That’s probably cause this one was, just like colors ultimate, made by some random company, like why didnt they get christian whitehead who not only made the sonic mobile remasters, but also worked on MANIA, like why didnt let him cook and make the best mobile port? Just why….

Don't blame it all on Netflix. Sega has a terrible track record of porting Sonic games. They've rarely ever had a good port. Both Netflix and Sega suck

The port is fine. I hit constant 60fps. Only issue is that it's not wide screen. Other than that, it's the standard version of mania.

The problem isn't SEGA, it's the fact that it's a NETFLIX game. I'm not sure the port's been handled by Christian Whitehead as was the case with Sonic 1/2 & Sonic CD, either.

I honestly find the mobile version useless. Especially since I have the Switch version. Kinda makes it rather pointless for me
*I* can't afford a Switch though. A lot of other people can't as well. Let alone the game. Especially with how overpriced most Switch games of are these days.
EDIT: Well, at least where I live, for example. 50 R$ to 200 R$ for Mania plus 2000 R$ for the Switch before that.
Not to mention the other way to play sonic mania on mobile so basically the Netflix way is pointless

A regular Switch is 300$ compared to PS5 or Xbox which are both 500$.

Hell there's a homebrew port to the Wii, a console that was underpowered back when it came out in 2006, that runs perfectly outside of the special stages (which only lag because its using software rendering and not taking advantage of hardware acceleration)

Legal issues, but there's a port of an unofficial Sonic 3 & Knuckles remaster titled Sonic 3: Angel Island Revisited, or Sonic 3 A.I.R. for short.

It never got further than that because SEGA didn't greenlight it, probably thanks to the Micheal Jackson tracks.
Also the proof-of-concept video was released in 2014, three years after the Sonic CD remake was released.

They already tried that with Dream Team and look how that turned out.
Not everyone can use or pay for Netflix.
Not to mention that Netflix keeps raising the prices of its services, but that's a whole different topic on its own.

Not including tax.) for an inferior, unoptimized, scummy port! Mania should not be having FPS drops on modern-day devices. My old crappy potato PC can run Mania at a consistent 60 FPS, so what gives?
Typical SEGA, they hate making money via quality. They could've easily just ported Mania on the Google Play Store without the Netflix thing for like 6-10 dollars or something using the same framework as the mobile ports of 1, 2, and CD, but that would make too much sense, so they decided to fuck up another port because that seems to be the one thing they're consistent at.

Once again, the fans did a better job than sega. The decomp is _miles_ better than the official version, and isn’t locked to a subscription service. Not to mention, the decomp version can even run mods! I’m just sad cause this is definitely gonna injure Sonic Mania’s reputation as a near perfect Sonic game.

Oh yeah. I completely forgot about Sonic Mania getting a mobile port. I’m gonna be honest, as well made and polished of a game Mania is, I… haven’t played it since the Plus update released a few years back. I guess I never really had much of an incentive to go back and play it after initially beating the game.
Regardless, it’s a shame to see the mobile port of this game is poorly implemented and optimized for iOS and Android devices.
Especially considering the game was literally built on the same engine that was used for the mobile versions of the other classic games. A mobile version should have been an easy win. Instead, we get a sub-par port that requires a subscription to play. The gaming industry keeps finding new ways to take what should be an exciting announcement and make it depressing.
Not to mention that there are also some audio issues at times that I experienced for some reason.
I kinda like the port, sadly though Netflix is the one who ported it and not Sonic Team. Also, no mod support :(

Man I played sonic mania on my old pixel 3a on a SWITCH EMULATOR that hit a locked 60 fps. If a native port isnt as optimized as an emulator that's just dumb

Yes, mania wasn't originally a mobile game, but they ported it to mobile meaning the code is running on native hardware, not through a translation layer like emulators are. Sonic 1, 2, and CD aren't mobile games either, and they play perfectly fine if we go by your logic

@@DanialDEcool If you have the source code, you can recompile it for any platform you care to. Easier said than done, but an optimized native port is possible. Heck, there's already a decompilation project online where you can get the source code and build it yourself, and besides the 3D sections, there's even a fullspeed build for a mf Wii!
it was so weird to me when I just randomly found out that mania was on mobile devices. I was so confused but decided to just try it out to see what it's like. It for some reason doesn't scale properly on my phone despite the fact that my phone is modern. I'm on a Samsung Note 20, so I do not see why it even has that issue.

It’s because they’re complaining about weaker devices. This game isn’t even supposed to be used on a phone. Origins literally had the same issue. Most of his points is “they did it before” when they had to rebuild the game. They weren’t gonna rebuild sonic mania for mobile once again. The original 2013 versions also failed on perfect inputs.
They really think that they’re gonna force netflix to rebuild a game. What a world.

There's an unofficial mobile port of it based on the RSDK5 decompilation that was released ages ago, and it's almost perfect.

I’m gonna be honest this just seems like sonic fans yelling at the sky as usual. It’s a fine way to play mania, especially for people who conveniently have a Netflix account who don’t want to pay for the game by itself.

Listen, I just finished playing the main mode on there. Even though there are many issues (Sound Effects, Some Lag, Weird Hub) it’s still a good version for people that don’t have NS, PS or XBOX. Still the weakest version of the game, but would still try it if my Switch Broke. But I want to say one last thing, I honestly think that Netflix is behind most of the port, so Don’t Blame Sonic Team. I Still have Hope that the Generations Reboot will be Good, but definitely don’t want something like this. Good Vid tho!😊

If I had a nickel for every time Sega decided to put weird pixel filtering on a classic sonic port, id have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?
Technically like 5 times if you count every game in origins individually
you could just set the filter to sharp though
for the weird pixel filter, that disappears if you set the filter in the video config from none to sharp (on my phone it worked atleast).

Yeah, it can run an optimised version. this is just a touch support port. It does nothing on top. that’s why audio and gameplay can lag.

Ive been playing the game and the audio seems to be really choppy ( idk if thats the right word ).
Recently tried it out and it seems to be using a d-pad now and runs pretty well at least from what I’ve played. Now obviously it’s probably better to just play on pc or console but do you think it could be a good port to mobile now if it wasn’t Netflix locked?

Theres a little button on the side of your iphone that turns sound (i think its called the ringer?) on and off, thats probably why it doesnt have sound at all, i have a iphone and after clicking that button all the sound comes back

The game doesn't even start on my phone. And I got my phone in 2022. I can't imagine a compatibility issue with such a recent one. It's not that big of a deal. I can still play the game on PC and a Steam Deck when I get around to getting one of those. But it's still disappointing. Sega keeps astounding me with their level of stupidity.

I remember I tried to run early releases but even my S20 wouldn't display anything but a black screen.
As it is now, the official released for Mania is messed up on phones unless you really use Netflix a lot and you have a gamepad.
For some reason, I don't even have touch controls when playing mania plus. It's already turned on in settings but it won't work in game
It’s because that’s all they did. They simply added those controls. they didn’t do any bugs tests on them.
This game absolutely SLUGS on mobile! For some reason, for me it ran at a constant 15-20fps!
The only exception being when I touched the screen itself instead of the touch controls, at which point the game snaps back at 60fps!
It means your phone is either old or not comparable. I hit constant 60fps.

One of the main issues I’m having the game on iOS for my iPhone 15 Pro Max is sound. It pops in and out during gameplay… it’s annoying as hell. Netflix has to fix this!!!
they can’t. the reason the other games don’t have audio issues is because they recreate the sounds mimicking the genesis sound chip. Netflix has just taken the console sounds and ported it over. The console sounds are meant to sound fine on monitors, but phones have bad speakers
@@DanialDEcool well, Sonic Mania doesn’t mimic the Sega Genesis. And only remixes the original soundtrack using modern music programs. And current smartphones have pretty good speakers. As it’s not a speaker issue but a coding one. Other games, movies, and music sound incredible from the phone otherwise. The game wasn’t ported correctly on smartphones.
Fools they forgot that Nintendo and their big brain thinking have already made a handheld/home console that has been out for years now and already has a better and more optimized version of a game that has been out since 2017 💀

your audio chip or processor is outdated. it is not made for those older components. it’s just a touch port.
I played it a bunch up to stardust speedway on a long car ride today. I honestly saw little problems and found it easy to control despite being on mobile.

Games like Grand Summoners, Dragon Ball Legends, Raid: Shadow Legends, Solo Leveling: Arise (coming soon), One Punch Man World, etc... There are lots of good mobile games out there.
@@thedarknessinthelight9824 Even as a diehard Dragonball fan since 1999 I wouldn't even consider installing Legends, it looks like a mobile crap game like all the others and has probably gacha and pay and wait nagging elements like all the others. I would rather play even DBGT Final Bout on PS1 or Legacy of Goku 1 or something. I don't know a single mobile game that is good. Maybe emulators. But that's always better with a controller. Gaming is always better on anything other than a phone, even though you can connect a controller.

I find it hilarious that the Android version has such performance issues when the Switch version doesn't, even though the Switch is kind of an Android tablet reworked into a handheld.

You know how in Flying Battery Zone there’s 4 monitors right next to each other that you can only access by hitting two switches in different areas? Well I got to that part and one was missing and the other was broken, I hadn’t opened the secret
I think the issue is that mania usually loads more chunks and is much faster than the remastered 2013 games as it’s for newer consoles and monitors which are wider and stronger. A Phone however cannot do the same. which leads it to load things that don’t work because you went way too fast in an area where it would have loaded.
For me whenever i die during that spider boss fight the game crashes and i have to start the entire flying battery zone all over again.
I wrote a comment about having deja vu because I remember hearing about this Netflix version last year and it having issues. Then it got to the part about it launching last year in certain regions. Now it all makes sense. It's a shame they didn't address these problems during that year.

that’s a storage issue. not a Netflix issue. your save file can be corrupted with any instsnce

Look guys, lets take a win when we can get one. As someone who doesnt have Sonic Mania and has a Netflix Subscription, I take this as a win, my only issue with the port is just the controls *and thats it.* I didnt even have any problems with glitches or anything. Its still the same old Sonic Mania with bad controls, i'd take these controls over Sonic R's controls any day.
Not to mention the audio. Lots of choppy music in addition to sfx being reduced. Some sfx just don't play consistently either, collecting large amounts of blue spheres in the ufo sections doesn't work right, and the same goes with rings. It's like they limited how many sounds can be played

I honestly thought the mobile port was fine, but I was playing on iOS so maybe that makes a difference? (I had some issues with the sound, tho)

Actually it says it’s incompatible on devices with Android 14 and on devices below Android 8 (which is normal as the application package was set to not work with devices below 8) but 14 works fine if you get the game outside the play store, so they messed up the play store page.
Not true. My Phone is Android 14 and it runs flawlessly. That being said it's seems people's experience with the game on Mobile devices varies wildly.

The device compatibility is actually weird with Netflix in general. I've run across a few smartphones and tablets where Netflix isn't on Google Play Store. And yet, installing Netflix via APK is completely fine. So i really dont know what's up with that.
Honestly I felt that the controls for playing through zones weren't that bad and I kinda like the vibe that the menu gives (though I agree that it should be touched up), but it was horrible for the bonus stages. The special stages were also really difficult with these controls too, but it is a mobile game so understandably it would be a bit difficult to work with, I'm hoping that I can try this with one of those bluetooth controllers that hold your phone while you play to see if that gives me a better experience since it seems that this was made with the intent of using one.

The mobile versions of the game also have touch sticks they don’t have d pads? My main problem for all the classic games on mobile is that they don’t have the 3 button layout which means no triple spin dash.
When I heard that Sonic Mania was getting a mobile port, I was super happy. But when I found out that I needed a Netflix account to ACTUALLY PLAY IT, I was immediately turned off. Like bro I don't have my own Netflix account ffs.
Luckily I still have my PS4 copy so I'll just stick with that
I got sonic 2 to run on a 12 year old phone running Android 4, and it didn't struggle a bit, it's embarrassing how badly Sega messed up this port considering the amount of slowdown it has.

What’s even odder is their GTA definitive edition ports are actually decent. They got the vibe of the originals
I played the mobile decomp port and it worked nicely, smooth 60fps except for special stage, which fair, but the netflix version crashes on the sega jingle for me

I tried to download it on the Google play store but it won't let me because it is not compatible with my phone (dispite it being a newer model android phone). At least I got the PS4 and Switch version.

Even on iOS it’s still really unoptimized. I have the iPhone 14 Pro, and yet I still have audio issues and performance issues. I don’t even have that old of a device for it to be doing that

1:53 I have a budget phone from 2020 it was android and it runs great however if it says incompatible simply do these steps go into device settings then about phone then software info then click bild number about 5 times in a row you have now enabled dev mode then go back to settings menu click on dev settings then click on disable app store compatibility ratings if this doesn't work there is another way so just reply to this comment

You also can't use cheat codes, so kids who can't get everything they want unless they get good, which could be the reason alot of kids quit

My parents cancelled their Netflix subscription back in 2017 when the underpayment of POC actors came to light. Having a black parent we haven't gotten it since then due to that. So seeing a game I love be locked behind not only a paywall, not only a MONTHLY paywall, but a Netflix paywall is so confusing and genuinely heartbreaking
I don't like how the jump button and the thumb stick look in the Netflix version of this game.
