It turned out even better than I imagined. Beautiful, classy, the wood with the bronze liners perfectly matched. And the Roadie was the perfect tool. Now it's a true limited edition.
I totally agree with you! It really is one of a kind now.
It all came together and looks great. I love the contrast between the wood, brass and steel.
I love watching the whole process and not a video showing the finished result only!
Glad to hear that because it is lots of work to record and edit. 👍🏻😅
Me too, it's so satisfying to watch through to the end.
That's a great feature set. More of an EDC bag or belt pouch carry but I dig it, you can't beat having 2 blades imo, one for dirty work, one for clean or precision work and you only need to get an infected nail once from tearing off a damaged nail before you start to realise that having scissors and a nail file to hand might be a good idea.
Brass and wood looks great together and you've constructed it beautifully, great snap to all those tools and blades.
And it's perfect that the second blade is serrated for that extra functionality too.
Thanks a bunch! I completely agree with you about the double blades and so on. 👍🏻😎
Very nice! The serrated Vicky blade was an excellent idea...the wood, brass & steel made for a rustic yet beautiful utilitarian knife...as time passes, it will be more beautiful....artistry & technology as always, will make for a wonderful build, my complements...thanks!! I cannot recall if you are a dad yet...if so, a Happy Father's Day! if not, my best wishes to your dad & your better half's dad as well...he must be very proud.....😊
Thanks a ton! Very well said, I agree about the look!
I am not a father myself, but I do appreciate the compliments!
@@FittoSurvive you are most welcome!
A new custom Sak is born.
Really really nice work again here. Thank you sharing
Thanks again! I really do appreciate it, especially coming from you. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Been really stressed about funds lately. I think I’ve balanced again, with some help. In high school a buddy of mine came into a few Swiss Army knives. He sold me one for $4.50. Paid in quarters and I loved it. Yeah it was fake but it did give me a life long love if the Swiss Army knife. I own probably 12 right now. Love what your doing and I am saving for a custom myself
That's really cool. Sounds like you have a collection starting. 👍🏻👍🏻
This is such a beautiful build and the scales really add to the design. Your careful consideration of how the components fit together and interact shows in all of your builds. Thanks for sharing your build process.
Thank you very much! Glad to hear that you appreciated the work that go into my builds.
Yeah I agree, even the deatils like how the Roadie blade will be slightly sprung and still not hit the back of the spring when it closes.
Great work, as always. I've always preferred wood scaling, and the Companion limited edition makes it look so much better!
If it had a sheepsfoot/gardener knife instead of the roadinox, an electrician's blade instead of the serated knife, combi tool instead of the box cutter, pliers instead of scissors, a full length file, phillips screwdriver, tweezers and a Fire ant ferro rod. It'd be the perfect SAK for me
Thanks! I appreciate it. Yeah, that does sound like a great toolset.
That Peening on the Spyderco blade was so satisfying. Great to watch you work mate.
Great option to place the Roadie blade centrally as well. Looks awesome with the brass liners contrasting with the steel tools.
Thank you! That section of the video also looks so much better. While editing the video, I was not pleased with the quality while I was working on my bench.
Gorgeous piece. Love the "making of" vids
Thank you! Glad to hear that you enjoy the build videos, because they are lots of work to make and edit. 😂👍🏻
great job Cody❗️ It turned out really great. Personally, it's too thick for me to gain. But that's a matter of taste. But what is beyond question is how beautifully you put it together. And brass was a good choice. really great.👍
Thanks a bunch! I appreciate it. 4 layers really is reaching the limits of a comfortably pocketable knife.
On a knife with super rare scales like that, I would probably use superglue rather than epoxy first. Because if needed, you can always dunk it in acetone to remove the glue if needed
@@NicksStuff I see what you are talking about. But, I've never been pleased with super glue. The wood absorbs it and it always runs everywhere. 😅
Your videos are great so many more people should see them!!❤❤
Thank you! I appreciate it
Great guide man! And as always, great work. Looks just great!
Thanks a ton! It was great working with your liners. I always get your name confused in the video. 😅
Looks like great parts you create there and allow people the chance to mod and make something unique.
to bad there isn't a Victorinox store. Would be hilarious to watch the look on a Victorinox reps face when you showed them that. Beautiful build!
That would be a fun scenario. 😂👍🏻👍🏻
Great build. Watched it from beginning to end.
You should raffle it of for your subscribers. 😉
Thank you! I am still trying to decide what to do with it. Doing any kind of giveaways on YT is a nightmare and raffles are not allowed. I'd probably have to run it on my IG account.
It was quite exciting watching the transformation BUT that's a funny looking Laser Pointer.! Nevetheless it was worth watching the mods but most of all, knowing what is required to achieve such high end result. A master indeed. Cheers mate from Australia.
LOL The laser pointer project is going to take lots of time. I'll have to source the laser module, figure out how to attach it, find a place for the batteries, and find a way to make replacing the batteries somewhat simple. 😅
Beautiful job like always 👍.
Thank you so much 😊
Perfect tool set. Green Plus Scales. Need to order this one !
Thanks!
What a brilliant skill you have
Thank you!
That turned out great. Thanks for the opportunity to provide input on this project.
Definitely interested in participating on more projects.
Great work as always, but the brass and wood look so good together.
Awesome, thank you! I will definitely be doing more projects like this.
Great job, congratulations
Thank you so much 😀
i am pretty amazed they mass produce these wooden scales to fit the knife without any glue, i wonder how they do it.
these are cool projects dude, love your videos!
I think that too. If I made them I'd be worried they'd pop off. Epoxy would be my option from new!!!
I guess that level of fit and finish, on a mass scale, is why Victorinox is so well respected.
I really expected to see the scales glued on too.
Thanks a bunch!
As you may have noticed in the video, it was actually pretty difficult to remove the wooden scales.
Another stunning mod 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
THANK YOU 🌲
You are welcome!
La necesito ❤❤❤❤❤
😅👍🏻👍🏻
your the master for sure -love your channel and your hard bro keep em coming👍
Thanks for watching!! Glad you enjoyed the effort.
I absolutely love this one!
Thanks! Glad to hear that
So nice!
Thank you! 😊
Is that the only 91mm Victorinox with a nail file? I've been having a couple of ideas for a new custom SAK, and that file has me feeling some kind of way.
There are also small files on 84mm for example the cadet. Or the 85mm wenger models. But the files from wenger are a bit thinner. Wich can be a advantage and disadvantage depending on what you want to do
It is the only 91mm that comes original with the nail file in place of the small blade.
It looks like same file you find on a Cadet? I’ve managed to cut myself with those, better for filing metal than nails!
Maravilloso
Thank you!
Now it's really a limited edition and one of a kind! The brass looks even more awesome with the wooden scales than I imagined.
Do you see any chance to remove wooden scales without ripping the gromet-holes?
I'm trying to route in the slots for the scale-tools and then refit them like they were without glue...
Yes, it is definitely even more unique now.
I didn't see any easy/safe way to remove the scales. Just got to be careful when lifting them.
The plastic scales can be softened in warm/hot water to keep them safe during disassembly. But you can't do that with wood.
Happy Monday Maestro FtS, thank you for another brilliant video showing your skilled craftsmanship. The end result is excellent albeit for my taste the addition of a clip point / modified clip point blade would have been my choice. I don't intend to buy the Companion as I dislike Victorinox's walnut wooden handles, I find them somehow rough & splintery to touch and have read that they absorb sweat & oils and become dirty looking overtime. The few knives I have with wooden handles are the Buck 110 & 112 with Celicram treated Ebony handles. I am hoping that Victorinox will make a Celidor scaled version of the Companion and make it a regular model in its line up & not a one time & expensive model like the Climber Lite. ATB Steve in Tel Aviv.
Hello Steve! Thanks for checking out my video!
Yeah, I really hope that they make a standard issue SAK similar to the Companion with the box opener.
I do not have much experience with the Victorinox walnut scales, but what you said makes sense.
@@FittoSurvive Happy Thursday Maestro 😎👍👌
Great job! Looks very nice 👍
Thanks a lot!
Love it 👍✌️
So cool. I wish I can buy one of your pocket knifes someday.
Thank you! 👍🏻
Have you explored putting Leatherman tools in a SAK? Possibly the T shank or bit driver? Or is it not compatible? Thanks for these videos.
I actually ordered the Leatherman t-shank with the intention of putting it in a SAK, but it looks like it is either incompatible or it will require LOTS of modifications.
Nicely done! Curious why you didn't put the Roadie blade the other way round so it will open up away from the key chain?
Thanks! The springs are not reversible, so I can not swap the Roadie to the opposite side.
Why do you open the corkscrew before pressing the scales down for the glue to dry?
Good question. The corkscrew sits a bit higher than the scales do (this is normal), so when I put the into a vice or clamp I have to open the corkscrew so it doesn't get in the way. 👍🏻👍🏻
very cool mod!
Q1: why didn't you modify the springs for the roadi-blade to make the blade go lower?
Q2: have you ever tried to retrofit the "plus-slots" on the scales for toothpick/tweezer/ruler? (with maybe an extra-slot for the firefly?)
Q3: would it be possible to "mount" the old can-opener on the other side of the roadi-blade if you can install a spacer? (the roadi-layer looks like it has a "hole in the knife" tbh)
Mod-suggestion for that "box cutter": since it's one piece of solid metall at the opening-side: cut a "sharp" opening for firerod-use or cable-dismantler aso (lots o' purposes possible), I seriously think a lot of potential can be implemented into that tool
Thanks!
1. I didn't want the Roadie to have the chance of tapping against the spring. Plus, if the Roadie was much deeper it might be difficult to access it.
2. I have not done much retrofitting for the scale accessories, except for the super simple mod of opening the 3rd slot for the short tweezers like on the XAVT.
3. To place a secondary tool opposite the Roadie, it would have to go under it kind of like the inline philips on the 111mm SAK.
Yeah, you do have a good point. There is plenty of space for some mods on the box opener.
@@FittoSurvive valid points...
Have you ever modified the 65mm SAK Nail Clip 580? I’m wondering if it could be integrated into a 91mm SAK, or if you could build in some of the 91 or 58mm SAK tools into the 65mm format. I’d love to see a SwissChamp with nail clippers integrated. The nail clipper feels like one of the most useful tools in the lineup and I’d love to EDC it without having a second SAK on hand.
I have modified a 65mm Nail Clip before. But, I do not think that I could fit the fingernail clippers into a 91mm SAK.
@@FittoSurvive thanks for the reply!
Awesome knife. Keep up the great work. Your inspiring. I have a question. What spring can i use for the blade layer on a 91mm that doesn’t have a back tool?
Thanks! I have actually never placed the original blade on 91mm without the back tool. I'd guess 2 saw spring with washers next to the blade.
Great vids. Is it possible to put Chicago screw's in a 58mm Vic like the rambler?
Thanks! I have seen some modders use screws for assembling a 58mm SAK. Or, I have also seen some titanium scales from Aliexpress that are threading and come with some torx screws.
Love your work , great building video’s . Which sak had that spring you are modifying always with the spyderco blade’s? Thank you
Thanks a bunch! These springs were from the fish descaler.
@@FittoSurvive would the spring from a saw also work ?
@@michaelserdons1914 It is too thin as one spring and two would be too thick.
Nice bro i thinking about ordering a custom one
Thanks. 👍🏻👍🏻
Where did u get those clamps? They awesome
I found them at a local home improvement store. I don't have a link for them, but here is something similar. amzn.to/3p8bPKd
Awesome mod and great video. I'm curious as to why you left the corkscrew open while epoxy set?
Thank you! Good question. The corkscrew sits a bit higher than the scales do (this is normal), so when I put the into a vice or clamp I have to open the corkscrew so it doesn't get in the way. 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice work. How much is this version with walnut wood [plain, no design] on the 2 sides, with all the configuration the same?
A build like that would cost around $440.
@@FittoSurvive I see. Ok thanks.
Looks great! I’m still on the fence with the box cutter. That Roadie looks small enough to fit in an Evo 85 or 84mm or am I wrong? Did it fit neatly between the two springs or did you need to file it / spring down? Awesome job as always!
Hi, so there is double-thick-short slot at spyderco layer, is there some tool to fit there?
Would using a press to peen the pins work better or do you think the hammer is easier?
I have never tried a press, but I would be afraid of bending the pins.
Are the g10 liners stronger than the stock aluminum liners that come in all Victorinox models?
Yes, the G10 is stronger and more durable than the original aluminum liners.
@@FittoSurvive would it be possible to send you my swisschamp with the micarta scales I have already installed and have you install g10 liners for it? Or would I have to order an entirely custom swisschamp? Hell maybe I'll get an entirely custom knife anyway. I've been eyeing a cybertool for a while.
Can I order this exact knife with British Racing Green scales???? How much???
A build like this with original green scales would cost around $450. And my current waiting list is around 56 weeks.
hello brother, please tell me where you can write a link to me. so that I can order the knife I want. Whatever You did to Me. I'll send you the photo.
Check out my website for information on how to order one. Www.f2scustoms.com
Crazy, stupid idea, laser etching the back of a file, to make a crosscut file?
It is definitely possible. I saw a guy on Instagram recently post a video about that. His handle is custom_laserart
@@FittoSurvive Thanks!
It actually shows a lack of imagination that Victorinox didn't go the extra mile and use brass scales. It looks so much richer and more genuine 👍
They could be doing so much more with the historical design legacy they own.
BUT, it's to your benefit that they don't 👍 LoL
Share the link to Ukrainian guys 🙏
@@PaMuJIbKa Here you go: facebook.com/SakWorldCustom?mibextid=ZbWKwL
that is disgracing Victorinox with the worst customer service and rudest ownership in the knife business with Spyderco. Spyderco make okay knives but ownership are such A-holes that i will never buy their knives again and sold off the ones i had. They could have a rude off contest between Spyderco and Medford and see which one cares the least because their stuff sells regardless of what they do
Interesting. Sounds like you're not a big fan of them. 😅 To each his own. 👍🏻👍🏻
@@FittoSurvive Big fan of Victorinox and they have the best warranty and customer service in knives
@@MrPsiman There lifetime warranty really is good. 👍🏻
I'm thinking the machining and working of the brass hardens it somewhat since its not ferric. To anneal brass you have to heat it up gently and quench it, the opposite of steel
I am not sure about that. But sounds logical.
Have you ever had a "wobble out" or increase in tolerance due to wear between the pins and the areas where you peen brass into modified blade tangs like the Roadie?
I have not had any issues like that. I have been contacted by customers who have been carrying my builds for over a year and they are still pleased with the performance.
