in my Prayers. Lv Turkey Jerkey.
Merry Christmas to all! Glad to hear Henry's hanging in there, praying for improvement.
Can't wait to get home and make some jerky. It looks delicious, wonder what would happen if you tried to freeze dry it.
We just picked up a freeze dryer and headed home to try freeze drying ice cream sandwiches. You made it look so good we decided to take the plunge and splurge for Christmas. Wish us luck. Pretty soon everything in the house will be in jars.
The smoked and the regular brined Turkey jerky looks yummy! 😋
Thanks for sharing how you make it with us.
Wow I love love love your cast iron collection. I’m working on mine. Thank you for sharing the TJ recipe. Be blessed. Be safe. Wish you all a very Merry Christmas.
Looks delicious. How is Henry doing? Merry Christmas
I can see George Constanza must of been in the neighborhood pedalling Tee-shirts. Great vid on jerky.
I use to swear by Pink Himalayan salt, until I tried Redmond’s Real Salt. It’s harvested from the ancient fine sea salt in Redmon Utah
Good morning on this beautiful Sunday morning. Those that makes their own jerky will really enjoy this video, you are really informative.Sure looks tasty. Hope Henry and all is doing well. God bless ,all.
Thanks for this great idea. Going to have to make some! Merry Christmas!!!
My dad made fish jerky from bream fillets one time. Delicious!
Thank you Kevin and Sarah for sharing your life with us! You are the highlight of my week! Take care and God bless!
Why don't you guys make homemade Brown sugar??
Light brown sugar
1 cup of white granulated sugar add 1 tblsp molasses cut together
Dark brown sugar
1 cup of white granulated sugar add 2 tblsp molasses cut together
Store in air tight containers....
I use black strap molasses, but you can use any molasses.
I've never had it go hard on me and I mix it up at big batches at a time or mix it up as needed.. easy peasie
You'll never go back to store bought again...,
Sounds great!
I've never heard of this I love it. I'm definitely going to try it. Can I make this with white sugar and molasses?
When she is saying sugar in the recipe that is what she means. Brown sugar is just a combination of white sugar and molasses
@@natalialopes719 you use white granulated sugar and combine it with molasses
Ok, and for what do you need that?
Thank you Kevin. I enjoyed watching this process.
Merry Christmas to you all, hope Henry is better.
Love the idea of putting it in the oven!!! Hope Henry is doing better God Bless you and your family from middle GA 🙏 Kendra
Just want to tell you how great you are. I've learned so much from you and want to wish you the Best Christmas ever. Thank you, love you and God Bless you and your family.
It is so sweet to see a man in the kitchen. That jerky looks so good. I sure hope Henry is doin better? Got him in my prayers. GOD BLESS TO EACH AN EVERYONE. B SAFE AN CAREFUL 💞😀😘🙏 HAPPY HOLIDAYS🎄🎅🤶🎀
Thank you for the great info. When they make jerky , they put it a big vacuum tumbler. Try putting it a vacuum bag when you place it in the fridge. The store jerky has the favor throw out and so will yours. God bless.
Kevin, I always enjoy your videos, your enthusiasm reminds me of a favorite nephew of mine! I hope you all decide sometime to give us a small tour of your house, I absolutely love the area you are working in today, is it a that part of your kitchen, your dinning area or maybe a pantry area. Hope to meet your parents too. They did a great job raising you!
Super Video, Kevin! I've made jerky for many years, but I still gleaned some good tips from you. Merry Christmas to you, Sarah, and all yours, my friend. Thanks for all you share with us! 🤠
BEST SHIRT EVER!!! I am actually watching that whole series now.
Just look at all that gorgeous cast iron!!
Thanks Kevin!! Love this! Hope Heney is doing well. Have a great holiday!!
Well i just made this marinade and it’s amazing . I have no smoker so I used 1/2 tsp smoked paprika ! You’re the best !
I just happened to have Turkey breast in my freezer. I'm going to try this. Wow Sarah, love all the cast iron pants. I only have 3.
Cast iron pants 🤣😂🤣 that typo hit my funny bone!!!
🤣 typo is funny
Interesting..love jerky!!
Thanks for posting. Looking forward to seeing you again soon I hope. God bless & Happy holidays to you & yours!! ⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄
Great video, Kevin. Thanks for showing us how to make turkey jerky. You are a good teacher. Now I want to get a smoker or a dehydrator and start making my own. I hope Henry is doing better. Merry Christmas to you, Kevin and Sarah, and your family!
Thank you for the video 😁 I wish you and your viewers a wonderful day!!😁🎄🎄🎄
We Love our Jerky Too. Merry Christmas to you and your Family. Love Yahs
We’re not big sugar eaters but LOVE jerky. I just made about 40 lbs of deer jerky in the dehydrator. I’ve never tried smoking it. I will have to remember this next year. 😊
How’s Henry doing? Praying he’s getting better

Jerky looks delicious. My mouth was watering watching you make it. I used to make it years ago when I had teenage boys at home. Haven’t made it in a long time now though. God Bless & Merry Christmas!
Thank you Kevin for sharing how to make turkey jerky. I’ve been ordering 100.00 dollars worth of turkey jerky every week. It’s getting expensive so I need to start making it myself. I’m going to give this a try. Thanks again!!!🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Where at ??????????????????
Thanks for sharing with us Kevin, looks great 👍👍👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I make jerky every year at Christmas. This year I made a bunch and I'm giving it for presents. All my Grandkids beg me every Fall for it and we were blessed to harvest two deer so far this year.
Thank you for the recipe. I am certain Christmas will be sweeter with your folks there. Merry Christmas. ❄️🎄❄️
I think I'll try it with smoked paprika in the dehydrator. Thank you.
Perfect timing! I just picked up a whole hog from the butcher and had to take my turkey out of the freezer because it wouldn’t fit now. I was going to can it but I think I’m going to make jerky instead. At least with some of it.
Great video! You're so right that jerky doesn't last very long being so delicious and even so, thanks for sharing the good too make it safer for longer storage without adding chemicals.
Wow! I never realized that jerky was so easy to make! Thank you!
Thanks for doing this Kevin. What a great alternative to all the sweets during the holidays. We also grew our own turkeys this year, and my husband's job has given us a coupon for a free 20-24 lb turkey. I'm really looking forward to trying this out! Merry Christmas to you, Sarah and your family.
Venison jerky and pickled fish are must-haves at our house for Xmas. Our grown kids prefer it to sweets. Merry Christmas!
my brother used to make deer jerky, kept my daughter happy! he lives several states away now...thanks for showing the process!
Hi Kevin ~ Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you and your girls! ~ God Bless
Great! We will give this a try for sure! Thank you both and God Bless 🙏
Oh, Kevin! That jerky looks divine! The only thing I'd add to that marinade is some hot pepper flakes or cayenne pepper. Please consider getting a Cosori dehydrator - the one that looks like an Excalibur. They're 1/2 the cost of the Ex - I love mine! It dehydrates so much faster than the round, plastic tray types.
I pray Henry is doing well!!! Oh the yummyness of jerky 😋
Praying for a quick recovery with your ankle in 2022.
Merry Christmas to you and your family as all who watch your videos!
I smoked 3 huge filets of wild salmon last week. It’s almost gone as it is so yummy! Smoked meat is amazing!
Great video Kevin, thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas to you and your family and also to everyone else here. Stay safe and God bless.
Hey y’all hope everyone is doing good and pray Henry is doing better. Merry Christmas to everyone. I wanted to share with y’all that after your video on the freeze dryer my husband ordered ours today, it will not be here until late February or early March because of the high demand now. We are very excited to start learning all that we can, so please share anything that you have learned with us. We also hope that you will do more videos on your experiences with yours. Thanks y’all and once more Merry Christmas and a Blessed and Happy New Year.
Love your recipe. I will definitely try it. The fact that you cook too is awesome.
I want to try this so bad. It looks so good. Merry Christmas everyone.
Thank U so much for showing us how to make Jerky, I've been trying to find a way to make my own & then this morning U show up teaching us how!!! Thank You so much! I can't wait to try it......
I love comparison videos. We have both a smoker and a dehydrator so I think I will give both ways a try because I have some venison that needs processing. Thanks for this great video.
Thank you for the great videos! I just received an electric smoker so I have plans on breaking it in and doing some smoked jerky. You are very helpful. Thanks again.
Looks awesome. Thanks and Merry Christmas. God Bless your family.
I love jerky. I also chop up a couple jalapenos to the brine. So good. Take care. God bless..
candied jalapenos sounds good to add!
Thanks Kevin Love jerky haven't ever tried turkey jerky. That'll have to be one I'll check it out. Merry Christmas to your family and your parents. May God bless
Everything looks so good Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks for showing us the whole process. Works good on deer also!
Thank you for sharing such helpful information, now I feel braver trying to make jerky!!
Blessings to all of you!!
Good morning. If you fold The edges down of your Ziploc baggie it’ll help it stay open and then you don’t get any raw meat on the Ziploc part. Also if you throw your brownie mix into a half gallon jar you can use that to shake up your mix and then throw your turkey in it then you can lay it on its side in your refrigerator and you can actually rotate it instead of having to shake a bag up
Added Henry, to prayer chain🙏❤️👍
Wonderful video about jerky! My son and I love love jerky!
So glad I found this video, my husband has been wanting jerky but it just costs to much to buy. I will have to try this out. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
This is a SUPER AWESOME video Kevin !! Inspires me to go forward to doing it myself. Thank you so much !
I also had an idea: could you and / Sara make a video of how you keep your knives sharp ?
When my grandma who lives with my stepbrother she loves your pans she used to use them when she was live ing at her home in Massachusetts ! She 87 she another a fan of channel!
