Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I followed the sparking piece steps but with no improvement, I decided to flip the wheel, which comes out very easily between it's legs and boom, massive spark returned.
Thanks for the clear video. Please consider doing another where you can just talk about the basics of 1) Rule of thumb stuff for filling the lighter and how to tell how much fuel is in there, 2) How to adjust the flame size, 3) Any other maintenance items which are not completely obvious. Maybe around 3 minutes only, that could be helpful. Thanks for your consideration.
A sincere thanks for this vid, I had heard that Clipper lighter quality in recent years has apparently gone way down compared to older ones. I wonder how much of that is just people needing to clean them as shown... Some claim the older smooth wheels vs the newer hexagonal ones were better since apparently the new wheels wear down the flints unevenly, you can apparently either flip it upside down or file the flint even if there's enough room left, or salvage flints from dead bics. I got a 12 pack of clippers for pretty cheap, $9something. They have the better bronze ring style refill port at least. Can't say I'm a fan at all of the hexagonal wheels though, kinda hurts my finger using. I've seen some people selling 3rd party replacement wheels online, although they're kinda pricey for what they are, often they're more expensive than just getting new lighters lol
Perfect. I purchased a half dozen of these because they were reusable, but the new flint didn't fix it, however, your cleaning of the wheel did. Thanks.
I was going to say that overall you gave good information. Until you finished cleaning the nozzle. I rebuild modern and vintage lighters everyday for hobby and extra money. I love doing it. I know exactly how to clean adjustable and fixed flame. Have you ever taken the nozzle and button off when full? The only thing holding the flame valve in place is the black button that pulls up on it. Thats why its able to do that. Turning it any direction for any amounts of time doesn’t do anything. However I can tell you exactly how to clean a small flame easily. But you have to be careful. When full, pull off the button and flame valve and under is an aluminum sleeve with a micro hole. It’s extremely tiny to keep the flame a fixed height. If you poke the hole beside just touching it with a sewing needle, it will be a huge flamethrower and will never be the same. Basically just pull them off and clean the aluminum sleeve with alcohol or sanitizer. If the flame doesn’t change then poke it but barely! Seriously. Thats it. It doesn’t have a filter so the particulates clog that hole. I use paint brushes to clean. Use a toothbrush for the wheel and I personally replace them with a mini bic wheel or mk china lighter or neon lighter one. Other than that you gave good advice. I recommend buying a vintage lighter. You will never use a bic or clipper again unless it’s to use with others so yours doesn’t get stolen. Lol
Thank you, you taught me something today. I am no expert, just a guy with a addiction to both cannabis and clippers. I have never disassembled them completely. I will try later, thanks!
@@blahhotel1499 I never took an interest until my friend asked me to fix his Newport Zero torch that looks like a piezo click lighter with just a longer flame valve tube. I took it apart and graduated through everything you can think of. It took me years to figure out how to fix the tiny flame on a Clipper! I just confirmed it 3 days ago. But im used to clearing the hole on adjustable lighters. I poked it with some pressure and it went up 4 inches! So basically just clean the micro hole well. Avoid poking it at all or adding any pressure if tapping the hole if all else fails. The reason clippers do this and not bics is because it’s refillable and used more so it has time to clog. Nothing to do with butane or any idea someone swears by. The way someone can technically “adjust” the height is by barely making the hole a 0.00001 bigger. Haha
@@blahhotel1499 If you ever need to, replace your clippers with mini bic wheels and it will light 99.9% of the time. If you are careful you can get a drill and barely expand the diameter of the flint wheel and fit bic flints in them. I’ve done it for years. Just do it by hand.

From a technicians point of view - stretching the spring is causing permanent and irreversible damage to a vital component piece. Some short term improvement at a rudimentary level for sure due to the increased torque friction, but once the spring has been stretched even once it's on it's way out.
It would be more of a problem on a $1,000 piece of machinery, but for a $2 clipper, less of an issue since you can just get a new striker cheaply. I understand where you are coming from, i too work with springs and it erchs me when people do this on more important things.
@@oussama4629 It's not about whether the spring is expensive or not, or whether it works (for a very short time) by ruining the component piece permanently. It's about intelligent application by applying a solution that doesn't cause permanent damage to vital and necessary component pieces. Intelligent working solutions should apply across the board when speaking from correctly applied technicians methods. The fact it's a cheap lighter is missing the bigger (and very valid) point, but fair enough I get what you're saying.
@@k1dn1ce76i get your point and i always look for solutions to keep things in their original status and avoid irreversible changes but if it gets the job done with ease, i'm down for it
I have used clippers for years, they're the main lighter for "smokers" in the UK. Never realised you could screw the nozzle! I often replace the wheels as they fall apart, I put in circular ones instead of the hex "safety" ones though. They are meant to go in one direction, but you can tell once you try em out.
Thanks I just tried your tips and it started working again however I’m curious about the flints, how do you replace it if it’s lost or not usable anymore
Hello Dear Friend, thank you for your informative video, I have a question however about the flame adjustment of the clippers shown on your video. Is there a way to do it? Following gas refill mine's flame is too hight and I could not find a way to reduce it.
My biggest issue with clippers at the moment and what has been for a while is either wheels getting dirty/clogged/blunt but they can usually be cleaned up and fixed or even replaced to some extent but the biggest issue for me is after a while the flame size gets really small regardless of how much gas is in the lighter and whilst a good clean around the nozzle part does help a lil bit it doesn’t help much. I kinda think I know what the potential problem is - dust and flint/dirt etc builds up under the nozzle where it gets lifted/ pushed up for the gas to come out, this flint dust/dirt builds up and reduces the amount of force and push it has on the nozzle so it doesn’t get pushed as much when you hold the gas down so not as much gas is released. If you get what I mean. Trying to clean this area out enough to make a difference is hard tho and I’m thinking of just putting a couple empty clippers in the dishwasher and seeing if that helps 😂.
@@herbalterrorist420 that, and i have since learnt that one should "purge the tank" when this happens. That being, either release all the butan via the nozzle, or gentle depressing the fill port and release the pressure (only works on the ones with a brass insert, the plastic only ones will burst). Once empty, refill the clipper and the flame should be back
If you need a flint, just find a dead Bic and take that one. Been salvaging flints and springs for years, dunno why but it's finally paid off, lol. I have 4 Clippers now and have replaced all the flints at least once and Bic flints last longer than the original ones
I have never heard about that issue with clippers. Is it adjustable? I have had adjustable bics do that. In that case i twisted the nozzle towards the - side.
You can use WD40! You can take all the funky stuff off and lubricate the tiny parts at the same time (not that it needs lubrication, but you know what I mean 😅)

I was given one almost 20 years ago. It stopped working because i couldn't refill it. Since it was my first refill and all the butane leaked out immediately. But since I still have that lighter, i decided i was gonna figure that issue out. I noticed...... No brass ring on the fill valve. So I can only assume there never was one. I guess ot was DOA. But.... I was able to use it when she gave it to me. Which means...... it wasn't leaking. Until i tried to refill it. Odd. No brass ring, but was working until it ran out. I am perplexed.
@@CabeBooth i have come to learn that one needs to "purge" lighters occasionally. I had the same issue with a really expensive lighter, where it would just leak out the side of the fill valve. When i brought it back they showed me that you need to depress the fill valve and drain the tank of the filler gas that the butan comes mixed with. I forgot what purpose of the gas was, but every butane canister needs it to function, but it builds up in the tank.
