I cant wait to hear the xpiped set up. I think once that's on you won't go back. It does sound almost like a ls motor with huge cams in it, but with only 4 cylinders if you get what I mean. Also, your welding has come a long way. good job. 1 thing I would suggest, put something to rest your gun arm on. When you free hand like you are doing most people are not stable enough to not rock back and forth or up and down. So if you put a box or at one point I saw you leaning on the vice, just get something there to lean on and you will notice right away your welds will improve and it won't look like you have high and low areas. Keep it up my friend.
I’ll try that! I was using that vice whenever I could to lean on and stabilize my arm 😅 not exactly where I want to be for welding but every time is a huge improvement over the last 🥳 backpurging has already made a HUUUUUGE improvement
HA! i did this same exact thing about a year ago. Planning on building an X pipe or similar crossover to smooth out the dual 3cyl turbo sounds. Cheers!
Well update on my VA WRX. Clutch is broken in, I have over 1300 miles on the new ACT setup now. The car is tuned but we’re not sure on how much it’s making. My tuner recently got a Mainline dyno to replace his Dynojet. We’re experiencing similar issues to what you had, car baselines at 190whp, and on the final tune it made 230whp. Obviously that’s not accurate since the car was previously making 300whp/319wtq. We’re only running 19psi right now, the shop that has his old dyno is going to strap my car down in a few weeks and we’re going to run it on there to see where we’re at.
@@Smeedia I just kept the same mindset as you afterwards and laughed it off, I’ll have one of the fastest cars at 230whp around at least!😂 I’m just happy the cars back to running good and healthy. Trying to keep everything conservative for now to save the bottom end in it, still factory block so that’s my only concern is a spun bearing or bending rod.
It’s funny because I thought the STI would sound more like a Porshe, but you’re right they don’t sound alike at all. Can’t wait for the smedia fleet dyno day!
If it sounds that much different it flows that much different. You could make more power with a tune, but without adjusting the tune you could be running lean and damaging things. At minimum, need to do some datalogging to check before pushing on it. Optimally, have a map for each exhaust.
Not bad, I like it... but it definitely needs something to tighten it up. I'm a big fan of x-pipes myself, I'm assuming that'll make the exhaust note pretty much perfect.
