  • On August 28, 2015 a small team of Nike athletes went overseas to Chamonix, France to compete in some of the biggest ultra endurance events in the world.
The UTMB® (Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc) is a 170 km/105 mile race circumventing the Alps, crossing into 3 countries with over 33,000 ft of elevation gain.
The CCC® (Chamonix-Courmayeur-Champex) is a 101 km race starting in Courmayeur, Italy and also finishing in Chamonix, France. This race has over 20,000 ft of positive elevation change.
Both events are considering one of the toughest at its respective distances. American men have not typically fared well there. As such, Nike athletes David Laney (UTMB), Tim Tollefson (CCC) and Zach Miller (CCC) set out to prove that American men can compete and compete well in the imposing European mountains.

What an epic film! Content is so widely available these days that it's too easy forget the amount of work that goes into creating it - thanks for making this and making it free for all to watch!

I really liked your video. I don't run 100 miles but at 66 years old I do mountain trekking (Mt. Kilimanjaro, Inca Trail, Grand Canyon). I like to watch your videos while I'm training on the treadmill in my basement. Yes, treadmill. I live at sea level with no hills so that's the best I can do. I put the incline all the way up and carry a 20 pound backpack. Your videos keep me going.

I really forgot how incredible epic this movie is, Billy. 2015 was the first time I was in Chamonix. 2015 was the time I decided to take up on ultra-running and compete in the UTMB. I qualified, but in 2018 and 2019 I had to drop out both times due to heavy hallucinations. I will be back, and your movie acts as my reminder to why, why I should and why I would want to be back. Cheers.

Thanks to Billy and your film, I got the chance to work for COROS and know Tim & David. Last November, I worked as a companion for Tim during his trip to China and UTMS 50K. Great storytelling and awesome cinematographing Billy. Thank you for sharing your gift with us. I happened to be there in person racing UTMB and you successfully captured the feelings of the race environment and mountainous terrain. I had the privilege of flying back to the USA with the Nike team and they were so humble about their accomplishments and sincerely complementary towards my meager personal success. My view instantly changed for the better towards team Nike and now I hope your video does the same for many more.

No. Using that quote is disgusting. These racers are people (like me) who have to manufacture challenges in life. Churchill was talking about people who were afraid of being destroyed in war. It‘s beyond disrespectful to take those words and use them like some speech from Braveheart.

Nice vid, Billy! You tell a great story with plenty of emotion. And, as always, the shots are beautiful.
If I could offer a bit of constructive criticism… One thing I’ve noticed in many of your vids is that your music edits are often rather abrupt. When it happens, it’s only once or twice in a video, but it can be a bit jarring and distracts from the otherwise great feel of each piece. It can be a matter of just waiting a second too long to fade out the music, or maybe not fading out at all. Mind you, I’m no expert on the subject, so take what I say with a grain of salt. But music is so important in the feel of a film and I’d love to see and hear everything come together even better in your work.
Anyway, just my two cents. You do great work and I hope what I’ve said helps you get even better. :)

Like the pop unknown song “ writing it down for you” I “ keep coming back again and again to you” every year I fall off the cardio I come back to watch this. I have been lifting heavy for a few months and I always end up depressed and I need to run to feel better. The weights just don’t do it. Nothing like running for miles.

I’m watching this and other ultra racing videos because October 2020, I tripped and tore my right shoulder up pretty bad. It’s been 6 months, I’m not 100% but I got in my first 25K this morning on a tough course, yeah I finished it and it reminds me of my love for trail running.

Great film Billy! Loved this one. Just an FYI, not sure if this is supposed to happen or not, but the ads are playing every 3-4 minutes through this video. I don't mind the occasional ad but it seems excessive. Just thought I'd let you know in case they aren't supposed to be that frequent. I'll always watch your videos regardless though! Cheers!
