I have a old clipper given to me by a old hippy in the nineties he had been using it since the seventies, Ol Toot has passed on now but that lighter still brings a smile when I break it out on those rare occasions.
A clipper actually fits perfectly inside of a 410 shell casing! My friends and I would scour the farmers fields looking for different ones so we could personalise our clippers when I was about 13 maybe 14 yrs old. I would burn a hole in the casing and attach a small metal ring to it, then make a rope for it so I could hang it round my neck so nobody could 'accidentally' pocket it. Looked pretty dope too, well for a 14 year old metal head anyway, haha!
It's a 12 bore cartridge that they fit into , I remember first seeing one that was in a cartridge belt being worn by some Scottish punk bloke called Tommy ( hello Tommy if your reading this !) ( you never know !)
Yea me and our group of rebels also used to hunt through corn fields searching for the shell case's whilst praying that the farmer never came out taking warning shots at us all lol Also we would collect the different coloured pokey ends that were used to poke down a doobie at one end for the roach to fit 😜 Ahh the life of a doobie lover growing up
Clippers will always be the best lighters, at least for smokers. The fact I can collect the designs and reuse them is one thing, but that removable tool is perfect for packing down bowls or joints. Not to mention the flint.. it’s everything you want from a professional lighter that you plan to keep with you forever but still cheap enough to throw out and replace in a second
The collectable aspect along with the tool do make them an essential part of a stoners toolkit, no doubt! Only bad point is that they tend to go missing. A lot. And the cooler or rarer the design the higher the chance of them accidentally on purpose ending up in one of your mate's pockets by the end of the evening right?! Haha! We have all had it happen to us at some point and we've all 'accidentally' done it ourselves... it's the curse of the clipper, the stoner's affliction 😉😂😂😂🤘
Jeff Jeff Jeff you forgot the most important part! Long ago I never could understand why I couldn’t get my refillable lights to fill up. No matter how big a butane bottle I used or how new it was I could only get any lighter to fill about less than half. I finally found out that right before you refill a lighter you have to push the fill valve down to release the gas pressure left in the lighter . Then your lighter will fill completely up. Thanks for the videos Get up the good work!
The first clipper I got was the raw clipper you have. I turned it over to light my bowl and the flame shot out and burned my mustache. Great bowl rip tho 😆
The clipper is reusable so its friendly to the environment, less plastic waist. It can be used to stop a wasp entering a bottle and when on the piss let's you know your beer bottle you are drinking from when you come back from having a piss. Its got lots of other uses as well

Thank you so much! My boyfriend and myself bought a couple of these lighters a few months ago. And didn't know how to change the flints. You solved our issue and our clipper is back up n running! You rock!
I have an $8 fuel bottle (maybe 1.5x the size of your bottle there) and have refilled my clipper (and other lighters but clipper is my EDC) at least 15 times and there is still about half the can left. It really is great. I love that you got the point about how when you light a bowl it gives you a bit of extra flame AND the star shaped wheel!
Idk if that was an intended design, but just gravity and liquid being pushed out instead of gas, so you have more butane, as seen by big flame. I'd be care smoking like that thought. Butane ain't good to inhale. And you do inhale it quite frequently.
Clippers are great for all the reasons you mention and my go-to lighter for EDC, I smoke so always have at least one on me. Also they come in smaller sizes (at least here in the UK) and these are great for keeping in coin pockets if you want to go ultralight, or for throwing in pouches and bags as backups if you are hiking or camping. Having said that, the best type of lighter to have in a survival kit, which you don't use and save for emergencies, is the Bic, because these are filled up in a factory under pressure and sealed and hold far much more gas than you can get in any refillable lighter. I had a full size Bic which I used every day a lot and it lasted me over 6 months.

Clippers are pretty good, i use them for spare lighters scattered throughout all my bags and coats, but, mostly for sentimental reasons, i still prefer my old zippo for a primary lighter.
So glad to see that I'm not the only person with a graveyard of lighters that no longer work because they have very specific sentimental memories to me. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 we're not crazy! Lol
Y'know ive been watching you Jeff since you made the original balisong, zippo and pocket knife collection videos I even remember those old homemade weapons collections and today I felt like I learned something new about you today with the Clippers. I worked at head shops and dispensaries in Canada and Clippers are always in a stoners arsenal not to mention how you specifically got a RAW and Psychedelic looking lighter makes me think you dabble in the left handed cigarettes from time to time haha.
A clipper also has the straight edge to scrape/collect substances off the table when rolling. The bottom of the clipper also fits perfectly on glass bottles to keep insects out and keep it carbonated for longer.
I actually had one of these sitting next to me when I clicked on this video.. and I’ve always preferred bics but my local gas station only has the clippers now … HOWEVER after watching this video and examining mine you’ve totally sold me on these lighters!
The flint striker can get kind of gummed up with old flint material after a long period of time. With a wire brush thats not too stiff, you can easily clean it to refresh the striking action.
Awesome video man thank you didn't know how to get the packing piece out AND learned that I could refill..... man sorry to hear about your people, all love and prayers
I have a collection of these for the same reasons. Refillable and you can replace the flint. I've noticed that you can rotate the striker to get a better spark.
@@rafaeltorre1643 oh ok so you mean removing the striker on the clipper, and replacing with a round bic lighter one? Does it fit? And I prefer the clipper one, though. But may try it
@@LuisC7 Yes. You can buy extra flint wheel pokers in packs on eBay. He was just saying basically he buys another new one and pits it on the older one. You can at anytime put it in and lighter you want to use. Also scrub the wheel because flint material will make it less effective over time. I use mini bic wheels and they light 100% of the time. But I personally buy vintage lighters because they are metal and never break. Just need to teach yourself how to service them. I collect plastic lighters but haven’t used them since discovering the quality of 60 year old indestructible lighters. They are pieces of jewelry made by jewelers, literally. Art.
Oh fuck yeah! I have that same RAW one and I have been refilling it for a while and changed the flint for the first time about two months ago. I miss watching your videos after coming home from school. Now I’m too busy with work, new hobbies and more videos to watch, to watch your videos every day. You got EVERY point about the clipper in this video! I am so grateful for having your videos to watch as a teenager and then into a young man.
But yeah, they have a few benefits over BIC, started more as rolling lighters, the edge coming ovff to put your paper on, the spark wheel coming out to use as a tamp, made initially for people who roll their own smokes of any kind. But they also can be beneficial in wilderness, as the removeable spark wheel, is good when you just need a spark but not a light.
I bought it specifically because it was refillable and I'm tired of paying two plus dollars on a bic every week or two. But I didn't know about the replaceable flint, which is pretty ingenious. Thanks for the info. 👍🏻
Thank you I learned about the flame size when tipping and I needed to thank you. I just wish there was a window to see the fluid in mine. But oh well. Nice lighters and thanks for the video.
Not only is the flint part a packing tool, but the flat part can be used as a scraper and the metal ring detaches also so that you can make a cone pack easier.
Thank you, that is why i bought a clipper lighter, for refilling and delay wasting or throwing away. But, i almost dumped them because i new the flint was depleted but didnt know how to . Thanks for the video, this helped! Life is living by tiny moments!
Everybody I know that owns one of those knows that if I'm not mistaken even tells you on the package when you buy one. Okay well it doesn't tell you you can use it as a bowl packer but it does tell you that you can remove it and replace the Flint and if you can't figure out that it can be used as a bowl packer you probably don't smoke a bowl. I own several of these clipper lighters but for some reason I still go back to my Bic I think it's just the way it fits my hand.
Would you say lighting cigars with clippers in the wind is a little better than bic cuz of that stronger flame when you turn the lighter on its side? I might just get one of those instead of blue flame torches cuz I just cannot see the blue flames on the cigar torches I've had so far. So is the flame stable enough when its on its side to toast cigars?
The fact that you can refill this lighter is great. The only problem with the clippers compared to bic is that they do not always ignight from the first time. Sometimes you need to try three or four times before you get a fire. Bic always works from the first time. If you remove the safety cap from bic, which is easly done, you also do not need to press so hard to get it going.
I have one with a pipe tamper bottom. The bottom unscrews, but there's a cavity. I have a feeling the refill nipple is in the tamper part but I'm not sure how to get to it. Any thoughts?
The longer flame when tipping it over is dependent on the length of the tube that leads to the outlet. If it almost reaches the bottom then, when upright, there is liquid being forced most of the way up the outlet tube. When tipped over, only the vapor is able to enter the outlet tube which can be accelerated faster by the pressure in the lighter.
If you have problems with your grip on it the clipper fits inside of a used 12bore shotgun cartridge like a sleeve, its handy if your hands are wet or really cold
Thanks for your info vid. Really helpful. Yes I did know they’re reusable (refillable and new flints). I checked the subject out, because I wanted to know why sometimes when they get a bit old, they don’t light single-handed. I’ve never cleaned one, so I gave that a go, but it didn’t work on the trickiest one. Ah well. I have others that work immediately with one hand.
Clippers are awesome. I've been using the same lighter for 3 years ! As long as you purge them, you're good to go for a long time ! The big plastic valves eventually wear out and will leak a bit if you're not careful, but this is easily fixable with a paperclip to put it back in place. You can also carefully strip the mechanism to clean it completely and change the wheel and spring.
I’ve been using a clipper for years, and I never noticed the tipping thing til now, other than the fact that it’s easier to light when it’s tipped over.
All this time I’ve been trying to figure out how to replace the flint I feel so stupid now after watching this video lol. I did not know that the flat mechanism would come straight out and you can refill it from the bottom that was the biggest surprise out of this video lol I have a bunch of these are used to work for a company that we used to give these away as a promotional items to customers and I have a butt load but a lot of them have no flint. I know you can put fuel in them but not a flint until I watch this video thank you so very much now all I have to do is make sure if I need a lighter to buy clipper the other ones are a pain in the butt to even fix and they’re a lot more dangerous to refill but these are easy is Peezy as pie. Thank you so very much young man thank you thank you thank you you save me a lot of heartache and a lot of stress and God bless you and your family and friends and don’t forget repent because Jesus Christ is on his way prophecies are being fulfilled left and right in these last days of the world so please my brother repent so we can be in heaven together and worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ together. ✝️✝️✝️🇺🇸
Never knew you could take the flint rod out of the lighter. I still have my first clipper, but the flint died on me. I have changed it with a rod from a recently bought clipper and it finally works again. Brings back some good memories.
I did know they were refillable (and have refilled them), but had wondered what would be when the flint was gone. Now, I know it's easy as pie as well, so that's nice to know. I've got a whole stack of BICs from finding them by the roadside. I repair the still fueled ones, too, and just for fun, but I prefer the Clippers, they feel a bit more durable than standard gas station BICs, and the cylinder shape feels better in pocket IMO. It's also cool that they bring out new print series for the shells constantly. Recently I saw animal pattern prints and bought 2 of them, tiger and leopard
Hi. Avo and then I ruined my lighters. The o ring gasket at the valve comes out and then they are no longer available. Any advice how to preserve it? What am I doing wrong? And are they still fixable?
Looked up the packing tool hack to see if it was true tapped on this video heard the voice a voice I hadn’t heard for many years but recognized it immediately and said “is that CutleryLover??” I knew it was. Man ab 10. Years ago I was getting into flint and steel and survival stuff and your videos taught me everything about firestarters
Helped me alot I'm a medical marijuana user and I bought one of these lighters yesterday I was reading the small print it said to refill it and use it to roll cigarettes? Nice video but how do you do that part
Love the channel and I’m also interested in lighters in addition to knives and sharpening. (And also like keeping some stored for prep). I didn’t know about Clippers and I was relying on a Zippo or torch lighter for a refillable but I really like the fact that these Clipper lighters are also refillable! I just picked a couple up today!
I have the exact clippers that you have. Other clippers have a white part on the flint. This can be twisted off. How do you change the flint on the black version? Very good to see at 2:16 😁
This video made me so happy and dissapointed at the same time! I was trying to replace the flint by removing the wheel, I did not know about the twistable bottom hahaha thank you!
A bit off topic, but got your knife in today, the CLBS-1 (?). Number 73/250. Loving it. Thank you for going so far as to make some affordable. Will do a vid on it soon. Thanks again
WOW, thank you! I was searching for a hack on how to compress the spring so I could jam a flint in there. I already removed the wheel but never pulled on it 🙄🙄 - THANK YOU
I bought a twin pack of clippers from Walmart a while back. After I got them out of the package I noticed that one of them was empty...I saw just a few little rough marks on the buttom as well. Instead of returning it I got a sudden gut instinct and tried fiddling with the buttom seal cap... And sure enough it came loose, revealing an airtight stash compartment. The container proved to be perfectly suited for the job.
Did you know you can use isobutain if for out doors the long isobutane canister used in the cook stove the nozzle on the top fits a clipper lighter or it does in UK I fill mine with isobutane for the out doors handles cold weather a bit better
I've bought several, and they all stopped working after a few times of refilling. I didn't realize you could replace flint, but i don't know if that was the problem
I have found that if you pump the can up and down to fill and not hold it down like that, it fills it more efficiently and fully. Love the content man! Cheers! 🔥💨🤘
The problem ive found with every clipper ive had is the thumb plunger/button starts to fail. Replacing the flint and filling the gas is something ive always done but the thumb plunger/button that actuates the gas valve starts to not grab the valve and therefore gas doesnt come out. Any way to fix this? It may need a clean but i wouldn't know how to do it.

Thanks! I just bought my first clipper lighter and this video was really useful to show the removable part and other features
Do you have to bleed the air out to so you can get more fuel.in them
The flint striker can get kind of gummed up with old flint material after a long period of time.
With a wire brush thats not too stiff, you can easily clean it to refresh the striking action.
I believe this is the problem I'm having....the flint appears alot shorter than a Bic as well.
hey jeff. can you do a 10 year update on your 11/172010 Legal weapons collection? would love to see that.
Ooh yes please!
wow thats a throw back
idk this my first time watching him
classic
Yuuuuuuuuuuuup
Awesome video man thank you didn't know how to get the packing piece out AND learned that I could refill..... man sorry to hear about your people, all love and prayers
I’ve never seen one before but now I’m going to be looking. I want to try them out.
I have a collection of these for the same reasons. Refillable and you can replace the flint. I've noticed that you can rotate the striker to get a better spark.
What do you mean by rotating the striker?
@@LuisC7 Putting a different one on. You can use a mini bic wheel or Chinese one. A large bic is too thick.
Art.
@@rafaeltorre1643 oh great! What would that vintage lighters be??
Been watching since a kid for the knives, now that I’m a bit older seeing this makes me happy
I was in middle school watching butterfly knives videos 🤣
@@derrickwilliams2121 bro I was a little knife nerd throwing knives and flipping Bali’s too💀💀💀
Oh fuck yeah!
I worked at Headdies in Dickson City and we sold tons of these. These are perfect for stuffing joints.
I like the spark it's like stars when u roll it
I bought it specifically because it was refillable and I'm tired of paying two plus dollars on a bic every week or two.
Rest In Peace Gus 😔😔❤️❤️❤️❤️
Not only is the flint part a packing tool, but the flat part can be used as a scraper and the metal ring detaches also so that you can make a cone pack easier.
Amazing fact, that is also easy to open if you need to clean any ash/residue after using it for long time, and it gets as good as new.
dont forget that you get extra flame when turning it sideways to light a bong bowl easier lol its a 120% pot lighter :D
agree, switched to this in my survival kits long time ago.
Thank you, that is why i bought a clipper lighter, for refilling and delay wasting or throwing away. But, i almost dumped them because i new the flint was depleted but didnt know how to . Thanks for the video,
this helped!
Hadn't a notion to be honest. Next clipper I'm handed is getting pocketed though.
Now I want to light a candle for the fallen homies
Just lit one
Would you say lighting cigars with clippers in the wind is a little better than bic cuz of that stronger flame when you turn the lighter on its side?
I might just get one of those instead of blue flame torches cuz I just cannot see the blue flames on the cigar torches I've had so far.
So is the flame stable enough when its on its side to toast cigars?
I have taken the sparker unit and wraped some tape around it to thicken it up for grip and use them for sparkers in survival kits
Clippers were made for bonging, turn the best upside down and the flame grows bigger perfect for peak bowl ignition. 🔥
Get a new flint
I have one with a pipe tamper bottom. The bottom unscrews, but there's a cavity. I have a feeling the refill nipple is in the tamper part but I'm not sure how to get to it. Any thoughts?
The longer flame when tipping it over is dependent on the length of the tube that leads to the outlet. If it almost reaches the bottom then, when upright, there is liquid being forced most of the way up the outlet tube. When tipped over, only the vapor is able to enter the outlet tube which can be accelerated faster by the pressure in the lighter.
the lighters fill in like 5 seconds u dont gotta hold it that long . i noticed that when i filled my clear one.
"ever since gus passed away i've had a candle lit"
yes... a candle ;)
When's the last time sparked up a candle with that raw lighter? ;)
lmao yea I was like uhhhh huh "candle" haha
Last night and lit a dragons blood incense
Clippers are awesome. I've been using the same lighter for 3 years ! As long as you purge them, you're good to go for a long time ! The big plastic valves eventually wear out and will leak a bit if you're not careful, but this is easily fixable with a paperclip to put it back in place. You can also carefully strip the mechanism to clean it completely and change the wheel and spring.
Or you can buy a new one for 1.69
@@andymatt6990right, how else are you gonna get a new wheel and spring 😂
You’ve done 3 videos on this lol. Clippers are the best lighters ever made especially for the price.
Thank you for this! Thank you I knew they were reusable but thought it was a harder process. I didn't know that the flint comes out!
Any way to make the flame smaller? I took apart and tried turning the part where the flame comes out, but no joy.
Fun fact from the factory a clipper has a low pressure butane in them
I did know they were refillable (and have refilled them), but had wondered what would be when the flint was gone.
If you have excessive earwax buildup, the screw end of the flint housing is the perfect size to dislodge it without risking damage to your eardrum.
Hi. Avo and then I ruined my lighters. The o ring gasket at the valve comes out and then they are no longer available. Any advice how to preserve it? What am I doing wrong? And are they still fixable?
The wheels used to be round they changed it to hexagon as a "child safety "
100% true😊
My clipper metal has a round wheel
@@cdawson198600 same i have 3 different styles of the metal ones and they all have the round wheels you can swap them out if you wanted
Yes! I only use Clipper lighters, I always try and educate my friends about the little hidden secrets that Clippers hold.
As you should. They also make a jet and push button lighter too.
R.I.P. Gus 🙏🏻 gone but never forgotten
The flint being removable isn't just for replacement....
Its also for packing joints
Love the channel and I’m also interested in lighters in addition to knives and sharpening. (And also like keeping some stored for prep). I didn’t know about Clippers and I was relying on a Zippo or torch lighter for a refillable but I really like the fact that these Clipper lighters are also refillable! I just picked a couple up today!
You can get metal clippers too, both in soft flame & torch versions.
I've never tried to refill the red valves look different. ...do you still use the standard butane
Jeff you pothead, those are stoner lighters lol
Jeff has/had some interesting story times in the past about the good bud. :)
not unless you light weed with them lol...They are great lighters in general...
real homies use the flint of a clipper as a poker
I have the exact clippers that you have. Other clippers have a white part on the flint. This can be twisted off. How do you change the flint on the black version? Very good to see at 2:16 😁
Thanks , i knew that refill but not that with the Spark stone . I got 2 of them lying around .
Reefer lighters
Clippers break easily, Bic will last until the gas runs out. I've had numerous clippers break on me
This video made me so happy and dissapointed at the same time! I was trying to replace the flint by removing the wheel, I did not know about the twistable bottom hahaha thank you!
"Candle"
Yeah that’s what he meant

It may need a clean but i wouldn't know how to do it.
hello, sir, how do you adjust the flame setting, do you know, because my clipper has a very large fire, and wastes a lot of gas. please help me for my beloved clipper problem🙏
