  • Today is my 7 Year Anniversary of becoming a quadriplegic and I visited my wrecksite for the first time on my anniversary date! This is the intersection where I had my wreck and an explanation of what happened that day. I have accomplished many things since my accident and am proud of how far I have come! It doesn't feel like it has been 7 years already but I am thankful that I am still alive and for everyone who has helped me get to where I am today! What do you do on your anniversary?

    I was injured July 30th 2010. I just recently drove past the place where I broke my neck swimming. I’ve been past it a few times but that was the first time I’ve driven myself there. I finally got back to driving almost 2 years ago. Glad you’re still here and doing well!

    The level of respect I have for this young man is ENDLESS. This proves such a major point I always try to make to my 16 and 18 year old children when driving out and about. Everyone always thinks you need to be going around 80 to 100mph to ever have a terrible crash like this or to be ejected but that’s not true at all. I’ve seen a guy hit a buck onetime while doing over 70 mph and I’ve never seen a car roll so many times like that in my life I thought “he’s a goner” so I pull over to see how he is and call an ambulance and as I’m looking at the car I see his legs that were hanging out the passenger side window start moving!?…I’m yelling to him stay still don’t move I called an ambulance and the closer I get to his car he suddenly pushes himself up and out of the car?…I couldn’t believe my eyes I said hey man are you ok? He says “yea I’m fine but my car isn’t” I said man I thought you were 1000% dead he ignores me for a minute then looks at me and says my names Rick if you help me get my deer home I’ll split it with you….I look to him and say my names Leo let’s go get him.

    Wow, that was so brave of you. You know, I never ever went back to where I broke my neck and the friend that lived there....was so freaked, he moved. I never heard from him again. I don't have any real memory of that day and to be honest, would only recognize it if I saw it...not sure how to get there or exactly where it was. I'm not even sure of the date (I certainly wouldn't consider it an anniversary though)...but I believe it was February of 1983...the year I'm sure of. I know it wasn't at night because the things told to me...were daylight things.
    Mason, you're giving me a heart attack here...just watch the road 😂. I have a second spinal cord injury...so it can happen...Lord knows I don't want a second one for you. Wow, that road is pretty steep. Maybe after you were ejected, you rolled down hill. So is that why your clothes were all moldy...from laying in the creek? You must have been there for some time if your clothes were as moldy as I think I remember seeing them.
    Do you have an issue turning your neck side to side? I thought that was a higher vertebrate injury...but they say 2 vertebrates up and 2 vertebrates below the injury are negatively affected as well. I originally broke C4...but with the second injury, the 2 lower became affected as well...so now I'm technically a C4 - C6 AND have a really weird reflex now and then with breathing. It's almost like a hiccup...when people are on a vent and need to stop talking while the vent is breathing for them kind of hiccup. It's weird.
    PS...your left eye still is tracking funny and turns in. It can't be just me seeing this. I hope all is ok.

    • @masonx54
      @masonx54  2 роки тому +1

    I expected you would make this video at some point. Every other quad UA-camr I watch has done so. Unless they're new and haven't gotten around to it yet. Kudos and admiration to you for having the strength to do it and handling it like a champ. Because it was difficult for a lot of the other quad UA-camrs. Many of them broke down and cried. That drop off immediately after the intersection is so steep. And with no stop sign, 60mph, offset loose gravel road, it was a recipe for disaster. Gotta wonder if there were other similar accidents at that same intersection prior to yours. I would've sued. I have a few questions. Where was the starting point of this video? And I take it your friend who was with you doesn't remember anything either? And about your friend, you ought to make a video with him in it and have him talk about the impact the accident had on him, even if it's no comparison to you. "Injurversary"....lol. No, he doesn't remember anything either. I don't mention much about my friend who was with me in the wreck because I respect his privacy. However, I would like to do a video with him. What a daunting recollection of the event. I don't remember much from my accident either Mason, just a tiny part when I attempted to sit up on the highway where it occurred. A kind gentleman had come over and helped to protect me from other vehicles on the highway at the time. I was on my motorcycle almost 21 years ago in February of 2001, several months before the 9/11 nightmare in New York city. I was on a Honda CBR 900-RR just taking a leisurely ride after working around the house that day. A driver decided to cross 3 lanes of traffic as I was in the 3rd outside lane. The other 2 lanes to my left were stop and go, but my lane was open and flowing. As they made their way between the 2 stopped lanes they decided to dart across the flowing lane. I happened to be right there when they made their move. I estimate that I hit them at around 45 to 50mph. My front wheel hit the car at the front-right wheel well and my head and helmet shattered the car's rear windshield. I did damage to most of the righthand side of the car. I don't remember the impact or even the events that led up to it, only attempting to sit up afterwards. I had 8 broken ribs, a broken right arm, two jaw breaks, a fractured hip, a shattered T6 vertebrae which is where my Spinal cord was injured, and several other injuries. It's frankly a miracle that I'm still here to tell this story, much like yourself Mason. I believe that I was left because I still had something to do. I first had to understand why I was even here before I could understand what I had left to do. My journey thus far has answered many of those questions and I'm getting more answers each day. I think that we're here to awaken our fellow man to the reality of our Creator and our Spiritual existence. We aren't taught these things in school. I was taught 50 years ago that I evolved from other animals, nothing about creation. Simply examining nature tells the average person that this place was designed by a complex designer. You can't have design without a designer. This place didn't form after a cataclysmic explosion in outer space. Chaos never results in order...
    Anyway Madon I won't get started down that path or I won't stop. It's a subject that's very passionate for me.
    I'm glad you're doing so well now Mason and hope that you're happy and fulfilled in life. I'm looking forward to more of your content on your channel. God bless you brother!!!

      Thanks brother, I know that you mentioned this at least once in previous videos. I was looking for the area on Google maps. God bless!

    Hi Mason, could you tell me what low air pressure bed you are currently using? I'm looking to buy one for my stroke mother. Thank you.

    What programs do you use to edit your videos and create your graphics?

      I use Sony Vegas to edit videos and Gimp (which is free) to create graphics.

      @@masonx54 thanks man I'm thinking about sharing my experience with spinal cord injury as well. So I really appreciate your response. I'm going to try and learn how to use those programs. I've been very hesitant to share my spinal cord injury online but not anymore.

      That's awesome! I think most people don't open up because they don't have confidence in themselves. However, I have noticed that since opening up and being more transparent about my life, it resulted in my confidence increasing.
