Mr. Walsh, I can't tell you how grateful I am for this particular youtube video. I have a 13 year old daughter who is an artist and crafter and knitter--basically all the visual arts. I have struggled for years to understand why she has to keep everything out in the open, why she needs so many supplies, why they must be all stored near her work space, why the pretty containers never work for her. Now, thanks to this clutter fairy lady, I get it. Thank you for the tips of the 4 categories (main supplies, embellishments, books, and tools) as well as advice for CLEAR (not translucent) storage, and a label maker and a way to store "in-process" projects. All of this has been needed by the little artist in my home, but I had no idea why or how to help her. We have our organizing work cut out for us, but now I know what the plan is, and I thank you. : )
You offered wonderful information in clearly spoken ideas. Now my bead studio is set up in the four areas. Thank you for your great ideas. It took me a good three months. Now I have also addressed my painting and sewing areas as well. Wonderful to use your ideas to create my dream studio. Divided into three sections it is wonderful to create.
That is really awesome to hear!! And I'm not surprised that it took three months - to get it right. Any serious crafter owns way too much stuff to make that happen in a weekend. I'd love to see photos, it you have some. I'm glad it helped you make your dream studio!!
This is exactly what I needed! I am a beader myself, and every time I get to my “craft space” or decluttering and organization I only feel like there are videos for paper crafters. ThAnk you so much!!
I so appreciate this as an organizer seeking ways to further help my clients, as an artist (although not on this scale), and a fellow Houstonian. Thank you so much!
You are so welcome! I hope you're coming to the NAPO conference in Ft.Worth in April 4-7, 2019. If you do please say hi! I'll be running around with the other NAPO Houston chicks!
Hi Peter! Thank you so much for having Gayle on as your Organizing Pal! Thanks to you I found her :DHi Gayle! I went over to your channel and watched a few of your videos. You are extremely helpful!!! I just subscribed to you :D My favorite hobby is beading. I do have my large bead collection all in containers, thou one day I need to re do them all into "TOTALLY CLEAR" containers!! That truly would make a huge difference! CeCe from California
I'm so glad Gayle is one of your pals! I look forward to her videos each month, she always has timely tips and the craft room focus is great - visibility!
Great Tips! As a Quilter and a Card Maker I find that many of your tips hold true for both hobbies. I love having my supplies on display so I can see what I have and also because It looks beautiful when it is all organized in color order. My two craft rooms are definitely my happy places, but when they are unorganized I do not feel like creating.
Awesome video filled with real life suggestions on how to organize your jewelry making stuff... well anything actually. I have been using the clear containers for years, so I agree many are not really clear at all.
Oh my gosh! She is so right about crafters and artists are visual types of people. I never really thought of this when organizing my craft room. Which explains why nothing is put away when I work on things! I need to have my stuff available. Big wake up call for me.
This is probably one of the best videos I've watched...and actually I watched it when it was first posted here and I am proud to say that a lot of what Gayle talked about in this video rang so true for me that I actually internalized the messages and have been slowly but steadily incorporating her ideas and suggestions as I've been working reorganizing my craft space. I have added see through stacked blocks on my desktop where I can house all my most used tools as well as markers and pens. They are easy to see, grab and use. I also ordered some risers designed for nail polish which I am using to house most of my inks and sprays and some of my paints. I can quickly see the color I want, grab it and just as quickly and easily return it to it's home so it doesn't become clutter on my workspace! Such freedom in that -- you have no idea! Well, maybe you do! LOL There are other ways I have been subconsciously incorporating her ideas into my craft, but those are the most recent additions. I just got excited because youtube recommended this video to me today and I watched it nor realizing I had seen it already until I started watching and as I watched I just kept going, hmmmm,, that's where that idea came from! So thank you, Peter and Gayle! :)
Gayle Goddard thanks again for all these wonderful ideas, Gayle. Craft room still a will..actually changing rooms, and continuing to incorporate your suggestions. all my craft books are in one location now, with room enough to add any strays that may turn up 😊
It's so nice to hear that UA-cam is recommending the video to crafters. It's also great to hear that I'm in your head, rolling around helping you change your room up! LOL! Thanks for telling your story!
Dear Peter, I have watched you for years and learned so much thank you . The lady who did this video has also been very helpful. Thank you both and may God bless and keep you both and your roomate and the cat....I have 2 Himalayan cats. Lovingly Lynne Bash
Planning the room and storage in advance makes it easier to keep adding craft supplies as you acquire them. Just know the more you have, the more you have to adapt the systems. Build the systems with some expandable capacity so you're not out of space as soon as you get set up!
I sure wish I did so you could come by. I just bead from my closet LOL! When my kids were young I didn't have a place to bead but the kitchen table, so my husband built me a table in my closet and I 've been there ever since. Maybe I will run into you one day in one the bead stores. See you soon. 😉

WOW! This was an eye opener for me Gayle as I was getting ready to declutter my painting room and I can see that the rules are a bit different than they would be for the rest of the house. I need to change the "furniture". No wonder my painting room is constantly falling into disarray. Of course we all have to maintain but it should be easier with the "right" set-up. Thank you.
Gayle! So good to see into the mysterious craft room. I've heard you refer to it in your channel. As always clear and concise advice. I'm not a beader but the order, colours, and atmosphere of the room is so enticing. I am very pleased that you are doing with Peter. Congratulations Peter for collaborating with another of my favourite organisers. Maybe I should just get a list of them and send it to you. Now where are they hiding... I need an organiser for that!
Great video, Gayle. Your studio is beautiful. I definitely will be using these tips. It made so much sense when you mentioned the correlation between being creative & needing to see our "things" Now...can you please explain that to my husband???? Lol Have a wonderful week, Gayle. :) Thanks again
Great tips. I am constantly at a loss to organizing my scrap room. I find I am not scrapping as much as I used to and purged what I did not use, but still would like to keep a few things in case I pick it up again. I'm going to use your tips to help me out. Thank you
Omg Peter and Gayle! Love you too Gayle and loved your craft room ideas. Recently reorganised my art supplies. Three boxes down to one. It was tempting to just get a much bigger so I can say that. But I was disciplined. Still not painting though. Too much other stuff. 👍🏻
Love your beading table and ideas. It really makes sense. Now to figure out where to get those clear staggered shelves you have all your seed beads tubes in?
Thank you so much for your input. Wish you were here to help me get my craft room together as I moved in to a new house several months ago and it is quite overwhelming.

I completely agree with you about clear containers. I love to sew mostly and do some crafting. I have everything marked as to what is in each box or container.
Hi, wonderful advice! Where did you buy the project boxes? You mentioned they were for storing photos but you used them to store your unfinished projects. Love them! Thanks again for all the great advice.

I'd love a tour of what was in all the containers Behind your work desk and other than your roommates trays. I know this video was 3 years ago now, but I'm still interested in knowing. I have amassed quite a lot of beads and findings of all types - gemstones, seed beads, pearls, glass pearls, Czech glass, etc. Haven't found an organization solution yet that covers how many beads I actually have. Sad, I know.
LOL! Not sad, but typical! I have findings in segmented boxes in one place. I have seed beads out on the racks and extra in boxes on the rack against the wall. I have clear thin segmented boxes that I use for lamp work beads, pearls, czech glass beads like leaves, flowers, and rondelles, pinch beads, super duos, etc. I have crystals and fire polish on separate lazy Susan's on the work surface. I just tend to put like with like in crystal clear containers so I can pick up one to three or five trays and see all my pearls, for instance. LOL!
Me too! Check out Texas Bead Retreat someday if you want to come to a retreat: It's in January every year. Watch here for more details in the Fall for the 2020 event. www.texasbeadretreat.com
How did you know? Great tips because I have redone my craft room, stripping wallpaper and repainted and getting ready to hang shelves. Thank you Garland Peter
A tip: if you don't have or want to get a label maker, use white Artist's tape and a Sharpie. I use it to both label bins/boxes and bead tubes (when they aren't already labeled). Once advantage is you can remove the tape easily.
I have a serious issue.. I have multiple crafting obsessions that I can not just have one main thing like coloring scrapbooking beading ect.. I do all of them more than just a once in a while thing.. is this ok like I'm so overwhelmed when I have my dream craft room will I have room and be able to keep up will I ever be able to succeed greatly in doing all of them. Ughhh idk I can't even put in words how I'm trying to ask this question
Lots of people play in more than one craft at a time. If that's you, then you will build a craft room with multiples zones for each craft. I once knew a serious multiple crafter who moved and I unpacked and set up her craft rooms. We used two separate bedrooms, with multiple zones in each rooms. One was all fabric based crafts, with sewing machines etc. Then there was metal working and beads in that room. The second room was paper based crafts, so scrapbooking and mixed media and card making, then polymer clay with a few others thrown in. It can be done, you just need a plan for each craft you want to be able to do. Call me when you're ready to plan!
As my parents owned a sewing machine shop with fabric and haberdashery etc, my sewing room is set up like a shop as it means everything is on display with exception of my quilting fat quarter that are in under bed boxes so they are still easily seen with or without the lid but makes them stackable. Basically, it is about accessibility. Very visual but it means I have a studio not a room. Yes I have a lot of fabric, patterns etc Yes I have project boxes just bigger and I do not mix my projects in boxes
I live in Cape Town in South Africa and I do several different types of crafting though in a very tiny space. A corner lot of my tiny 1 room apartment I do multi media art. Sewing and embroidery, crochet, scrapbiiking, beading and diy it looks like an episode of hoarders at the moment I'm planning on actually taking leave from work for a week to organise it all next week. Any ideas.p.s I don't have a lot of money or access to fancy organizers.
I am with you! I do beading, sewing, nail art, spin wool, crochet, and need storage for all those suppllies. I've got a set of shelves my husband put up for me & I'm going to store all beading stuff together, all yarn together, etc. Good luck to you! The clear organizers thing is huge! I've had to memorize what is in my "translucent" organizers.... waah.
That's a lot of different crafts in such a small space. I hope you got it set up how you wanted it. In any small space, maintaining it and keeping it set up in containers that you can stack will help you manage in a small space. Also, head up the wall with lots of shelves - it'll help give you some floor space.
Great tips. Thank you. I'm always at odds with my "stash." Esp. liked the clear container tip. I use the project boxes (scrapbook sized) and those zip mesh/plastic bags. Your studio is beautiful :)
I've seen those stackable round containers at places like Hobby Lobby and Michaels, but you can also get them from Fire Mountain Gems or try Rio Grande Jewelry.
I use photo boxes from Michaels. They run them 5/$10 and I just bought 30 of them for my quilting supplies. I got the idea from an uber organized mother and daughter. The mom keep all her craft supplies and her home looks super good.

Im in the process of purging and reorganizing my craft room. I keep telling my husband i have to see everything. Hes not an artist so he doesnt undedstand. But im using clear shoe organizers and jars. I wish i could show pics here.
any tips for those of us who don't have a dedicated craft room? I do my crafting on the dining room table and have to put everything away in a closet almost every day so that the table can be used for meals.
Hi Dee Dee, I saw that Gayle already replied & I had a lot of the same ideas. I also used to craft on my dining room table & a rolling cart really helped me. I Googled "roller craft cart" & found this if your interested (just to see what I was talking about) www.fleetfarm.com/detail/Adeptus-6-Drawer-Mobile-Storage-Cart/0000000036562?Bsearch&Bproduct%20search&gslfah&gclid=Cj0KEQiAsP-2BRCFl4Lb2NTJttEBEiQAmj2tbXBJ8WMJK20zTUA1_-GNd2wY4QJQF-G7L4qoapgp_PQaAj9t8P8HAQ Joanns always has carts too & as a fellow crafter...I'm sure I don't have to mention the coupon :) Good luck. Happy Organized Crafting!
I'm so sorry that link is so long....I had no idea it would do that. Just Google & you should find it. The one I saw actually looked like a nice piece of wooden furniture.
Well I’ve got my dining table covered in beads wire tools etc etc!😂😂😂 oh we eat our meals in the lounge on trays! I’d need a big trailer to sort out my crafts. I have loads f stamps dies paints card in my spare room!🫣🫣🥰🥰🥰💕💕💕❤️🐶🇬🇧🇬🇧
And of course, the placement of the cat is on your lap! Thanks for the good video, you are right in that it is all visual. My partner does not get that point.
I had to watch this video for two reasons: first - I am a beader, second - I wanted to see your cat. Your cat looks like my beloved Chesser who transited at 19 years of age.
Welcome to the crafter's party! You can get it back together, just know it's going to take awhile and some concerted effort to do it. But it'll worth it!!
I like to use stackable recycle crates with front facing lids, so the yarn stays dust free and can be categorized in whatever way you like. Here's an example or two: www.wayfair.com/storage-organization/pdp/iris-usa-inc-deep-plastic-box-iri2221.html or www.amazon.com/WTM-CBCL-24-Stackable-Hinged-24-Quart/dp/B009L9PELG/ref=asc_df_B009L9PELG/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167148561991&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1326880441311842687&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9027645&hvtargid=pla-309633186212&psc=1 Also, you can use drop-front boxes in the same way: www.wayfair.com/storage-organization/pdp/iris-usa-inc-deep-plastic-box-iri2221.html

Wow, this is so thorough and helpful for crafters! Yes, visual is KEY for creative types :)
Here I am thinking I was terrible.. I do all these things! Just gotta keep up the good work. Extremely good video!

Gayle Goddard um seems I'd forgotten I found this 9 months ago. And my doctor says I don't have a memory problem!
You are talking my language right now. I am a crafter. I do paper crafts and mixed media. Thanks for all the info :)
You're welcome!

Fabulous video Gayle. I use most of the techniques you described but learned some new ones too. Thank you!
Thanks Diane!
Wow, Gayle, that's fantastic! I'm not a crafter or a beader, but I've got LOTS of stuff after being in my house for 21 years. AARGH. :)
Thanks Gayle. Peter was wise in seeking your expertise!
Could you please how us what beading is, never seen beading before. Nice craft room.
Great video, Gayle. Your studio is beautiful. I definitely will be using these tips. It made so much sense when you mentioned the correlation between being creative & needing to see our "things" Now...can you please explain that to my husband???? Lol
Have a wonderful week, Gayle. :) Thanks again
Thank you for this! I’m an avid planner, and I’m working on organizing my planning desk to use on a regular basis. This was incredibly helpful to me!
Great tips. I am constantly at a loss to organizing my scrap room. I find I am not scrapping as much as I used to and purged what I did not use, but still would like to keep a few things in case I pick it up again. I'm going to use your tips to help me out. Thank you
Good luck - I hope you were able to downsize your stash to a good keeping size.
Thank you so much made it so much easier to figure out how to organize and be creative at the same time. Love you butch!
I love the track concept. I need those white trays!

they are make up storage units, you can get them at the cheap shops/dollar stores
I completely agree with you about clear containers. I love to sew mostly and do some crafting. I have everything marked as to what is in each box or container.
Labeling really helps!
You said something That I've never heard anyone else say - have room to expand your supplies! Only a crafter gets that.
No point in building a system to house your supplies that is full as soon as you set it up! You know we're still out there buying supplies!!
thanks for this great tutorial.. Where can i get those white boxes u showed at the end ( which were labeled) ?

Thank you. All your suggestion were excellent. I do quilting and mix media so organization is key. I wish I had learned this sooner : )
You got it when you needed it - now you can plan for this when you need to expand.
LOL!
@@TheClutterFairy Thank you for the reply! :-)
Lots of great tips
Thanks!
I love bead wark
Me too! Check out Texas Bead Retreat someday if you want to come to a retreat: It's in January every year. Watch here for more details in the Fall for the 2020 event. www.texasbeadretreat.com
Thank you Gail this was very helpful.
Thanks!
Good ideas. I have a pegboard wall with all of my beads in clear bags (labeled). Easy to see at a glance, great for design. 😊
Gayle Goddard I don't do beading but your setup is drool-worthy.
That's a great idea! Pegboard works well for beads!
How did you know? Great tips because I have redone my craft room, stripping wallpaper and repainted and getting ready to hang shelves. Thank you Garland Peter
Glad the suggestions were timely.
thank you Gayle, I always enjoy your work, and these are great tips! :-))
Thank you!
Great tips! Only wish I'd seen this BEFORE I worked on my hobby room, Time for some redo!
A tip: if you don't have or want to get a label maker, use white Artist's tape and a Sharpie. I use it to both label bins/boxes and bead tubes (when they aren't already labeled). Once advantage is you can remove the tape easily.
Thanks for the tip!
Yes I have a lot of fabric, patterns etc
Yes I have project boxes just bigger and I do not mix my projects in boxes
Exactly - you totally get it!
Thanks! I love that studio!
I have a question. Where did you get the round containers and tic-tac boxes from?
I've seen those stackable round containers at places like Hobby Lobby and Michaels, but you can also get them from Fire Mountain Gems or try Rio Grande Jewelry.
What are the photo boxes that you said you use for project boxes? They are perfect but I'm not sure what to even call them to search :)
I use photo boxes from Michaels. They run them 5/$10 and I just bought 30 of them for my quilting supplies. I got the idea from an uber organized mother and daughter. The mom keep all her craft supplies and her home looks super good.

Can you tell me exactly what those trays were that your room mate used please?
Here's an example from Fire Mountain Gems - www.firemountaingems.com/itemdetails/h201339pk
May I ask where you got the seat bead tier storage at?
Very nice workspace.
where did you get the clear shelves that the seed bead tubes sit on? I loved this video and have since watched some of your others-great presentation and spot on the emotional vibe :)

Wow what a amazing room full of beads. Do you live in Houston?
I do live in Houston!
Where can I find the multiple level storage containers that hold your seed beads on your work table?
Try the Container Store
She did awesome!
I love your ideas I'm going to try it
Very helpful. Thanks
You're welcome!
Wow I know a star. That was great.

beautiful....thank you for all the tips...will be using them :D
You're welcome!
hi gayle , love your video i LOVE to do latch hook rugging.
I am using clear containers and also jars. I wish you could help me with my mess!
I'd love to help - craft rooms are my favorite organizing project!!
Thank you Gail
You're welcome!
Can you please tell me where you got your pencil holder please i need that i. My life
I plan to. I'm down sizing because my husband is retiring in four years. Trust me it's going to take me that long to get through it.
Im in the process of purging and reorganizing my craft room. I keep telling my husband i have to see everything. Hes not an artist so he doesnt undedstand. But im using clear shoe organizers and jars. I wish i could show pics here.
Just give yourself a way to easily pull out the shoe organizers and jars you want. Give them an easy way to be put away and pulled out again.
any tips for those of us who don't have a dedicated craft room? I do my crafting on the dining room table and have to put everything away in a closet almost every day so that the table can be used for meals.
Hi Dee Dee, I saw that Gayle already replied & I had a lot of the same ideas. I also used to craft on my dining room table & a rolling cart really helped me. I Googled "roller craft cart" & found this if your interested (just to see what I was talking about)

Joanns always has carts too & as a fellow crafter...I'm sure I don't have to mention the coupon :)
Good luck. Happy Organized Crafting!
I'm so sorry that link is so long....I had no idea it would do that. Just Google & you should find it. The one I saw actually looked like a nice piece of wooden furniture.
+Gayle Goddard thanks. Great tips.
+Jennifer Micek thanks. I'll look for one.
love the beads in tic tac boxes
Great tips... Thank you.
Very helpful, thank you!
You're welcome!
And of course, the placement of the cat is on your lap! Thanks for the good video, you are right in that it is all visual. My partner does not get that point.
I;m sorry to hear he died, 23 is quite old. I enjoyed seeing him. I have a cat who is 20, his name is trouble and he makes sure he lives up to it.
I had to watch this video for two reasons: first - I am a beader, second - I wanted to see your cat. Your cat looks like my beloved Chesser who transited at 19 years of age.
I still miss my little Butchie! He was such a loving kitty.
I make jewelry. Any specialized tips for me?
Great tips !!
Wow!
😊😊
My room was organized at one point. Now it's just clutter on the working space. I need help!!
Time to dig in and reclaim it - you'll be glad you did
My bead space is a catastrophe, it spanned from our den into the spare room & now the kitchen table
I've seen it before! Craft supplies ooze like oil into everywhere!
thanks for the infor
You're welcome!
mine is out of control 😭😭😭🙈🙈🙈
Welcome to the crafter's party! You can get it back together, just know it's going to take awhile and some concerted effort to do it. But it'll worth it!!
What about yarn organization
I like to use stackable recycle crates with front facing lids, so the yarn stays dust free and can be categorized in whatever way you like. Here's an example or two:
www.wayfair.com/storage-organization/pdp/iris-usa-inc-deep-plastic-box-iri2221.html
or
www.amazon.com/WTM-CBCL-24-Stackable-Hinged-24-Quart/dp/B009L9PELG/ref=asc_df_B009L9PELG/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167148561991&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1326880441311842687&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9027645&hvtargid=pla-309633186212&psc=1
Also, you can use drop-front boxes in the same way:

You are great
How many cats have you got? I have 4 by now. I love them..A big kiss
4 total now, although Mr. Butch died a few weeks after the video was recorded. He was 23 years old and he was finally done. That's why I wanted him in the video.
