Frankie, I fell onto your vids a couple of months back and I just wanted to say thank you for putting it out there. I’ve been a designer for over 10 years and I’m finally taking steps to doing my own thing, rather than someone else’s. All the advice on here is truly a gold mine, and it’s been incredibly helpful. All the best.
I came across your channel recently, and it's its one of the few times my recommended page has delivered. Unlike a lot of the graphic design content I see online, your content feels real and organic. I appreciate how you talk to us as an audience instead of talking at us and even though you don't have a lot of videos I've learned a lot from you. Keep doing what your doing, I love your work and I love learning about your process.
Excellent content! You’re a Godsend and your content is priceless. I am 45 years old and have been a graphic designer for over 20 years, working as an in house designer, fresh out of school back in the late 90s/early 2000s. I am just now putting together my plan to go freelance and am looking to create visual identities and other brand assets. I desperately need to diversify my creative portfolio. I follow a lot of designers and have over the years and you present yourself and your work exquisitely. So grateful to have found you. Keep on keeping on. I look forward to future videos and whatever else you decide you want to offer and share. Godspeed!
That means the absolute world, thank you so much. I bet the process of designs back then was a lot different than now with all the programmes that we have access too! I honestly really appreciate you being here and leaving this lovely comment.
@ You are very welcome. The programs were different, somewhat. Illustrator was just getting a start so it wasn’t even part of the curriculum in schools and universities. Pagemaker and QuarkXPress were the standards for desktop publishing. Photoshop was in its early days too, but that’s where I started and latched on to it quickly. I am an old school analog collage artist as well; have been since I was about 10, so Photoshop was like a new toy and tool. It’s an old love I keep going back to, but oh how I enjoy the advances in creative technology and the various ways they keep us engaged.
This is so inspiring, my freelance didn't do well this year but this video give me hope. My problem was visibility I'm not putting myself out there enough and my groundwork was not solid enough
I feel you! Like I say the most important thing is getting your foundations set (website, past work, passion projects) then create as much content on all of this as you can, and you will get seen.
Yup! I talk about ways of making more money as a website designer on my channel but he’s not lying , the ways to make money are pretty similar to some ways I e spoken about. Do as much groundwork first and create your marketing strategy to put yourself out there more comfortably. You got it! 😁
This was such a wonderful video to watch as a beginner freelance designer. Thank you for providing such amazing information. It's also nice to see what it is like for you.
Hey man, love these videos! As someone who has been working in a graphic design role for nearly 5 years and sadly having my role made redundant, it feels like I'm starting all over again since graduating from Uni. In a process of trying to find myself again and I just wanted to say your content inspires me to keep going and stay positive. Keep up the great work, you're smashing it!
Hey man, I know plenty of freelancers who where in the exact same situation as you, and they've never looked back since going freelance. It will come quicker than you think. Appreciate you being here man
Man, your videos are so valuable! I'm kind of an anxious person at times, definitely when it comes to entrepreneur or freelance stuff. But your channel really helps me believe in myself and giving me the right tips and tricks to become more confident. Thanks for sharing all of this! Cheers from Belgium
@@thomasvanhove3652 ahh man! Thank you very much for being here and that makes my day you can take something from these videos. I appreciate you a lot, love to Belgium!
Thanks for being so clear and concise on your videos, Frankie. We really really appreciate it. Your approach to the topics that you address in your videos is truly unique. You let your personality show through in such a friendly way that I want to be friends with you haha Cheers from Brazil
Hey man, thank you for your honesty. It is so refreshing and relatable to people like me who are kinda torn between learning logo design or web design. I'm learning typography by designing some posters. What would you recommend-logo design or web design? What is more in demand?
This is very good information. I'm a full time graphic designer, but want to start making more fun content. I also agree with you about tik tok. I love browsing the platform, but people are not afraid to hurt your feelings.
Hello.Tell me please, I did not study to be a designer, but I practiced in Photoshop and I think I have a pretty good vision. The problem is that I want to take projects, but I'm afraid because I don't know how to do it exactly in the brand identity sequence and in what settings? In what settings from 0 to 100, canvas, text, logo. I understood that brandidentity, and there you need to create a logo, logo variations, color scheme, patterns, text, but how to understand all this? In Ai, in what sizes should I create a file? Should I come up with a font myself or write about the one I used from the Internet? Please, make a video from scratch to the end if you have a time for videos like that! I want to see both the canvas settings and how everything is created, the sequence and etc
Hey, I just came across your video-great video as always! 😊 I need some advice. I recently received my first inquiry for a design project to create an ebook through a client’s friend. However, before proceeding with the project, the client has requested that I need to design a few test pages. I clarified with them, and they explained that they want to ensure we are aligned on the design aesthetics eventhough I had shared with them my portfolio. Would this be considered the right way to proceed with the project?
Hey! That’s great congrats. I would charge them for the test pages, and if they decide they want to work with you then you can refund the charge of the test pages, however if they don’t won’t to work with you then at least you where paid for your time. I would personally never accept something like this because it could be a big waste of your time if you’re doing it for free and then they don’t want to work with you.
I am working a full time as graphic designer and I want to change city so I want to find other ways to get work. I have all the time people are asking me to work for them and I am doing often work for people as a freelancer and they like the work and they are speaking to friends do It's not difficult to get work. But I don't like my work. I feel so bad to go full time freelancer. I don't know what to do. I studied illustration not graphic design. I feel like I left me personal style and my identity I never had time to work it so I just making things that just people want without value.
"People want to work with people, not just portfolios." Well said! You have something special here, Frankie Harry!

Do you work local or global?
Hey, my clients are global, I don't really work with any local business, unless a really cool opportunity came along!
@FrankieHarryConnor Are all your clients inbound leads? Or do you do outreaches ( cold dm , cold email , cold call ) ?
@ I said in the video all my leads are inbound from content marketing
