Also there’s the Bentley Guide online that shows original cost, dimensions of the baskets, what collections they are from, etc.

Longaberger Basket will always be collected… there is so many of them to collect. I’ve been collecting since 2002. I have over 550 Baskets, 55 Wrought Iron pieces and about 30 Pottery pieces. I was a consultant in 2013 for about 8 months.
I know some collectors that’s been collecting since early 1990s and they have 1000s of Baskets and 100s of Pottery pieces. (Longaberger started direct party sales in the mid 1980s.)
There’s several of the miniatures (Witch Hat, Ghost, Uncle Sams Hat, Peeps, Candy Corn, etc.) that sell between $200-$600, since they were only offered for about a month for each miniature throughout the years (2007-2016). CC JW Miniature Basket Cabinet (usually goes for $400-$500).
Plus any of the Hostess ONLY Baskets that were the $500-$1000 party totals: Hope Chest B., CC Pitcher B., Filing B. w/ Wrought Iron Cart, Shopping Basket Cart
and the Butcher Block 2 Shelf Table. Just to name a few.

There were about 10 baskets originally. Market, berry, bread, gathering, fruit, apple, corn,, darning ..varying in size and shape. The old catalogs for selling them are so cool to view.

Hi Patrick and Cyndi! I’m sorry I missed the live! I am a Longaberger collector! The first basket I bought was at a party in 1984 and it was a magazine basket. The last new basket I purchased was a lunchbox basket in 2005. I have since purchased a couple baskets at garage sales and antique malls.
Fun fact: Mr. My Blessed Nest used to work at a Longaberger factory that made baskets in Hartville Ohio. He cut the pieces of wood to size for the weavers. It was one of his first jobs. He was able to purchase a special basket each month at half price and purchased a couple for his mom back in the day. . This was a fun deep dive!

I, too, was a Longaberger consultant and enjoyed the product and the company for the time I spent with them. No one can match the quality of the baskets in their heyday. The linen liners were the finest fabric (Waverly) the plastic protectors were improved upon and became very sturdy. The vitrified pottery, woodcraft and forged iron products were also quality made. I still use mine and pick them up whenever I come across them and the price is right. I have several years worth of the Bentley price guides. Talk about minutiae describing the product. Grab those. The mini JW series baskets are exquisite and I have the first four. Sorry I didn't collect the whole set of 12. I am downsizing so I really shouldn't even go there. Still a huge fan and always will be. Saw Rachel Longaberger on QVC trying to sell the "new" very sparsely designed basket. A friend ordered one and promptly returned it. I checked it out and wanted to cry. Loved the Glory Days of Longaberger.

I had many in home parties, and took a tour thru the factory and the small town of Dresden. Very interesting family business, sad it ended.

I hadn’t realized it lasted as long or started as early as they did. It’s great they could do it all as a family run business. Even as it got so large. Thanks for watching

@TrustyHucksterMercantile - they are back in business as of end of 2019 after they went bankrupt in 2018. And there’s also some of the Longaberger weavers that started Dresden & Co. At one time (2010) Longaberger had over 86,000 weavers. They were hand making over 1,000,000 Baskets a year- several different styles, sizes, shapes and stain colors. That’s part of the reason why their value for those baskets are not high… however having the monthly speciality Baskets have paid off. Most of those command up to 200% of what they cost originally.

Historically baskets were used on a daily basis instead of bags and in the pottery factories to carry the heavy pieces after firing.

Again a really interesting chat on a topic I knew nothing about. These Deep Dive videos are a fantastic source for learning new things I hadn’t even thought of before. Thank you Patrick and Cyndi.

glad you are enjoying them. We didn't get into to too much detail on exporting them. I guess the consultants were US and Canada. Nate said they didn't exist in New Zealand either. They are well made, but I would think your locally made artisan baskets are far superior, so maybe there was no market for them overseas. Thanks for watching!

I didn't get to watch live...I'm just watching a few days later. Cyndi is a treasure to listen to. She has so much to say, there is just not enough time! You always seem to find the people that has a passion for their collection for your deep dives! BTW, I can't wait to see your 4 way sale this week! Thanks for all you do for your community! I also watched you and Cyndi on the recuse squad....excellent conversation! Thanks again!

thank you for your kind words. Not every deep dive is of interest to every viewer, so it can be hard to pick and choose what to cover - but I always want to find someone who loves their subject - sometimes that's more important than knowing every minute detail of history. Thanks for watching!

I'm a reseller in Maine and Longaberger sells well from my Flea Market Booth. I look for cheap lots on Ebay and Craigslist and snatch them up.. $$$

I guess the key is as you and Cyndi said - finding them at good prices now since they didn't hold their values. But it's good to hear they do still sell. Thanks for watching!
