      I have a question, is the Divine Mother that I read and heard about regarding Sri Ramakrishnas devotion the same as the shakti Divine intelligence and deffinately always a feminine principle? And Regarding surrender to the divine mother are there methods,techniques besides Bhakti devotions ?

    • @ForrestKnutson
      @ForrestKnutson  5 років тому +2

      @@soaringcrow5077 Yes, that's correct, as I see it. She is the driving Force and Intelligence behind our own growth as a child, in Nature, and in our very awakening. The story goes that she waits at the base of the spine, while Shiva waits for her at the top in the Padma of the brain. The holy mountain of Kailash, then is the skull, and Shiva sits in meditation atop it. ... Surrender! Great question! There is a great misnomer about the different yogas of the Gita. They actually describe one process, and when in mediation we see, hear, or experience knowing of the Higher Self, then we will of course fall in love with That. That is the process of Bhakti Yoga. ... In meditation there is a play that happens with the different brain waves. The Alpha and Theta brainwaves will swell and spike as we enter a trance or the hypnagogic state. Then that will recede as we enter deeper into the spine and brain, awakening the Gamma brainwaves. To pass through that Alpha and Theta state takes some letting go. Takes some embracing of the unconscious. ... That's a lot to throw at you. I hope something I said makes sense and is useful to you!

    Wow, you really packed an unbelievable amount of information into this video and clarified so many things. While I have seen this information before, the way you present really resonates with me. I am definitely going to have to study this video further. You mentioned that there were two padmas or lotuses on either side of the heart. I have never heard that before and was wondering if you could provide some further elucidation? Many thanks for this video and all of your other work!

    • @ForrestKnutson
      @ForrestKnutson  4 роки тому +1

      Stephen! I so glad you saw this one, and enjoyed it! That theory, of the padmas to either side of the heart, is cited in several yogic texts, mentioned by a few teachers, and referenced by Joan Harrigan in the books I list under my videos. What I believe it is, actually, is the work of the caudate nucleus on either side of the brain, as it projects into the region of the heart, along with the Left Amygdala, which is the center of profound bliss in the body. After going into samadhi, the energy may come to rest in this region for the yogi, as he goes about his day in a state of semi-bliss. That's one possible outcome, though the actual experience may vary widely from one person to the next.

    Best meditation channel on youtube! It is never a bore to watch your videos even when they are long. It is quite enjoyable and refreshing I must say. I'm also curious about that purification process of Lahiri Mahasaya, like when you start to that process and then quit, what happens to the psyche? Like what if you go down to that road and call the quits before the purification is over or reached to some hill.

    • @ForrestKnutson
      @ForrestKnutson  5 років тому +2

      Thank you, Mert!
      First I think it depends on which "kriya" you are practicing, as not all lineages are created equal. Also, now other schools have begun to call their programs "kriya" increasing the confusion. So I'm speaking only for the line that I practice, which comes by way of Panchanan Bhattacharya, which has done an amazing job of keeping this original version of Lahiri Baba's teaching correct. This was designed by Lahiri Mahasaya to be used by householders, and to produce meditative mellows, as I mentioned in the video. That's something that I would like to correct in the Kriya World: meditative mellows. You can actually start that process of mellows very very early in your practice. So, let's break this down:
      1. Designed for busy householders
      2. Designed to be slow and gentle
      3. Designed to create meditative mellows early
      4. Different process than Patanjali's chitta vritti nirodha
      5. Based on the body's natural processes (like HRV)
      In that light, it is actually the best meditation you could possibly do in this day and age. That's not to say it is a fit for every single person. But I do believe it is a fit for a large number interested in meditation. Lahiri Baba often called it Sahaja Yoga, rather than kriya, which means natural.
      Using that original method I see no draw back from starting and stopping. It's not advantageous to the deepening of your meditative practice, which needs to build up over time, however it isn't disadvantageous to your life. In the Gita there is a promise written that no effort of yoga is ever lost. It all adds to the final process.

    Forrest, thank you so much. I am a kriyaban drawn by devotion to the path of yoga. I am very interested in yogic philosophy, but avoided it out of confusion. This gives it clarity and I would like to learn more. I have a question concerning practice: when I concentrate energy on the heart center deeply (accompanied by a focus on the kutastha), I have noticed that I automatically go into a muladhara bhanda and can feel energy going up to the kutastha. At times I will feel the energy in the limbs. I have asked kriyacharyas about this, but I have not been given a satisfying answer, but for some reason, I feel drawn to practice this in my meditations. Would you be able to clarify this experience? Blessings (if this falls under counseling, please let me know and I will contact you at you e-mail for a session) Blessings

      Wow, a HUGE subject! I've been planning / wanting to do a series on Time Line Therapy, and its relevance to Lahiri Baba's kriya yoga system. That would more than get the conversation started.
      The Great Barrier is ALL of our history. Our Negative Emotions and Limiting Decisions from the past. This is why every shamanistic tradition (including Kriya) starts with cleaning. That process is a BIG one, and not entirely easy to solve.

    Thank you for this wonderful video Forrestji. A question: What is the connection between the three knots of Lahiri Mahasaya and the opening of the chakras/ cleansing of the nadis? In your book you mention entering the spine on penetrating the Kutastha, is the work on clearing the chakras done after resolving the third knot?

    • @ForrestKnutson
      @ForrestKnutson  5 років тому +2

      Thank you Ashwinji!!
      The "cleaning" of the chakras takes place from the moment we begin practicing Lahiri Baba's Kriya. I'm working on a whole series of videos that will talk around kriya, which I think will offer some insights we haven't seen before. One of these will be on the Thalamus and kriya, and one will be on the Polyvagal Theory and the Gita. These two views offer a deeper insight into what's actually going on. It also explains why Kriya is a slow build process. You know? It's not like a pill, but instead is like a slow scrub on the spine and brain, taking many repetitions. Ashwin, I feel bad every time you ask me a fantastic question, my response is, yes I'm working on a video on that! Well, I hope that I have followed through so far, and that you are getting answers!

    Wonderful explanations, you're a great teacher Forrest. I'm curious about something, what is your personal opinion on the miracles witnessed in "Autobiography of a yogi" ? For me, I believe in them despite never seeing proof because there is already so many things that are amazing today, like TV, computers, internet. In the book after Lahiri Mahasaya died, he appeared at 3 different locations at the same time at 10 am (i think). How are things like this possible by practicing kriya yoga? Is that only for enlightened souls, do you think someone like Sadhguru could do it if he wanted to? Or maybe yourself even? Honestly, nothing surprises me anymore. I have already experienced some things beyond the physical, shaking, trembling and heavy emotions in meditation.

      That's a great question. I would encourage you to read two books which are under each of my videos. Purana Purusha and... wait let me copy it for you...
      Books based on Lahiri Mahasaya's Diaries:
      Purana Purusha: bit.ly/2L63luB
      On Amazon: amzn.to/2UNMEw1
      Who is this Shama Churn?: bit.ly/2QBxQOn
      On Amazon: amzn.to/2IBMqBN
      These are based on Lahiri Baba's diaries, and shed so much light on Babaji and their first meeting which was in meditation, not in the hills with a golden palace.
      So, as much as I love the AY, it's really a greatly embellished story. There is a ton of truth in it, but we have to sift through all the miracles. That's not to say I don't believe in miracles. I just place a higher importance on the miracle of experiencing bliss within meditation.

    Initially what we think is Kundalini Awakening are the kria's or muscular twitches. This is where kriya yoga gets its name. The serpent Awakening on the other hand is not the prana's. It feels like a serpent traveling up your spine. That's why it's named serpentfire or Kundalini which means coiled serpent. As it peirces each chakra and enlivens or awakens them which is the emotional system which is related to the endocrine system but that's another topic for a different time. It moves like a serpent because it travels left and right, up the spine while the great force goes through the Shushumna. The Great Mother behind all creation and self-realization. No you are not feeling the prana's those are the Kria's which began to awaken the Kundali Force or the serpent Fire Within which produces consciousness. In the body energy is either static or potential. The potential lies asleep. Much does our brain. True Awakening is beyond. It is at the fourth state of consciousness. The marriage in heaven Shakti and Shiva is consciousness and energy. The same feeling you get when you have an orgasm. The purpose of Awakening Kundalini is to vitalize the higher vehicles of our consciousness. Through pranayama we may achieve this aim and under control. To unite with our father in Heaven, which is our higher Self and Mastery over the Physical Realm.

    OK, this is where my questions have been un-answered, maybe now answered?, not sure. With the Tibetan work that I had been doing I got lots of energy? coming down through the bindu which I generally had a clear feeling at all times. I got blasted in a major way when I did a chi gung technique for the first time in years, and it was like bindu plugged into a lightning bolt of ecstasy. So when you are feeling what I would call a body of bliss all the time and can't stop smiling what do you call that, or where are you at then? (other than awesome/heaven) Are you feeling the causal body? what does that mean? This was accompanied by disassociation and the heart being funny which have both stopped. Seemed like I had a blockage from a back injury which my rekei friend seems to have fixed but it was weird, one day I saw a grey fog exit my chest like a fart. lol

There's a 2nd bliss, which is not of the body, which is of the Left Amygdala. That bliss is like an avalanche, which you only hope to survive. Then there's the expansion of the Right Hippocampus. When you have all of that, I would call that a stage of Enlightenment.

    Been mediating on/off for few years. On one occasion I felt bliss on waking up from my sleep which lasted a few hours. Is that what you called bliss body or am I not understanding the concept?

      Yes that's correct. That's a taste of it.

    Hi forrest.... Correct this if something is wrong.... Shouldn't kundalini shakti be placed in pranamay kosh... Kundalini the shakti is at muladhaar chakra and it goes all the way up to sahasrar.... In meditation we focus on energy and breathing which influences manomay kosh which consists of thoughts... Also 3 Gunas lie here... The more dominant one's thoughts are the more the quantity of that Guna.... If one's energy is higher, the lesser the thoughts... Meaning if one wants to reach God we can say satva is higher... Or if one wants to become rich rajo guna is higher.... Then biggest obstacle is anandmaya kosh.... In samadhi states we still have dual feeling like I feel so blissful.... I believe once anandmay kosh is dissolved, shakti reaches sahasrar and unites with Brahman.... Called as union of Shiva and shakti..... Don't know I thought so deeply on this.... Please correct if it's wrong..... Many thanks 😊

      Hi Rohit! Great to hear from you! Joan Harrigan argues that Kundalini is intelligence, which drives the 5 vital airs. So, it is not energy. Shakti doesn't translate as energy, but as power. In this explanation, as the power of intelligence, which is then moving the "energy." I've since placed all of these forces in line with the parts of the brain, and now agree with Joan more than ever. ..... Gunas are in everything, but they are fundamental, and beginning right out of the source. So, even though they can be used and experienced in the lower levels (indeed, the lower levels wouldn't work without them), their conceptual source must be directly close to the source.....Thank you so much Rohit, and I love what you had to say!

    Udana helps facilitate the upper movement of Consciousness, psychic ability, balanced and Transcendence. Look at Kundalini as a vehicle that moves Consciousness to a higher state of awareness. The higher Self is what you will meet in heaven. It many times comes in the form of Christ Buddha even Krishna. This is no joke people. Those who think it is a joke are already with the dead and ignorant. There are different levels and vibrations of existence to the highest beings of consciousness. Just because it is unseen doesn't mean it is not reality. In fact your world is unreality this is why it is called Maya. Yours is the lowest realm of Ego.
