Bright Side Titanic Video Review (PART 6)

- Опубліковано 8 вер 2024
- In this video we take a look at another Titanic historical video from Bright Side. Will this video be any more accurate then what came before it? Lets find out.
One slight correction in the video, at 13:25 a photo pops up of 4 men who I say I dont think had anything to do with Titanic or White Star. Turns out they are 4 of the Titanic's officers, the photo is one I have never seen and as a result I didnt recognize the officers in the photo.

Bright Side is like watching a train wreck. It's horrifying, but you can't look away no matter how horrified you are.
🤣🤣🤣 train wreck... as a merchant marine I approved this video. Sam doing a great job holding it together 😁😁
Its more like watching a shipwreck
Clever analogy 🤣
LMAO
I know I can't hardly watch bright side because it seems they get so much wrong 😔 and make it seem like they do not care about the lose of life
Mystery solved. The Titanic sunk backwards because the ship had to sail in reverse after the operators turned the ship around "to hide the coal fire smudge."
See kids? This is the kind of asinine results you end up with when you let insecurities about your appearance get to you! You just gotta go and wear that coal fire smudge with pride!
😂😂😂
@@404findnotnamed Yep!
On April 15th 1915
Thank you for your service Sam! It’s not right for them to spread incorrect history like this and I appreciate you for calling them out
His videos are very informative, amazing job!
He’s not really calling them out, more making fun of them.
Yeah, I agree like if he didn’t post videos about this, I would still be believing lies about bright side
@@tabithalawver7922They don't do research !! I think they got their research " Titanic for Dummies "
@@lisasimmoins4443I love his videos and his content is very very accurate!!!
7 seconds into the Bright video I burst out laughing...and Sam hits "PAUSE"
Time to watch poor Sam in misery. salute him, he's doing this for our entertainment.
🫡
Being a.merchant sailor on.ships hauling coal they do give off heat...and yes does conduct heat. Bulkhead do get warm.. don't for get uss Maine did explode for a coal bunker
I'm laughing ..though at the same time... he is correct... giving the true story I have a book of titanic with that smudge mark. On the stbd side
And make sure we don't have to suffer alone.
WHAT THE FUCK BRIGHTSIDE!?
That "1915" at 4:50 hit me like a brick😭😤 Thank you again for suffering through another one of those videos, Sam! Been a huge fan for a while now, and I truly appreciate everything you've done for the Ocean Liner community⚘️
ChatGPT prompt: "When did Titanic sink?"
Response: "The Titanic sank on April 15, 1912 after hitting an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York City."
It's official, Bright Side is even dumber than a robot.
I just died inside. -100000000000000/10
😂😂😂😂im dead! I about shit myself when I heard them say that
Is that year when Lusitania sank?
The 1915 and then they showed the whole thing catching on fire 😂😂
Sinks backwards in a storm with a bright moon lit night......
That moon again ??? I thought it was a moonless night when the Titanic sank !!!! Titanic sinking backwards?? A classic Bright Side move or is it Aaron1912??
It's getting pretty clear that Bright Side are fans of this series too.
When this started, I thought that Bright Side would make a great drinking game... I quickly realised that there's no survivable way to play such a drinking game.
Just ask me! I didn't survive
Next thing we know, Bright Side is going to talk about how the Titanic sank in 1901, and that the crew was drinking and driving, and they somehow collided into the dorsal plates of Godzilla while he was doing the back stroke.
@Ryuu CPM & Mashup YT then somehow the Titanic sprouted wings and took off into the sky like a giant bird, and PLOT TWIST!!!!!! The Titanic was actually a transformer and the original Titanic never left the dock because the engines didn’t start. And I’m going stop talking right now because I’m derailing and tired. Lol.
Don't give them any ideas.
Don't give them ideas
Actually, that's a pretty good one.
And I think you just gave them an idea.
No, the Nazi's sank the Titanic by blowing up its warp room and the captain grew another head which resulted in Winston Churchill summoning an iceberg to assist the Nazi's in sinking the Titanic! Because we all know that the Nazi Party totally existed in 1912!
Every time Sam posts one of these Bright Side vids, I am extremely worried for his health. This cannot be good for your blood pressure, man 😂 the things you go through to entertain and inform us.
Sam's a Bright Side video survivor.

Yes but I am also worried for my own health watching it

I'm worried about his braincells !!! He'll have a stroke just by watching the Bright Side video !! He'll have a heart attack before he marries his girlfriend
The "repositioning" they were talking about around 19:00 refers to the way the ship was oriented while docked in Southampton. But *spoiler alert* it had nothing to do with the coal fire. When the Olympic was docked there before her maiden voyage, she had been moored with the starboard side to the pier, which required the tugs to pull her into the channel and turn her around before she could get underway. The process proved to be tedious and time-consuming. Because of this, it was decided to orient the Titanic with its port side on the pier, that way when the passengers were loaded, the ship wouldn't have to be turned around and could get underway sooner.
13:23 come on Sam, those are Titanic’s surviving officers. Fifth Officer Harold Lowe, Third Officer Herbert Pitman (sitting down), Second Officer Charles Lightoller and Fourth Officer Joseph Boxhall.
Thought he would have known that 😬
Didn't know that
To be fair, I have never seen that group photo either before and I've seen a lot of Titanic related photographs. Most I've seen have been taken aboard the Titanic.
@@Katoshi_Takagumi it’s a very, very well known photograph. I believe only 1 photo exists of most of the officers actually aboard the Titanic herself and (mostly) together, other photographs show officers separately or in pairs and candidly, but not usually as a ‘staged’ photograph.
@@Savedhistory Probably not many actual photographs which show a larger group of the Titanic officers together, most are actually from the Olympic. There were at least three people taking photographs on the Titanic, Father Francis Browne, Kate Odell and Thomas Barker working for the Cork Examiner. Barker took the last known picture of Captain Smith (with Purser McElroy).
The photo of the 4 men is of the surviving Titanic officers. I recognized Lightoller and Lowe.
Lightoller, Lowe, Third Officer Herbert Pitman, and Fourth Officer Joseph Boxhall
Brightside is going to have to pay for Sam's blood pressure meds 😂

12:40 Hi Sam, just to clarify, the fire did start in Belfast just before they left. It wasn't discovered until they reached Southampton.
thanks, i wasnt sure exactly where it started.

I'd love to join them, but I don't have the time. And it's sad because I've been an amateur historian for 30 years and have a lot to offer. Maybe one day I'll be able to chime in.
They rock !!!
18:26 I have never seen sam freak out like that... You can see the life being sucked out of him lol...
He was turning red lol
He's having a spaz attack !!!
Men on that photo are the four surviving officers from the titanic, Boxhall, Pitman, Lightoller And Lowe. I actually know that when i was planning to play roleplay as Titanic officers during the sinking with my friends and i’ve seen this picture while reaserching XD
EXACTLY
So did officer Murdock kill himself like is depicted in the 1997 movie?
I find it ironic that they can get the cold-air mirage correct, yet totally screw up the binoculars in the crows nest thing lol
To be fair there's another channel with a video that did the same thing. They still kept insisting that binoculars would have helped...
13:42: These are the 4 surviving officers of the Titanic. Cool video by the way :)
I don't know where to begin here with what my favorite part of this video is. It's either the deadpan delivery of this misinformation from Bright Side, or the visual increasing rage Sam has as the video goes on. 🤣 Bless you, Sam. You're the best.
Thank you for once again calling out awful history.
Salute to your sanity XD.

Sam, you are a really good sport for doing these videos. They are so entertaining and it's all because of you. I've learned so much from watching your videos so thank you.
I’m like Oprah in the comments section when a new Historic Travels video; you get an upvote, you get an upvote, EVERYBODY GETS AN UPVOOOOOOTE!!!!!
Sam at the start of every bright side review video: _I had no intention of doing another of these videos..._
I lost it at 27:12 at the random Tarzan noise the passenger made and Sam's reaction!
Sam, you're the kind of young person ( you know you're old when you start using the term, "young person" ) I treasure. You read, study history, and have a rigorous concern for accuracy. You have integrity. It is funny to see you react, but know that the viewers are as appalled as you are. The "2015" shocked me, but a few years ago, I was briefly acquainted with a graduate of a Top Ten law school who was about to go to work for a U.S. Attorney in Georgia. So help me, he knew of only one President who had been assassinated, Kennedy.
10:01, Mike Brady looked into the smudge on his channel not long ago, and concluded it was just a reflection of the dock.
I died laughing with the coal fire explosion
Just a few clarifications that I figured you'd like to know.
1.) That 'spot' on the hull that in that picture most famous for the coal fire theory is actually the reflection of a barge that is next to the hull. You can see the barge next to the ship on the left side of the picture.
2.) The coal fire was reported to have started while the ship was still in Belfast. At least 10 days before the ship left Southampton. So right around her sea trials.
3.) At the time, Board of Trade regulations required any ship weighing more than 10,000 tons to carry 16 lifeboats. Olympic and Titanic exceeded that number by carrying 20.
The black spot where “The Fire was” looks to be around F or E deck, not even on the orlop deck or tank top where the actual coal bunkers were. This means it was either next to third class lavatories or third class rooms. This makes this theory even more improbable.
It is certainly irrelevant, whatever it actually is. However, it helped Molony peddle his book.
The laws concerning the number of lifeboats was made around 1886 when the largest vessel at the time was Cunard's Campania of 12,950 gross registered tons. The regulation only stipulated that a ship of up to 10,000 grt should have 16 lifeboats. Because the trend towards ships that equaled and then exceed greatly 10,000 grt grew exponentially, and nothing was done to change the requirements to account for this trend in building superliners, they were hopelessly outdated by 1912.
And keep in mind, White Star Line did not have to have 20. They only were required to have 16, but they added in the 4 collapsible boats and had installed the Welin davits that could come back to pick up another boat at the same station. Something Carlisle wanted in anticipation of the laws eventually being changed.
Finally, there were actually THREE lifeboat drills, not one. The first and most extensive was overseen by First Officer Charles Lightoller who was conducting the drill for BOT inspector Francis Carruthers as part of the Titanic's trials at Belfast and certification process. All 16 boats were lowered, and of those six were taken all the way to the water.
The second was at Southampton early morning of Titanic's sailing day on April 10 and only involved the lower of just two boats. The now downgraded to Second Officer Lightoller, Third Officer Herbert Pitman, Fifth Officer Harold Lowe and Sixth Officer James Moody conducted the drill with 30-40 able-bodied seamen, ordinary seamen, lookouts and quartermasters.
The third and final one occurred the same day, but well after Titanic was underway to swing out the two emergency cutters.
Sam, love how angry you got because I can relate! I too grew up learning history and about the Titanic and have been watching your vids for quite awhile.
But, did you notice…. Through out the video from Bright Side the American Flag on the poles of the ship? I was surprised that you never mentioned anything about them!
Yes, I liked the part in James Cameron's Titanic movie where the terrorist told Keanu Reeves that if the ship slowed down to a point the bomb will go off and there's also a kraken chasing the ship!
Such amazing special effects, especially when the ship fails the speed challenge and Captain Smith goes all Rambo in revenge on the terrorist as the survivors try to get to the lifeboats and Keanu Reeves wrestles the Kraken!
edit: if this is the worst he's seen, I'd love to see his take on the two animated Titanic movies. There's a Raping dog. There's some retarded environmentalist plot going on and involves talking sea animals. An octopus saves the Titanic and everyone aboard it. etc etc
😂😂
To be fair the animated movies are just for small children to watch and any adult, no matter how dumb, would know they were fictional….Bright Side, on the other hand, publishes these video as fact and there are plenty of people out there dumb enough to watch and believe their total BS.
That was my favourite part too
Oh boy. Bright Side never ceases to disspoint. Thanks for the video, it was great as always! Also, Sam, how did you never notice that the Titanic in the animations had an American flag flying from the mast? 😂
I thought I saw that too. I was like wait a minute why does it have an American flag at the front and back of the ship.
@@MsJimmysgirl yeah, lol.
This channel should call themselves the dark side instead of the bright side
They always get things wrong they are the side of hell
@MsJimmysgirl It actually was common for ocean liners to fly the flag of their destination, although I believe that was when they arrived to port. So if Titanic had actually made it to New York she would have flown an American flag. There's also the fact that Titanic was technically American owned thanks to the IMM ran by JP Morgan owning White Star Line, but I don't know if that had any bearing on the flags the WSL ships flew.
I think Brightside makes these videos on purpose just for us to watch Sam lose his shit lmao
A Titanic enthusiast watching Bright Side feels the kind of frustration my gastroenterologist uncle feels when he sees that colon cleanser ad that runs on youtube claiming everyone has 20 pounds of backed up poop in their colon.
I'll have to give Bright Side this: they got me drunk though.
Someone needs to check poor Sam’s blood pressure. 😅
He'll have a heart attack before he's 35
Good job Sam you've survived another bright side video review it's an inspiration
Bright side titanic: I appear to have burst into flames
You never heard the accounts of the whole front of titanic being engulfed in a raging inferno when departing?
I can't tell wether your being comedic or conspiratorial.
Why does Bright Side keep trying to paint Titanic as an example of Captain incompetence instead of just an unprecedented event in very unfortunate circumstances
I think this is the most laughter I've seen on this channel in one episode 😂
I think we might need a historic travels anime just for Bright Side. 😂
I love your Bright Side response videos!!!! They make it too easy to roast/debunk them! 😆
Crazy how much brightside go out of their way to villainize everyone involved in the disaster regardless of truth or circumstances.
I love that Sam is getting pissed off in this one 😂 it shows his humanity and logical reasoning
I noticed at one point the RMS Titanic was flying the American flag. Bright Side couldn’t even get the most basic fact that it was a British ship correct.
I think that they might've actually got that right, I'm pretty sure that ships of the time put the destination Country's flag on the bow, and the country of departure on the stern, I could absolutely be wrong about it though
@@morgans.2183 The flag on the back was US flag as well.
@@MrRjh63 the Bright Side model had a US flag on the stern too?
@@morgans.2183 yeah you can see it towards the end.
@@MrRjh63 oof, sorry about that
I think if people in Discord keep suggesting Bright Side videos Sam might just start drinking lol. On the subject of the regulations about lifeboats, an 1892 regulation states that any ship over 10 tons required I believe 16 lifeboats. So legally speaking, Titanic had more lifeboats than she was required by law.
As a mariner I like.these breakdown videos I hauled coal it does give off heat.. bulkheads do sweat in the summertime and does get hot enough to cook hotdogs.. so yeah coal does need ventilation when being carried
No fire could have weakened the hull due to heating as the hull was being cooled by the water of the atlantic ocean. No matter where the fire was, the hull couldn't have gotten hot enough.
Watching a "Bright Side" video is like what would happen if, rather then James Cameron, "TITANIC" had been written, produced, and filmed by Tommy Wiseau.
I'm eating as I'm watching and the instant he said "1915" I nearly choked (with laughter). Lol
The black spot on the hull was not from the coal fire. It was, however, from the Mummy in the cargo hold, who was summoning the Kraken.
I didn't feel included in your channel, but seeing this video brought me back I re subscribed
So Wikipedia actually does say he failed the first exam, but the next week, he passed.
It doesn't matter in the slightest anyway, navigation had zero impact on the sinking.
@Glazers OUT yes but he asked if someone could check if that was true.

The picture seen at 13:24 are of the four surviving officers: Fifth Officer Lowe, Second Officer Lightoller, Fourth Officer Boxhall and Third Officer Pitman (seated). Not a stock photo. Just FYI.
The thing about Captain Smith failing his navigation exam is like saying someone is a bad driver if they fail their driving exam the first time, then later pass. It implies that people can't improve their skills with additional study and practice.
You never should show your beam to danger .should havehit it head on.some in the ship some would have died in the foxhall and saved the ship and wrinkled its nose
Hi Sam. Thank you for going through the pain of watching a bright side video to educate us.

@@HemiChrysler The God that sank the Titanic.
“The night of the sinking of a the titanic it was traveling thru a sea of coal while being powered by sea water” - bright side
Hey Sam, love your videos even these ones😅 A really cool video idea I'd be interested in watching would be how much longer could titanic have stayed afloat if the d deck gangway door wasn't opened.
Next on Bright Side: "A change of perspective: how Titanic sank an iceberg"
(since they keep showing things going backwards...)
Titanic cost 7.5 million to build. I loved that the Titanic was racing along because they didn't want to "ruin her reputation." How can you talk about her reputation if it was her maiden voyage, you earn a reputation.
The maiden voyage was the big thing here, not any 'bankcruptcy' because a lot of scheduled departures were cancelled due to the coal miners' strike, and in fact many passangers who had booked passages on other White Star Line ships were moved to the Titanic because there wasn't much interest and the Titanic was badly underbooked. Now, a nearly empty ship going on a maiden voyage would have been bad for the company's reputation. As Sam's saying on this video.
@katoshitakagumi3609 I understand, but other ships had reputations to defend... Titanic did not have a reputation yet. Olympic did, Lusitania and Mauritania did. I will admit the maiden voyage established Titanics reputation, but it is not a reputation that White Star would have wanted. Also racing along to set a record was always given as a reason she was doing 22 knots. Thank goodness he put that down , Lusitania and the Mauritania were designed to be 25 knot ships, which Titanic could not do.
@@richardsweeney197 As I understand it, there was no attempt to set any record. Titanic was expected to follow the set schedule, and Ismay specifically did not want to inconvenience any passengers by potentially arriving in New York early, on the 16th instead of the scheduled 17th.
@katoshitakagumi3609 I agree, but since so much else that was in the video that was being debunked was tired disproven conspiracies that When they started on the path. The first time I heard the coal bunker fire theory was from a used car salesman from Texas who went on to get salvage rights on the Titanic. Also the Californian had reported she was stopped and locked in ice before Titanic even found the iceberg. Captian Stanley Lord's crew members signed on to sail with him repeatedly after the event, and after his retirement, was one of the people who sailed his yacht to Dunkirk during the evacuation. The host did a wonderful job of introducing sanity to an insane video he was debunking.
I feel like this video was just a speedrun to debunk most of the Titanic myths, poor Sam.
Only 3 funnels would have had smoke coming from them. Surely this is a windup designed to get publicity?
28:34
Sam: How much have I vented?
Me: Enough to probably power the Titanic.

While it is true that Captain Smith failed his navigation exams on his first try, he did eventually get his Masters certificate in I think it was 1888. I was watching a video about a similar discussion not long ago on Oceanliner Designs I think it was. I also found some articles from 2012 saying how Smith failed his first navigation exam which wasn't uncommon for sailors back then as many people had to take it more than once.
