Hi Chris, i just found your channel and found it very informative and interesting. You are an excellent communicator and such a nice lady. Great video! Ciao
Hi Chris !! One of my other question is if I want to buy a house in Italy WHAT KIND OF VISA should I request to the Italian Embassy? because my idea is to retire in Italy.Thank you. Your videos are getting better and better every time. Take care.
Hi Violeta! If you want to retire you have to get an elective residence visa which you get at your home consulate where you are. When you arrive you get your permission to stay visa and you become a resident. There are some passive income requirements so make sure you structure your income to fit in with them. Let me know if you need help.
This is great info! Building on that question & answer- once an Italian Elective Visa is acquired, does your birth country’s citizenship change at all? In other words, do you now have dual citizenship or have you essentially given up birth country citizenship upon acquiring the elective visa? Thank you!! Love the channel 🇮🇹😊
I think a video about businesses needed in your village or ones that would do well and be welcome would be a fantastic video. Also what are things the village natives would like to see from expats going there would be a fantastic video if they will become our family so to speak learning what helps us get past the honeymoon would be awesome
I lived in Bolgheri Tuscany and just outside of Castagneto Carducci for 6 years...there is a deep hook with Italy... I travel back once a year ...(except for 2020)... and I’m aching to get back...enjoy your work and information....all the best
thank you for open this "chanal" to people who want to change life and enjoy the Italian style of "slow life "-after 70 years we deserve it! hope we can get the best help from you in the future after "covid-19" is gone (1st wave) David & Sandra
Hi chris briliant video very helpful. Little question for you, I notist that transfer from lamezia airport to scalea very expensive, what is the chepest way round that ? Thanks and keep posting your very helpful videos 👍🏻
You can drive a van. I have seen the giant Pullman buses coming in and somehow they negotiate the turn in the piazza! It is miraculous! We have lots of parking!
Hi Max, it really depends on the leasing contract. It could be an option. It is something to look into. However, don’t be fooled by these listing agencies that make it look like you’re purchasing when you were actually leasing. It is something to research. Each situation might be different. Let me know how it goes
Hi I just find your cancel they say nothing happens for no reason it is been few months I am looking to how I can get property in Italy as you know to many different law and now I have you with best information thank you
I am loving these videos, in addition to the course. By any chance, do you have a video about buying a property & living there less than 3 months a year (as opposed to becoming a resident)? And how to deal with those considerations? :) You are a great ambassador for Calabria! Thanks for debunking those myths.
Thank you so much Laura! Can you email me your question at info@supersavvytravelers.com? Every situation is different and I have some options you can explore.
Interesting, I have the same question. My goal is to buy something and when I decide to travel, I only being my passport. So that would amount to many short stays, not a long one.
This is very informative. Is it still possible at this point to buy a 2 bed/1ba apartment with views in this area or somewhere in Tropea for a budget of 30k in US dollars that is habitable with just minor repairs?
Hi! There are so many properties available now. Scalea has many apartments in that price range and the hill towns are great places to look for properties. I don't know about Tropea. That is generally a more expensive market.
I don't know if you have done a complete video on this yet, but I would like to know the basic cost of living. Things like electricity, food (not restaurants), heating, internet, any insurance.
Hi! People have been asking me for this so I will do a video on this. When I shop there I don't look at individual prices but the whole shopping cost. I will ask Bonnie to assess these for me! Stay Tuned!
Excellent advice. I currently live in Mascalucia and I’m interested in the new directive that states renovations are reimbursed up to €60,000 by the state. Do you have any advice and/or additional information on this? Thank you in advance.
Hi Darin! I have not researched this as of yet but will start as we are renovating our BNB! I do know DauvO has done a video on this on his channel I will look into this as it is a great question and I need to know it too!
We do have high speed internet access. I have not seen any cell towers but all over Calabria I have never had issues with cell phone coverage unless I was in a train going through a tunnel!
Hi, There is a VAT tax which is from 2-10% depending on the circumstances. Property taxes are based on the value of the house so if you are in a less expensive property market it is not a lot. All of this is in my online course that is coming out in the next couple of days. You can get a mortgage for 50-60% of the home's value.
Hi Benjamin, I apologize, I am just now seeing your question. The answer is not really. You do have to start the residency process in order to stay longer than 90 days if you are not an EU citizen.
Show his all our videos and then bring him over! Once he experiences it he will be all in! Pete told me we were not going to buy but only to look. A few days into the trip we made the offer on our house!
Hi Linda! From what I understand, you have to get hired by an Italian firm or perhaps start you own business. I am not sure but you should contact Nick Metta at Studio Legale Metta and I am sure he can assist you. I think you will have an easier time than someone without that particular skill! Let me know how it goes!
There is a lot you can do yourself but anything structural will need a geometra, architect or engineer to sign off. it is up to them what work you might be able to do yourself beyond that and they vary from place to place.
Hi, maybe you could talk about the yearly house tax and water bills etc. I live in France and am sometimes surprised by the amounts to be paid for these.
HI Stephanie, The yearly costs vary but ours are a little over 1,000 Euros per year plus we pay 120 Euros per year to Ivan who pays our bills. I describe all the yearly fees in my online course which is almost ready to launch!
A couple of questions came to mind. Do you recommended bringing your car from the US or buying one there? Are there particular brands that are easier to get serviced there or others where service might be a problem? I am guessing you might recommend getting a fairly small car given some of the narrow streets I see in some of your videos. Yes? Do you recommed bringing your furniture or buying it there? Are furnished properties available?
Hi! If you are a resident you can purchase cars there and they have all kinds. Most of the rental car agencies are also mechanics and service their cars so Toyotas, Citroens, Minis and the like are all common. And yes a smaller car is a lot easier to get around in. You can find all kinds of furnished places on our area. There is also a furniture place close by that has good and nice furniture. If you have special pieces that are with the price to ship you acme but you can buy everything in Italy.
Hi Chris, i just found your channel and found it very informative and interesting. You are an excellent communicator and such a nice lady. Great video! Ciao

That was really a helpful video! So well delivered.

Hi, thanks for all the valuable information you provided in this video, been thinking of buying one of those fixer uppers in Calabria.
Do it, it's lots of fun and there are some good deals to be had!
Yes when I was in Calabria many years ago visiting family I had an issue and went to the pharmacy and got help
The pharmacies here are a godsend.
Such an informative video Chris. Watching your videos has me considering to look further south than what I originale thought
Wonderful! I love it down here!
Great advice Chris. One day I may do this. Grazie.

Thank you so much for all the great info you provide.
You are so welcome!
Thanks for all the great info. Do you need any paperwork if you're only renovating the inside of the house without changing the exterior?
It really depends on what you are doing. For paint and tile I don't think so but anything more it is my understanding that you do.

Hi Paolo! The train goes right to LemeziaTerme and drops you off in Scalea. That is the best and cheapest way to go. And thank you for watching!
👍🏻briliant 👍🏻THANKS
great and informative content, as usual... :)
Thank you! So happy it helped!
I would like to know if Italy has Naturopathic doctors. Also are there compound pharmacies in Italy? Thank you for your videos. They are delightful.
Hi Linda,
I have no idea really however we have a great osteopath here in Scalea.
What size vehicles are used mostly in Talao? Or other such areas? Are Van's to big? I love driving and traveling.
You can drive a van. I have seen the giant Pullman buses coming in and somehow they negotiate the turn in the piazza! It is miraculous! We have lots of parking!
That was one of the most helpful and concise videos I have ever seen on this subject. Thank you so much!
You are so welcome Jennifer! I am glad you found it helpful!
What’s your opinion on long term leasing instead of buying please?

Yes it may not. Make sure you ask your agent.

Ivan's website seems to be broken or not working properly.
Yes Ivan is reconstructing his site. We just communicated this morning. Email me and I can send you his contact information.
Can you do your own renovation?
I have not heard that you cannot but for structural repairs you will have to work with an engineer.

Yes! You never know!
