Some avid moto enthusiasts love tinkering in the shop as much as riding their bikes. Something about walking into the garage or shop and seeing your beauty of a build grow from infancy to a full-grown bike is similar to raising a child. Except that child will not talk back or spit up on you. However, this Garage Build might cost as much as a real human infant! I let Scott McDonough ride one of my GasGas MC 250 test bikes awhile back, and he liked it so much that he purchased one himself. This is his build.

I like how honest he is about his reason for buying certain parts and about his abilities
Thank you
Humble, articulate dude. Bike is sweet!
That might be the best compliment I've ever got. Thank you.
This guy is really cool. His instagram is filled with two stroke eye candy!
I've seen this bike online before dope build! props to Scott for building a sick bike and covering it in bling just because he wanted too 😎
That bike looks sick! I love the exhaust pipe/expansion chamber. And those carbon fiber motor mounts are slick. This is one of my favorite rides so far
Bike is gnarly man one of the most beautiful examples I've seen
Love you guys! Especially Scott
Thanks buddy.
Sweet bike thanks for sharing! I just put a 300 kit on my 2022 mc250 and it is so sick
The man has taste! 👍
Wow, very cool!
Things sick
Sweet great bike and job 👍 👌
Awesome bike.
Good video, likeable owner, good information.
Did the sticker say Sweden on the Öhlins? The entire bike is beautiful, well done. Wonder what the Top peak HP landed at (300 kit) as if i remember correctly the 250 stock would be aprox 49,2 something, anyway well done sir 👊🏼
Ohlins seems to take out the noise! The “chatter” love 💕 them! lol they aren’t cheap, so you better
Looking good Brotha! Love the bike
Thanks George.
Wow what an awesome guy. Seems like a really good dude to hang and ride with! I also love everything about the build, Awesome job. (No I don't mean Keefer not even a little)
@Scott McDonough: wishing you all the best with this GasGas!
It's snowing at Glen Helen today! 😂😅 Unbelievable. That pipe is gorgeous! I'd like to know more about why he went with Ohlins forks instead of getting what he could out of the WP suspension, and how much they cost. Really nice build!
The reason I went with the Ohlins was that I got a good deal on them on MX Locker and I also have a friend that knows how to tune Ohlins really well. The biggest reason is because the look sweet. haha
@@moto67e That looks like a fun bike! Nice job on the build, and Ohlins makes great suspension. We're the same height (5'11") and maybe close in age (52) but I'm around 182 lbs with no gear on, and a novice/intermediate rider. Did you put a lowering linkage on it, or stick with stock? If so, what do you think of that compared to the stock linkage? What's your weight? Love that pipe, so I'm probably going to order one too! Glad I found your video
@@JokersWild70 I stuck with the stock linkage.
@@moto67e Awesome. Thank you
Very cool!
trick Öhlins suspension!
Amém 🙏
Damn that would kick my 96 cr250s ass
Don't sell it!
Doesn’t anyone go ride at mile stone anymore
Kaplan Cycles did a 500 kit on this.. It's a beast!!!! check out his youtube kaplan america
Carbs are easy. Welcome to lectron life. The only place they make more power is absolutely wide open tapped out. Otherwise they rob off the bottom and neuter response. The Jetting lol, It will never be perfect and if you like perfect you will be chasing chasing chasing. Their customer service is extremely rude if you don’t buy into the company rhetoric as well. If you buy what they’re selling they’re definitely the nicest people in the world though.
They just CANNOT intelligently answer any question that challenges why their carb may not be working the way they think it should be. They can’t get jetting 100 percent. I worked with them for a long time.
Surprises the hell out of me how many guys still run a lectron and just accept the 80 percent of perfect jetting as good.
Lectrons slogan should be “jUSt aS GoOD 🤪”
I've had them on the dyno & I know many others who have as well. The Lectron (or "smart" carb & the sc2) have NEVER beat out a Keihin or Mikuni in power. From bottom to top, the Keihin & Mikuni make more power than the Lectron & SC2. Facts.
I'd go with a Lectron over the SC2 every day of the week though. The SC2 is bogus & the guys behind it suck.
@@keithpeterson6108 very good to know. I’ve seen charts of lectrons pullin more up top as far as overall flow and thusly making a gnats hair more at wot on the dyno but again that’s dyno dependent. People fudge numbers. I still think they belong in the dumpster regardless. The poor in me restricts me from smashing the one I sadly own with a mini sledge, I do urinate on it on occasion though…. Worst purchase I’ve ever made for a dirt bike in over 20 years of riding.
I now am back to a keihin airstryker pwk with a taper bore and a torque wing, it ends up being a 36/39. Best carb I’ve ever owned for a 2t. Hands down. Also the most expensive 😂😂 but worth every penny.
Interesting, maybe I'll throw the stock carb back on and see if it's better. I put the Billet tron carb on and thought it was better than stock. But I'll try it again.
@@moto67e first let me lead with your bike is Sick dude, extremely nice build that seems well thought out.
Ill be honest and say up front I have a bone to pick about lectrons so I stay vocal about it to whoever will listen. Please take no offense sir. If you’ll have it I’d like to provide some advice and you can take it or leave it as you see fit. Mileage may vary.
Imo the stock mikuni carbs pretty terrible too. They sputter off bottom when jetted correct and pull like banshees at WOT. They give the bike a very pipey feel. If you run them dangerously lean to get the response off the bottom it gets sketchy for the motor in deep loam. They’ll start to ping. I had a 18 250sx with 18:1 compression that I had the lectron on. I had to row the clutch like it was a 125 to get it out of corners. Swapped back to a keihin 36 I bought from dicks racing with a taper bore and a torque wing. I gave him the option of 3 carbs to modify and asked his opinion on them all. Keihin was his choice. The guy knows carbs and his advice fell right in line with what I already knew from spending the time jetting. Bike could easily pull a gear high once I went back to the keihin when the lectron would leave me hammering clutch.
Go snag a keihin 36 for it. You won’t be disappointed, give dicks racing a call if you need something with a bit more than the standard 36 offers up top. Your throttle response and tractability off the bottom end will go through the roof. I have 2 300s currently 18te and a 19tx. Both run keihins. One I run the standard 36 airstryker pwk and the other has the dicksracing keihin carb. The one with dicks carb has an rk tek head. Also 18:1. Im running a scalvini system on it as well. Very similar to your bike except that mine is a TX so it’s not going to have the light crank and aggressive cdi box that yours does. I hope you find the keihin to your liking if you go that route. I spent entirely too much money and time to figure this out with my race bike. I chase jetting perfection constantly (personal problem…. I know) and it just couldn’t be found with the lectron.
@@user-mo8tm4jw2l No offense taken.
Oof 😮
