I am over the moon about this! I have tried so many watches but nothing beats the simplicity and usability of the Original Pebble. My original screen died and I moved on to Pebble Time which I will be folliowing your guide to get up and running. Excited, thanks for the matched enthusiasm!
I couldn't be more excited about a gadget. Honestly, the void left by Pebble in my heart is enormous; no other smartwatch comes even close to that 1-week battery life + always on screen that you can see under bright sunlight
@@shamwow9889yeah but Garmin watches UI sucks compared to the Pebble UI. Not even close. I've had the Instinct, Fenix 3x, Fenix 5, and Fenix 6. I sold them all and went back to my Pebble Time Steel. The only thing Garmin does better is fitness tracking and battery life, but the Pebble has 1 week battery life so that's good too. If you need a fitness tracker with GPS and a blood oxygen sensor for some reason, then a Pebble is not for you.
I've tried all of these, they have some of the things Pebble has, but always fall short, I think the Garmin maybe the best of those but still didn't have the support of the previous community. They all seem more like a gadget that you got and it kind of stayed that way, not a ton of customization or apps/watch faces. Not to mention the Pebble UI nailed usability. The calendar, step counter, sleep tracker, heart monitor, and button navigation are fricken perfect
I still use the Pebble watch, I had a brief 6 month gap between when the Pebble app was more of a command line thing and Rebble work seemed to stall. Now that there is a future I pulled them out again and they are better than I remember and I had high expectations. Extremely fast UI, always on screen, amazing battery life, and a much better watch face. Please make the Pebble Time 2! I did the Kickstarter and I really really wanted that watch, I think it was peak Pebble. I'd settle for the Pebble 2, but please make the rubber buttons out of silicone, the old ones died after a while creating holes for water to get in and sometimes the buttons fell off all together.
I miss the Pebble so much!!! It was great: no superficial functionalities and notifications, nice display, great OS and interface, the calendar timeline was amazing. Please, come back!!
Still rocking the pebble 2 hr and pebble time. The pebble 2 gives around 3 days of battery and the pebble time is around 4 days. With rebble os it's still functional. Although some of the features are missing. can't wait to see a modern version of pebble with new pebble os 🎉
I am very excited to see this come back. After my pebble round stopped working, I picked up a Pebble Steel. That stopped working sadly after a while as well. I looked around for an alternative and never found something as good as them. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next!
Still have my pebble time till this day. It’s bloody 10 years and it’s still working! I got amazefit bip somewhere in between, software was not polished but the battery was a bit stellar. The down side was the watch on,y lived 2 years. On the 3rd year the battery expanded and pop out. Looking forward to the new pebble watches. Definitely will grab one in my Collection.
I still have my OG black colored one, and then the Steel kickstarter edition. The steel is still running thanks to rebble OS. I still love the OS and all the promise it had.
I was a backer of Pebble Time, and it is still my favorite UI for a smartwatch. If it wasn't for good health tracking, I would probably still using it as I never really used my Samsung smartwatches more than a notification display and health/sleep tracker.
I still have the Pebble 2 - on my wrist. More than 10 years already. I am totally excited about this announcement for the revival of the Pebble and will buy one again when it comes out.
01:34 - "featured an always on epaper screen" - to quote iFixit on that: While there is no exact definition for what makes a display technology e-paper, it essentially entails paper-like readability in ambient light and very low power draw. The Pebble makes use of a new Sharp Memory LCD that puts it in the realm of e-ink and e-paper.
Yeah, maybe people confuse this with e-ink but they are completely different tech. The Pebble display is incredibly fluid and smooth, but doesn't require a backlight for normal usage. The super reflective backing makes it super easy to read in most lighting conditions and in the dark you can turn on the backlight. It works better in the sun than when not outside, which is the opposite of most watches.
Long battery life is my smartwatch Holy Grail. Sadly the battery in the OG Amazfit Bip I've had strapped to my wrist since 2018 is now slowly dying (got 30 days per charge!), so after some research I just ordered a Xiaomi Redmi Watch 5 Lite to replace it. This appears to have the best balance of price, features, build quality and battery life in the current crop of smartwatches, we'll see once it arrives! Thanks for the throwback!
@ oh no! I definitely try to baby it. I'm not really afraid of water- my seal still seems to be good. Ive kept the battery in decent shape but shutting it off at night. Which Pebble did you wear?
The Pebble Smartwatch had the distinct pleasure of being the rare Kickstarter that actually delivered on its promises. Especially for a startup. I bought one of the color ones, loved it. Turns out, I want a dumb smart watch. Kind of why I loved the AmazFit Bip with the transflective display. Kind of just need something that tells me time, weather, and health (BP, O2, HR). NOTHING MORE. If it can control music, that would be neat, not necessary.
When pebble was around , I've always wanted one. As I'm from India I couldn't get one. I was a teenager then. Now, I'm almost done with Med school and I'm definitely gonna get a friend to get it for me if they travel from the USA to India. I felt bad when they went out of business. I'm really excited. But we have to see how they would place them as a lot of Amazfit watches and Nothing have similar products. Indian market if flooded with these glorified fitness trackers that deliver notifications and have a battery that lasts one week( from brands like boat, noise ). There's actually a company named Pebble that sells these wearables in India. Pebble was the original one.
This is for this kind of news I'm following this chain. ;) I've had a pebble 2, and I was in love with the little watch, my first foray into smartwatches, until it died a few years back. I've tried other watches, but none compared. I'm on the wait list right now, and you bet I'm getting on board this revival train. I secretly hope they keep the little retro look, I loved my black and neon green watch! :)
I had the original one i loved it, and then also got the round one it was great even with a shorter battery life, but with the lack of good support and the battery stopped charging at some point i got rid of it :/ but i would love a new one, but prefer round shape
This is good news for me. I still have my Pebble Time but it stopped working in Andy's 14 on my S22. I'll have to get it out and see if their new updates got it working again.
i doubt it would stand a chance against the competitors these days, these days you could already get an amoled display, sleep tracking, built-in gps, hearth rate monitoring and Spo2 monitoring, 2 weeks of battery life, and fast charging for 40-50 bucks, some might buy it for the sake of nostalgia but that's it.
I will 100% throw my current smartwatch away for a new Pebble. I continue to be convinced that Pebble was peak smartwatch and patiently await its return.
Pebble is awesome, but the buttons on the Pebble HR keep breaking :( best smartwatch ever, best step, sleep and heart rate tracking but to get the HR you have to put up with the crappy buttons :( can't wait for a modern Pebble with real buttons :)
Ever since the side buttons on my Pebble 2 HR disintegrated and destroyed it, I've been chasing the right smartwatch. First a Samsung Galaxy watch, and more recently a Garmin Instinct 2. Garmin has the battery, but lacks the charm of Pebble. If Pebble were to come back, I'd get one in a heartbeat
I had my eye on pebble watches when they were around, it's great to hear a spiritual successor is coming. I do hope they go with a round face. I don't like square faces on watches.
I was an early bird backer of the OG Pebble and only retired my trusty and beloved Pebble 2 for the Pixel Watch. Eric, I'm still waiting for that Pebble Time 2, just sayin'...
The Pebble was way ahead of its time when it came out but there are a ton of inexpensive smartwatches and smartbands out now that can do a week or more with an always on display. The open-source aspect might be the differentiator here though.
🤔🤔 It's not uncommon for larger companies to purchase smaller companies to kill the competition. Fitbit buying Pebble makes a lot of business sense to remove them from competing in a market Fitbit was trying to dominate.
I am over the moon about this! I have tried so many watches but nothing beats the simplicity and usability of the Original Pebble. My original screen died and I moved on to Pebble Time which I will be folliowing your guide to get up and running. Excited, thanks for the matched enthusiasm!

huawei band
my garmin instinct does this just fine
@@shamwow9889yeah but Garmin watches UI sucks compared to the Pebble UI. Not even close. I've had the Instinct, Fenix 3x, Fenix 5, and Fenix 6. I sold them all and went back to my Pebble Time Steel. I can remember rocking the gen 1 pebble in high school. This was long before smartwatches were mainline. It was a wild flex.
As someone that still to this day has several functional Pebble watches, I'm very excited about this!
I miss the Pebble so much!!! It was great: no superficial functionalities and notifications, nice display, great OS and interface, the calendar timeline was amazing. Please, come back!!
I loved the 2 week battery life
The reason why that it got released as open source is that Eric pulled some strings through friends at Google, at least according to his blog post
Still rocking the pebble 2 hr and pebble time. The pebble 2 gives around 3 days of battery and the pebble time is around 4 days. With rebble os it's still functional. Although some of the features are missing. can't wait to see a modern version of pebble with new pebble os 🎉
Absolutely loved my Pebble Time. The OS was quirky and memorable in a good way. I would take physical controls over a touchscreen any day.
I am very excited to see this come back. After my pebble round stopped working, I picked up a Pebble Steel. That stopped working sadly after a while as well. I looked around for an alternative and never found something as good as them. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next!
Still have mine and it still works! The OG one too! Loved it!

I still have two working time steel watches. If pebble made another one true to the time steel experience i'd buy one in a heartbeat.

So excited about this! Original Kickstarter backer. Good news!
I hope you see my comment. It's 100% your right to make as many sponsored videos as you want. But disabling comments on those videos is disingenuous.
According to you. At the end of the day, you don't pay the bills. They do.
As I said they have every right to have ads. But why disabling comments? Something is effy in the product they promote@@bederhajali
Always great to have things be open-source - hoping it's just a rare Google W lol

I've worn my same PTS for a literal decade, and it still works like new. Definitely my best purchase of all time.
I should mention, I'm also an iOS user, fwiw. Things still *mostly* work properly.
Anything you've done to keep it working good? Me, that's the water that did it in. :(
@ oh no! I definitely try to baby it. I'm not really afraid of water- my seal still seems to be good. Ive kept the battery in decent shape but shutting it off at night.

Christ I can't WAIT to review this 😁
The price hiking killed it, the first few gen where affordable they then chased the higher price tag.
This with whoop like functionality would be next lvl
Hell yeah. I have missed pebble. Welcome back.
FINALLYYYYYY OH HOW MUCH I LOVED THIS BRAND...🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
This is for this kind of news I'm following this chain. ;) I've had a pebble 2, and I was in love with the little watch, my first foray into smartwatches, until it died a few years back. I had the Pebble 2 I absolutely loved that watch
"just something that can at least last for a week, track workouts and sleep, notifications..." - so basically amazfit BIP S
This is sick. I still have the OG watch!!!
I had the original one i loved it, and then also got the round one it was great even with a shorter battery life, but with the lack of good support and the battery stopped charging at some point i got rid of it :/ but i would love a new one, but prefer round shape
So excited by this, my Fitbit C5 is the closest I get to that Pebble experience, that was so good, plus the basic health features.
Loved Pebble! ❤️
Finally...the best smartwatch ever made...
This is good news for me. I still have my Pebble Time but it stopped working in Andy's 14 on my S22. I'll have to get it out and see if their new updates got it working again.
A back to basics pebble smartwatch would be awesome. Miss my pebble, never liked anything else I tried
i doubt it would stand a chance against the competitors these days, these days you could already get an amoled display, sleep tracking, built-in gps, hearth rate monitoring and Spo2 monitoring, 2 weeks of battery life, and fast charging for 40-50 bucks, some might buy it for the sake of nostalgia but that's it.
Am from kenya and It was my 1st smart watch i loved the watch faces
I'm still rocking the Time Steel. I've tried other watches, but there are always some feature compromises and I end up going back to the OG
I like pebble time design much more than pebble 2. But they must make bezel scratchproof.
I will 100% throw my current smartwatch away for a new Pebble. I continue to be convinced that Pebble was peak smartwatch and patiently await its return.
I will drop my pixel watch in a heart beat for a new pebble
It's a nostalgia trip for the pebble owners.. 2012ish
For me, it'll be if HTC comes back.. 2010ish desire hd
Sense UI
Pebble is awesome, but the buttons on the Pebble HR keep breaking :( best smartwatch ever, best step, sleep and heart rate tracking but to get the HR you have to put up with the crappy buttons :( can't wait for a modern Pebble with real buttons :)

I've been wearing apple watch for years now but am stoked to check one of these out and possibly switch
I had my eye on pebble watches when they were around, it's great to hear a spiritual successor is coming. I do hope they go with a round face. I don't like square faces on watches.
No Pebble ever had an eInk display...
I was an early bird backer of the OG Pebble and only retired my trusty and beloved Pebble 2 for the Pixel Watch. Eric, I'm still waiting for that Pebble Time 2, just sayin'...
Pebble is the og smart watch. Thanks Linus!
Would be great if current or new software is backwards compatible to original Pebble...
Loved my pebble watch.
I wish they could make a fitbit with e ink
I'd get a new Peeble watch, it was genial.
No smart watch comes near to pebble in terms of battery life, simplicity, notification reliability and app varity.
The Pebble was way ahead of its time when it came out but there are a ton of inexpensive smartwatches and smartbands out now that can do a week or more with an always on display. The open-source aspect might be the differentiator here though.
to hell with all AMOLEDS i love this :)
Yeah, about why Google released the source code now. According to Eric, it was basically because he asked them to.
what does this mean for pebble with iPhone users?
Motorola's 120 watch last 11 days. Less than $200. But heck yeah, come back Pebble!
is that a good watch? nothing watch is way cheaper than this one too
back when a $100 bill had some value
Take my money!!!!
They were great until the physical buttons stopped working 😢
Anyone remember the digging game, like cookie clicker
I still have mine.
🤔🤔 It's not uncommon for larger companies to purchase smaller companies to kill the competition. Fitbit buying Pebble makes a lot of business sense to remove them from competing in a market Fitbit was trying to dominate.
Clickbait title

I would trade my Apple watch ultra 2 or any Android wear watch for a new Pebble. Give me e paper, buttons and long battery life and im happy.

I'm happy for you bro

Still have my pebble round. Wish iOS would let me download my old files 🥲
