  • Designing a great tent is one thing, but manufacturing it is another. The hub of our production process is our own Estonian facility, where we sew, set up, inspect, and approve the tents before they are shipped. In this video Petra Hilleberg takes you on a quick tour of our main tent factory in Rapla Estonia.

    As the former factory and main branch manager of a specialised protective clothing manufacturer, I am extremely impressed with every facet of your production process.
    Your Quality Control Inspection is unequalled and I am particularly impressed that each Specialist Professional Seamstress is personally responsible for constructing each complete tent to which they attach their name.
    The only other company I know of to do this is Aston Martin, whose Engineers attach a nameplate to each engine that they have individually built.
    I am also a former Motorcycle Mechanic and ran my own Motorcycle Workshop so I appreciate the pride of each of those Engineers, likewise your Specialist Professional Seamstresses.

    I have an ancient Stalon tunnel tent of 1986 - and still use it. Apart from some minor things all is well. Used it in heavy snow and storms in the Alps for a very long period. Its absolutely worth the money. Thanks Petra & the entire crew!

    have two - basically a winter and a 3 season tent - Absolutly love them. Learned a long time ago - pay once , cry once ;) - compared with other brands, the pricing is very competive, that is, if indeed you want a quality tent, and in that regard they are the top tier.

    I'm a huge (and very new) fan of Hilleberg. When I received my Nammatj 2 GT in November, I enjoyed reading the catalog, the stories about the company and tents. I'm starting a UA-cam channel about my outdoor activities, and my very first video will be a review and first setup of the tent. One thing I remark on specifically in the video is the name of the seamstress :) It is so nice to see this production in this video, to put faces to these stories that you write about in your catalog. Thank you for the love, thought, and care you put into each and every one of our tents.

    Supremely best tents made. I own the Stalon GT 2 and the Akto solo, still going strong after almost two decades. They are Sierra Nevada California proven. You feel invincible in a Hilleberg and the cheery yellow interior always brightens your day no matter what the weather.

    I own currently four of your tents: Nallo 2 from 1995 (that had been quite an investment for as a student!), a Keron 4 from 2000 (my "basecamp tent"), a Staika 2012 (which served me well EVERY day during a three month Canada motorcycle trip) and a Anjan 2 since last spring for the warmer summer days. All of them are still in use, depending on the time of the year and the activity. You can be proud of your products!

    This is why I own 2 Hillebergs (Soulo & Stika). A great company takes care of it people - those people make great products; which we customers happily pay for. I've owned many good tents, nothing comes close to a Hilleberg. I've been in some ugly weather in my Hilleberg's. I wouldn't own anything else. Keep up the fantastic work, your customers love the products.

    As an architectural engineer I noticed that the factory itself is a tunnel tent (without sloping ends). Nice to meet the people who build my reliable Nammatj who make me feel safe i all kinds of weather. Petra, I would recommend some sound barriers between some departments, at least from the factory - the lunch room. Keep making great tents and videos!

    why are all the employees female? Are they more efficient? Guess when you charge 1k+ per tent you can afford a masseur. Definitely increases employee loyalty, but does it increase production efficiency?

    • @joakim2k10
      @joakim2k10 5 років тому +1

      That’s obviously because sewing is a female dominated profession. The masseur probably decreases the total amount of sick leave days in the factory. Above all it’s nice to see that my tent maker of choice isn’t treating their employees like shit.

  • @brianbassett4379
    @brianbassett4379 5 років тому +1

    Now I can understand why Hilleberg hasn't done anything with Cuben fiber (Dyneema). They are so set in their production methods that they can't adapt to the new manufacturing requirements in the same space they construct standard (sewn) tents. That sucks too! I want a Keron 4 GT for long stay basecamps while ebike touring, but I will not buy another tent that isn't made of Dyneema. Lighter, stronger, waterproof (it will not absorb moisture) why would anyone? The biggest reason that it is still relatively expensive is that companies like Hilleberg haven't jumped in and committed to its use. That will cost them in the long run as other companies turn away from old school materials.

    • @HillebergTentmaker
      @HillebergTentmaker  5 років тому +3

      We constantly and continuously test new materials vigorously in the lab, in the field and in the windmachine and we have so far found that the performance attributes of our Kerlon fabric are the best that we can find.

    • @brianbassett4379
      @brianbassett4379 5 років тому

      @@HillebergTentmaker LOL!!!!! Sure, sure, because using a material that can absorb water and needs to be coated in silicone is better than using one that can't absorb moisture. Great answer, it confirms everything I said. Enjoy the ride to the bottom Hilleberg maybe K-Mart will start unloading your tents for ya. No, just kidding, they will be selling Dyneema tents too. Maybe marketing them for deserts is your best bet.
