Why??? It's Google's FMD network that is at fault here not the hardware of the one point. I bought two of these. Currently useless here in the UK and it's all down to FMD
I might be late but there is a thing called pebblebee, check it out, a rechargeable tag. I suppose Google made it or at least they worked together to make it.
Within a couple of days, I left my wallet in my wife's car and searched for it. Couldn't find it. She physically went to look while at work and found it. I got the notification once she was in her office. After a bike ride, left the wallet in the bike bag in the garage and thought I'd try it to see if it could find it. Said it was nearby but wouldn't ring. Tried several times to ring all 3 in the house and only 1 actually rang. Very disappointed!
Google destroyed the launch of the FMD Network. 1. Announce the service 2. Wait for the competitor to comply 3. Delay the launch 4. Launch it half baked (no UWB) 5. Staged SW rollout, no HW 6. HW delivered, but SW still rolling out 7. Crowd sourced service, but no crowd available Now you know how to NOT launch a service. It's super annoying, my mom has it, but I don't. For weeks now.
You left out "Make the default setting require multiple Android phones be near devices before they'll report the position." Honestly with that being the default, this network is never going to work.
I have the Chipolo ones. I live in the UK, the rollout isn't really here yet. They're a little underwhelming but they have helped me find misplaced keys and wallet in my flat which is helpful
Google made 1 MASSIVE mistake by not have the default setting set to High Traffic Are, without it especially here In the UK where most of use live in less traffic areas so would take longer than it should to get a find update. Also the settings is NOT showing up in the find my device app on the pixel 8 Pro without purchasing a tag. It's as if Google did not have 1 full year to get this working
You're definitely doing something wrong. And you can't have the default be the most privacy "breaching" one. Makes no sense from privacy perspective not everyone wants that feature and all they need to do is change the settings. I have the settings without purchasing any trackers.
@@sirgreen2792neither Apple's nor Samsung's trackers have a high traffic area setting. It's unnecessary since everything is anonymized anyway. They can make that an option but it shouldn't be default!
Left my bag (with the Chipolo) in my friend's car. With three people in the car with Android phones (one even had a Pixel 8), I thought I would be able to find it. But it never showed up on the app, even after putting it in lost mode for half an hour. I'm sure it will get better over time, but it definitely shook my confidence in being able to find my stuff if it was actually lost or stolen.
I have no confidence in it finding a device for me unless someone I share the stupid tracker with stumbles upon it. I marked multiple tags as lost in areas where I know a ton of Android phones would be and hours later not one was marked found, until surprise I walk up to it and even then I had to be right on top of it. It's a damn joke.

Slight correction, you can not locate air tags with an android device. Going to iCloud in the browser will let you locate your iOS devices, but air tags are not shown.

Pretty stupid to recommend to Android users that they buy an Air Tag. These are a nightmare to setup and manage if you don't own iOS devices. Even if you have macOS, this only gives you live tracking, but no setup option. Comparing these Android trackers to Air Tags is kind of pointless. Most of us don't have the freedom to choose one over the other - it's a purchase that's dictated by our choice of mobile operating system / ecosystem.

Nonsense. I live in a small town in the US. I know at least a dozen people who use Android, who bought an old iPhone or iPad just for the airtags, including myself. I've tried using Samsung and Tile before and while they might be fine for finding your keys in the house, both were hopelessly and utterly useless at complex-route tracking covering long distances.

And you even need to find an apple device to set it up.
Unfortunately there's (at the moment) no location history. Also Apple doesn't offer this functionality. When using the Galaxy SmartTags, you get a location history for 7 days.
Yes I agree the Samsung history fuction is very useful if item was lost or stolen hours before you can see where it has been (I am surprised the anti tag people haven't picked up on this useful fuction)

Can be fault with Samsung as well since their network is exclusive to them, but it works for them since they are the biggest and popular Android OEM. They are closer to Apple Airtags in terms of coverage actually.
Yeah, these BT or non-UWB equipped trackers have very limited real world usability for me and I won't be picking any up till these companies but preferably I'm waiting on Google to make a first party set of trackers that use UWB just like Samsung and Apple's trackers do, otherwise these are DOA for me.

Rechargeable, don't expect them to work any better then chipolo when finding them If you have a Samsung phone get the smarttag 2 has (never +) or smarttag 1 if you don't need precise finding (or using a non plus or on ultra phone, as samsung limits UWB to + and ultra phones) If you have a iPhone only use airtags as apple doesn't allow imprecise finding when close buy, the tag must support UWB witch only airtag has Use genuine Panasonic cr2032 battery's (I find others or cheap ones don't last long)
I am going to give an update for my use of them. last July I went Malaysia via Taiwan. My tracker in Taiwan said my luggage was still in Los Angeles 20 hours later and it did not show up till i picked it up at the KL airport in Malaysia. last month I went to Tokyo via Taiwan. and this time my tracker showed up at Taiwan when i landed. and it worked fine when I went to Tokyo then flew to Seoul, Korean and back to Osaka, Japan. so i will have to say its improved by about 75 percent. from my last trip
Get Samsung SmartTag 2 I'm so frustrated that reviewers just don't talk about SmartTags they are the only proper and reliable AirTag alternative that also has UWB. Why would an Android user get an airtag do you even listen to what you're saying?

I used a chipolo and my second android phone has still refused to enable the find my network yet (Google tags should be compreable to samsung 1 or 2 tags smarttag+have horrible battery life and last less then 3+5 months and randomly reboot playing the battery inserted sound, funny enough it looks like on the smarttag 2 they copy and pasted the same code the smarttag+ uses and has the same crashing issue as mine sometimes plays the battery inserted sound) on s21 I had to try adding it each day on the 3rd day it got to the agreement part and let me add and find my network was enabled I actually wish I had gone the Pebblebee as it uses rechargeable battery's (non of that was stated in this video) Pebblebee I believe is Samsung, Google and apple or Pebblebee app compatible (can only have 1 active at a time, but you can still use the app to update the tag regardless of what network it's using) Only use airtag if your using a iPhone the 3rd party tags can't be located imprecise or precisely as apple doesn't allow Bluetooth signal level finding like Samsung and Google does (samsung power meter is significantly better as it does go up and down) if you have a s Plus or ultra model you can use UWB for smarttag 2 devices to use AR finding (tells you the direction it is with camera overlay)
The tags are good. The network and the app needs a lot more improvement. I just got the notification 3 days ago about find my device being activated on my phone. In a few months, at least the network will be robust
The Samsung SmartTag is great. It works great. The app it that uses it. It's called SmartThings. You have like a 7 day history of where that the tag has been, but you must be using a Samsung phone only Samsung phones will see the tag / Activate the tag. I have 4 of the Samsung tags and have never had a problem with sing the location almost immediately. But in theory, the google find my device network With one of the tags that's designed for the network currently, there's only two should be the way to go, as There are many more Android phones than there are Samsung phones because Samsung phones are Android phones, so the network would be bigger. Using the Google find my device compared to just using a Samsung tracker. But I still say samsung trackers work great. I have hopes that these new tags will work good too? Probably in a few months will no more.

I bought a pack of four (the normal ones, not the ones who support FMD) and I'm also very disappointed. The battery drains very quickly and the times I had to find my stuff it only worked about 50% auf the time.
Very disappointed - I thought this was going to be able to use other peoples phones to update location. It just doesn't work that way. I get the impression that google has tied itself up in knots with opt in stuff such that this does't really work at all.
Do you guys forget that Samsung exists? It's always Pixel and iPhones, Samsung has their SmartTags which are in some cases better than AirTags. Google is extremely slow at adopting a lot of necessary features and Samsung always steps up to have their own implementation in OneUI before Google
This is a review of the Google network And the tags that work on that network?. Agree, Samsung smart tags work great, but they only work with Samsung phones. So if you don't have a Samsung phone, you can't use those tags, this is A. Review of tags that anybody with an Android phone can use and in theory have a bigger network than the Samsung. But only time will tell.

would be cool if the CARD Point had a wireless charging coil in it so that after the ~2 years you can top it up again.
I believe with today's available technology, you'd have to charge it like every week, which is not ideal for this type of product

There's no activation or monthly payment. It's using the Android Find My Device network which is free on all android phones

Smarttags only work with Samsung afaik. There are other phones than Samsung, he said if you need it quick you should get an airtag.

Samsung is a gatekeeper just like Apple. Would recommend you look at alternative Android devices. There's so many options to choose from

Why recommending air tag in the place and why compare this to it, this is Android and most Android users have Samsungs the find my device for Galaxies are far superior (for now before they join Google), the tags are more powerful has more features and UWB and surprisingly it works better than Apple, I don't understand why you guys don't mention that here or even on your Podcasts, seriously recommending Air Tags for Android users on an Android channel is ridiculous when you have Samsung doing something really good
I bought a pack of four (the normal ones, not the ones who support FMD) and I'm also very disappointed. The battery drains very quickly and the times I had to find my stuff it only worked about 50% auf the time.
Buying an £800 so I can have a Apple tag makes no economic sense. I may as well just lose my stuff and replace it

That's Chipolo in general, Got a free orbitkey one a few years ago, even had it replaced, half the time it can't find my keys in my house
Very disappointed - I thought this was going to be able to use other peoples phones to update location. It just doesn't work that way.
I get the impression that google has tied itself up in knots with opt in stuff such that this does't really work at all.

I literally use a Pixel 8 Pro, but use the Apple Watch for fitness tracking because the Fitbit app on Pixel Watch isn't as accurate.
Do you guys forget that Samsung exists? It's always Pixel and iPhones, Samsung has their SmartTags which are in some cases better than AirTags. Google is extremely slow at adopting a lot of necessary features and Samsung always steps up to have their own implementation in OneUI before Google
This is a review of the Google network And the tags that work on that network?. Agree, Samsung smart tags work great, but they only work with Samsung phones. So if you don't have a Samsung phone, you can't use those tags, this is A. Review of tags that anybody with an Android phone can use and in theory have a bigger network than the Samsung. But only time will tell.
@mrj.juneau I understand that but in the review he mentions "Get an AirTag" for the time being, well how are Android users gonna use AirTag? So that's why I'm baffled he'd mention AirTag before Samsung's SmartTags as majority of Android phones are Samsung

You should listen to their podcast lol it's way worse, they're ignoring everything Samsung did with their network and their tags and keep recommending Apple, they don't even mention any of the features that the smart tag has, like seriously recommending Apple to Android users while ignoring Samsung the biggest Android maker is ridiculous
The Samsung Smart Tag network is great. It's Smart Things app is rubbish.
