GENE WATSON TURNED 70 YEARS OLD OCT. 11th 2013. HE DROPPED OUT OF SCHOOL IN THE 9th GRADE, BUT HE IS IN MY OPINION THE BEST COUNTRY SINGER THERE IS TODAY. WHY HE HAS NEVER BEEN INDUCTED INTO THE COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME IS BEYOND ME, THEY JUST DON'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS. AT HIS AGE HE HAS THE BEST VOICE OF ANY SINGER IN COUNTRY MUSIC, WE LOVE YOU GENE, AND KEEP ON SINGING FOR US!

He should be inducted into the Hall of Fame because he can sing country that you will never ever find in today's country music. He is awesome and his voice can make you just listen to his words. I would have like to have seen him in person, just sitting around like these folks just to hear him sing.
Just go to his show he is the v ery best. I seen him 5 times and well again when he is close by.

Gene Watson blows me away whatever he sings. This is one of his finest performances I've seen on here. His Love In The Hot Afternoon I play over and over. While I prefer Marty Robbins version of this particular song, Gene Watson is a phenominal vocalist and seems to be a nice guy as well. I agree with the comments about putting Gene into the Hall of Fame. Why is he not already in there? I'd like to know.

I LOVE GENE ALWAYS.
WONDERFUL. Makes chills run up and down my back. Such 'heart' and a never forgetful voice. He does truly sing. These 'nit wits' of 2019 can NOT sing .... they just are not artists in any manner. GENE, has a unique voice with talent that is soooo identifiable. The 2019 crowd all sound the same and have no 'voice', ... just my opinion.
Gene Watson is one of my favorite singers. Ray Price was the other. I got to see them both at the Lancaster Music Theatre just before Ray passed away. That was the Greatest show. To have two of the Greatest singers in country music in one show was more than any one could ever ask for. AWESOME

Nothing rare about a different musician coming along and doing a better job than the original artist.
For the most part, It basically comes down to a subjective comparison.
For my money, I'll take the Frankie Laine version over all others, and it ain't even close in my mind, yet another subjective analysis.

I saw him twice in the early 80’s and he put on a terrific show each time, even though he was booked in shady clubs. I thought he was better suited for the Optu stage and should have been there.

Gene Watson is the most talented singer in country music and he's still going on with his shows because of all his fans they did'nt want him to quit and he did'nt I was lucky enough to see him just last year but wow! he sounds better in person than on his cd's he is 1 of the most unrecognized country singers today when a man can sing songs like that he should be #1 instead of these young girls singing songs about what boyfriend they have broken up with THIS is pure country I love it.
