This turns out to be an extremely versatile amp! And there are a ton of tone options and effects.
You can go from country to screaming death metal!!
I'd also consider gigging with this amp for small venues!
Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
Keep it Metal,

I currently own a Katana 212 MK2 and played a huge venue for over 7,000 people on a giant stage, all thanks to his LINE OUT output! I use the Katana only as a monitor, everything the Katana can do is impressive! I just ordered my Artist MK2! It arrives in 2 weeks!
Man, that's cool how you used it and for that large of a crowd, which makes sense to run it through the board. I play much smaller shows (mainly solo acoustic gigs at local breweries and wineries) and just use the POD Go through the board. But you've got me thinking about switching over!
Congrats dude
If you live in the USA, zZounds Music delivers in just two days max.🙂
Holy hell I just got that exact guitar and just ordered the same Amp last week. I'm excited for the first time in years
🤘
You’ll love them!! I got one of these, and use it with 11 other guitars! It doesn’t matter what I plug into it, acoustic or electric, this amp keeps me away from my other 3 rigs. Yes, I have 3 rigs. A Marshall, Alesis, rackmount with a small pedal board, an PRs Se mt 15 into a 2x12 with a bigger pedal board. And my old school tried and true Randall half stack, with basically the other two pedal boards combined into one. You will love this amp! You will love the 24-08!!
Excellent demo - I really enjoyed it. I love the simplicity approach - one that Angus Young uses all the time - basic always trumps complex when performing as so many things can go wrong. Set the amp where you want it - and don't touch it for 40 or 50 years - that's all Angus has done so well. Again excellent demo and thank you very much for teaching,
Thank you. I really like that concept of keeping things simple! It's so easy to spend hours tweaking tones but that just takes away from writing and practicing.
I just ordered the Artist MkII ....for a couple hundred more, it is packed with better features than the regular MkII 100. The speaker is the biggest thing. Every comparison between this and the 100, this blows the door off of it. If you bought the speaker alone, it runs $200. It's a no brainer to buy this!
Yeah, it's definitely a good piece of gear to have for pretty much any situation! You could easily bring this thing to a small gig!
Man I got the 100 watt head a few weeks ago and paired it with a 2x12 v30 cab and it kicks ass...best amp I've had in a while really.
Oh dude that’s gotta sound amazing!!
@@jasonstallworth it rippppps
Guy that i jam with runs that same system and it sounds amazing. The technology these days is amazing!
Great video! I just ordered it with the GAFC foot controller and everything. This thing is loaded with options, the patches, the tone studio, everything... and just seems to sound great overall. I've heard people say it sounds "synthetic" somewhere else, but judging by UA-cam videos I think I'd disagree. Apparently the speaker is great too. Can't wait to try it. I'm a zoomer that started guitar with an audio interface and some plugins, so this is technically my first amp! :D thank you for the demo!
Yeah it's a cool little amp with a ton of options!
Thanks Jason,I just purchased the artist, wow! Immediate gratification for sure! I saw a guy import a klone pedal on the 2.0 update. This amp is impressive
There so much happening to learn as you go along. The 50 is great too. My next purchase is the katana airstep.foot controller. One is USB or midi. Thanks Jason. James Ray Las Vegas nv
Yeah dude, these amps have a ton of options!
Thanks my friend, I'm planning on buying this amp soon, you've totally sold me this love the metal 🤘🤘
It's a killer amp! Lotta options!
Thanks for the review. I just picked one up.
They’re cool amps!
For some reason, all I could think about was a icy cold gin and tonic... so I went and got one of those. Then it all made sense. Cool video, cool guitar, a cool dude who plays really well, and about as honest a review as one could possibly do. Thanks!
Sounds like a good match dude!
@@jasonstallworth - I think your guitar made me thirsty for something with a lime. That is a really incredible guitar color. But that was yesterday, sadly sober again this morning. I’m totally flattered by an actual reply from you, a bit starstruck perhaps, so I wish the very best for you and yours! :)
Excellent Demo Jason. Really showed off all the tones and you're a monster player! I'll be buying one of these. Thanks.
Thank you brother 🤘
Hey Jason thanks for the Demo, I actually own that Katana Artist MKii. Love that thing, I usually hook it up my laptop and get some actual tones from AC/DC all the way to Pantera. This thing is just awesome. Now I just need to become a decent guitar player 😂
Thanks for your awesome videos, I grew up down the road from you in Miami.
Dude, you'll definitely get there.
Also, if you haven't jumped into this yet, take a look at my latest metal rhythm course: metalmastermind.com/metal-riff-master/
For live I use the line out jack, but recording sounds even better with the usb audio into the pc - that's stereo. The amp can be expanded with the gafc foot pedal for live playing, and on the head and artist I've also added a midi controller foot pedal. So I've got the gafc to show which fx are on and switch fx in and out, and the FCB1010 midi controller to switch patches, solo boost and pedal fx along with two expression pedals. You could do all this with just the gafc but this setup avoids a tap dance between modes. I think the inclusion of a solo boost was inspired - so useful to be able to set a boost level and just switch it in during solos.
I can also add my old Katana mkI as a stereo slave. I sold a tube amp to get the artist but I don't regret it. This amp sounds awesome !
There is also an acoustic simulator fx which you can set and store from the boss tone studio app, and its pretty good for short bits of 'acoustic' guitar live when your using an electric guitar and don't want to swap guitars. The acoustic setting on the amp is really an eq'd setting to provide a better sound for a real acoustic guitar to be plugged in. This saves having a separate amp for an acoustic guitar.
Yeah dude this thing is loaded with options!! And I like the idea of not needing a separate amp for an acoustic (sometimes I play both at small shows).
At least they finally put the controls where they should have been alla long
🤘
Bought mk2 artist today...outstanding!
I traded in my 50w mk2 ...when I saw the up front controls up front... Sold !
Amen.
Bought the Mk2 50 getting back into playing. After diving into it for 2 days, it was amazing but I quickly wanted more, so I went and got me the Artist MKII and the GA-FC , holy crap...so many options now....so fun..
Love your sound!
Thank you, yeah this amp is a little beast!
@@jasonstallworth ok this is addicting. Since getting back into jamming with "just" a guitar..Ive gotten a bass, guitar, 3 katana amps, mics, pedals all over, DAW, audio interface, I DONT HAVE ENOUGH TIME for my new addiction. Making metal tunes...so fun....
would be interested to see what you could achieve using the tone studio
Yeah I'm curious about that as well!! Especially since you can record direct with it and it has that cabinet emulation built into the output!
Jason could have at least 2 more videos using Tone Studio at least! He is very talented.
Great demo of the artist. I have two Katanas, an Mk1 and an Mk2 both with upgraded speakers, but not the artist. If I end up buying another solid state amp, it would be this amp.
That PRS though!! Man, that's a a beautiful guitar! It sounds great. And that Katana is pretty sweet too! It sounds like it would be quite useful for recording! I have a new Marshall Origin 50 and 2x12 vertical cab being delivered today!
Yeah dude I loved playing that guitar!! And I actually liked playing metal with those lower output pickups. Gives a distinct and unique tone!
I bet you’re excited to get that Marshall today!!!
my uncle just ordered me one of these amps i cant wait to test it out for myself im super stoked!!
I think you'll love it!
Jason I bought this amp. However, it is very heavy! I loved it. After hearing you play I'm second think. They have a new 2.oo update were you can import the klone peddle. You can do that with all there products. I think the best katana is the 50. It's really all you need. But I really loves the global e.q.. with 4 contours .actually 12 if you count red green yellow.what? On the Artidt that is. Plus 3 resonates cabs. Man that artist kills. Thanks Jason
Yeah man, I wish I had more time to play through this amp! I've considered getting one just to have in the studio and maybe even play live with it. There are so many great tones.
Was as looking for something to substitute my Helix for simpler jamming around town and this amp has some great options for a all in one. Thanks for the samples.
Its a cool amp for sure!
As usual awesome playing and a great demo, love this guy 😊
🙏🏻🤘
Awesome im picking up one next week after i get my guitar. Getting a brandon small snow falconc with it. However the acoustic channel doesnt really sound acoustic to me just clean.
Yeah the acoustic channel lacks. I actually use my Line 6 POD Go for acoustic (I play live solo shows around Tampa): ua-cam.com/video/7FIoBfpTS7M/v-deo.html
I have this amp. You can (No Pedals but GA-FC Boss 8 channel switch,) dial in tones that sound exactly like my buddy's '68 Twin Reverb, You can get JCM to Rectifier to Soldano to 5150 tones with high gain. Never seen any distortion pedal that can make your sound THAT BRUTAL. No typical digital dullness in tone. Full round tones. You can emulate a Fender Tweed, make it sound like you're playing a Telecaster, Strat, Les Paul, you can sound like Hendrix or Kerry King or Dime or John Mayer. Incredibly versatile, and very affordable, this can all be done without TONE STUDIO (included for free.) If you use the Tone Studio, you get every Boss effect and range ever made. When you cab out to external cabs (multiple outputs,) it sounds as good as ANY stack I've played, and I'm a big Soldano guy.
Having that 8 channel switch is helpful!
You're the most awesome teacher on the net Shane! I've learned so much from you....
His name is Jason

🙏🤘
You provided the information I needed thank you !!
Awesome to hear that!
Ah, the Boss Kataña. A classic.
😂🤘
Suddenly Spanish 😂😂😂
Great demo. video. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that I can see and hear some "George Lynch" influence in your playing. There is definitely nothing at all wrong with that. I have been playing guitar for 45 years, in bands, and for fun. I won't stop 'til I drop. I just happen to own both the Katana amp and the PRS guitar used in this video, as part of my extensive collection. I can vouch that they are both great pieces of music equipment and worth every penny. Keep on rockin'! 🎸 🎸 🎸
I do like Lynch's style though I never listened to a ton of Dokken, just here and there. Yeah, this amp is cool and you can get a ton of tones from it!
Great demo. I just bought an artist series MK II, but I would like to see more instructions and demo on the GA-FC optional pedal, which I also have. Thank you
It's a cool little amp. I think the pedal was wrapped up and I didn't want to unpackage that
I found if you put the boost at 7ish oclock and max the gain and volume it sounds like a good 80s metal sound also i keep the bass at 8 the mids at 5 and the treble at 6 or 7.
Edit: Crunch channel
🤘
Thank you so much for showing this video. I ended up going to guitar center and trying it out. I bought one , and I am super excited about it! I really like watching your videos and watching you play
Awesome to hear that! Yeah, it's a versatile amp! By the way, Replay Guitar Exchange does online orders with free shipping (that's the store I'm at and there's a link in the description). I like to give them a shoutout for letting me film content there
@@jasonstallworth They seem like a really cool store. It Sucks I can't go in person. I'm already looking at their inventory. I want to get rid of my Ltd arrow 401. Not a fan of the Floyd rose Bridge
Smoking demo brother! I have always loved delay in my solo’s as well@
Well,played!
Thank you, this is a cool little amp!
Got the like right away with “back for more”
Always loved that tune, and that whole era of music!!
god! iam sold! i think 'll get a katana since y fender amp crapped out. that really helped me to decide but i'll go to my music store to test it out! thanks man!

The acoustic channel is for amplifying acoustic guitars. However there IS an acoustic simulator built in that you can access via computer. Might be a way to access it by front panel, but not sure since I just have an old laptop that goes where the Amp goes.
That's good to know about the acoustic channel and simulator.
I've been curious about these as well. I'm using my Helix for "silent practice" and have Synergy gear for plugged in stuff with the Helix controlling all the switching. So instead of plugging everything in and unwinding all the cable - I was thinking about this amp to move air for simple jam times and simple practice. It has a great range of tones and pretty much checks all the boxes. Excellent video! Thanks for sharing dude!
Dude I’ve been wanting to try the Helix!!! I used to have the POD HD500 and have always been impressed with Line 6 tones and effects
@@jasonstallworth The Helix is very nice and sounds killer! Using it to control midi is fantastic! I can set up "Snapshots" that will swap in delay, change the module and channel on my Synergy - all with stepping on one button! No more tap dancing! As killer as the Helix is and sounds, for Metal - you can not beat the Kemper dude!
I'm very much a Marshall man, but this is a damn fine amp. A great value. Solid state technology has come a very long way since the 80s. I liked Randalls a lot but still felt they were missing something. Eventually, in '89, Randall came out with some tube amps, but they were muddy and their RG series was still superior. There was also Crate, and Peavey have made some very good solid-state amps. Also, a now defunct company called Pearce made some very good solid-state amps used by Ronnie Montrose. But the Katana obliterates them all. I tried one at a local shop recently and could not believe the number of awesome tones they got. I would tell players that unless they just HAVE to have a tube amp to consider the Katana Artist. Literally, cutting edge technology. I think Dimbag would have loved this amp.
Yeah dude, there’s nothing quite like a real Marshall! But the Katana can do quite a bit and you can get some solid tones from it. And yeah, Dimebag very well may have liked this amp!
@@jasonstallworth They remind me of what a Randall solid state could be at its best.
I got the artist. This amp really comes to life with the global e.q. there's green, yellow ,and Red EQ. Then underneath each color has 4 contours 1 through 4 toggle swith on board.this is a brilliant feature. It makes your amp into 12 amps. Trust me it's great! As a tube amp dye hard I am.in the katana camp for ever. Give it a shoot!
I agree 100 percent. I even bought the new caytalist and the blackstar TVP. None of the touch the Katana. I love it so much I bought the artist katana. I still want the. 50 katana. I went for the artist. I had the 50 tried the hundred. But the artist has it all and more. I never stop giving cause you can cont. Upgrading it thrugh new software.
Those are rather low output PUP’s, so it was cool to hear that 24-08 in such a broad spectrum of genres. Also liked the straight forward review of both the guitar and amp. Great video as always.
I have played all of the Katanas, and the head and 2x12 are my favorites, but I prefer the Blackstar ID Core 100 over both. If I had to choose a Katana I would take the head because of the internal speaker which sounds pretty good.
Also for what it’s worth, the Katana reacts differently with each guitar. If you take 3-4 different guitars and play them one after the other, the PUP’s will react differently, whereas a lot of the solid states I’ve tried sounds basically the same whether I played a Les Paul, Tele, PRS S2, or something with EMG’s through it (keeping all the amp settings the same throughout). As a tube amp guy, I appreciate that from the Katana line. It’s very dynamic.
So is that a good thing about the katana responding different? Like a tube amp?
@@jorgeguitar2540 yes, if you play different styles of music and have different guitars. For instance, one would not want a hollow body to sound just like a solid body in most cases. In other words, strats, teles, Les Paul’s and hollow bodies should all have a different identity because they were intended to.
The exception is if you only have one guitar and want it to sound like something else. For instance if you had a strat with single coils and wanted to play heavy metal. The Katana is going to let the SC shine whereas another modeling amp may not. The other one may sound like a humbucker because it’s a modeler and doesn’t respond the same as the Katana.
Tone is best understood by just going to a music store and playing around. I would suggest going in and finding a store where you could get 3 different guitars and both a couple solid states and a tube amp all together and play each guitar through each amp, keeping the amp setting the same. Use a Katana for one of the solid states. You’ll quickly hear what I’m talking about. It’s hard to describe tone in words because you hear it and not see it. Know what I mean?
I'm with you on the tube amps...love my EVH 5150 III EL34 head!
But yeah, I chose that guitar with those pickups to see how it would react. I figure if the amp can sound great (or good) with lower output pickups, it's going to sound amazing for metal with higher output ones!
I also like the Blackstar amps! I played through the Club HT40 a month or so ago and that amp sounds great!
@@jasonstallworth I love your EVH EL34 model and once we get our house and out of the apartment, that’s what I want next. That’s awesome you chose that guitar for that reason. It’s disappointing when people see reviews from guys with a guitar loaded with a Dimarzio Super Distortion and can’t figure out why their EC-256 doesn’t sound anywhere near the same, etc.
I’m enjoying the channel more and more. Very pure and authentic as well as informative and diverse. It’s refreshing to find new content on UA-cam these days. I appreciate everything you’re doing.
Oh and yes, the HT series is awesome. If I don’t get the EVH (possible availability issues) I’m either getting the HT, the Series One 50w that they just put out, or maybe the PRS MT-15. I like all for different reasons, but may have to pick one based solely on availability with how things are nowadays.
@@jorgeguitar2540 I don’t know that I’d compare it to a tube amp but it’s definitely pleasant to play through!
great demo!
🙏
I don’t think you’ll be getting rid of your EVH EL34 anytime soon for this amp. But it’s cool to see you try out different gear
You're right about that! I don't see myself ever parting with that amp...but...you never know!!
Thoes EVH amps are great, recorded my last album with it. I have the peavey 6505 mh and love it cranking up thoes 20 watts for the full tone!
Damn you, Jason. You have sold me on this amp, and are going to cost me more money - But, I have to get it!!
Lol...yep, gotta get it!
Excellent review and playing
Thank you! This was a cool guitar to review!
You rock, bro! \m/ I couldn't stop laughing at your faces at the end of your riffs...
I have been playing on the 50W Boss Katana MKII and I usually only need to use the 25W setting with master volume at 4 or so to make my ears bleed! These amps rock!
Keep it metal!
Yeah that 25 watt setting is great and these amps sound pretty awesome!
Great demo on the Boss amp. We're you a big Dokken fan. You have a style similar to George Lynch.
Love some Lynch!
Great tones!
Gotta get a boos katanya for myself now 😂😂

@@jasonstallworth found a huge discount on the artist MK2 at thomann, really worth it at that price, it's almost half the price of the new artist gen 3!!!
Nice demo, thanks!

That clean chorus tone 😎
Yes dude, such a beautiful clean tone!!
Awesome amp and great playing! Wow!
Thank you 🤘
Awesome dude! I have the Boss Katana MKII 100 and I have to say your choice of axe there was great! I ordered that exact guitar in January but due to covid and shipping problems (I'm in Canada) I still don't have my mitts on it......I'm told mid month. I like to hear the metal coming from that guitar, but I'm pretty sure it's the hands it's in!
Dude, it's an awesome guitar and probably not the first choice for metal, but I really wanted those lower output pickups to see what this amp could do!!! I was impressed all the way around...with the guitar and amp!
Freaking sounds amazing ! Awesome playing dude. Blues On....💙 PS I just subscribed.
Thank you for the sub!
Nice demo! Great rockin!
Thank you, I've got a new video coming out soon on the Line 6 Catalyst amp
Did the Katana replace the microcube series? I still have my old microcube I bought back in 2007... still works and I still use it everyday. Great playing Jason \m/ \m/
Thank you. I'm not sure as I'm really not that familiar with these amps. I just wanted to demo one of the newer popular practice amps. I was pretty impressed!
Great combo!!!!! Amp and guitar yeahhhh
Yeah dude, I really liked this guitar! I may come back and do a full review on that one!
Great video!

From Tampa… You gotta be a Savatage and Oliva brothers fan! You probably know them. I’m a good friend of Dr. Killdrums
I do know and good friends with the singer (Doug) and drummer (Ed) of Siren. They opened for Savatage back in the 80s. And they had a recent comeback (working a new album now).
Yep i bought it. Love it. Very versatile. 💯. Sorry buddy. Not just a practice amp 💯. Take care 👋✌️🎸🎸
It can certainly be used for other purposes...great amp!
great job on the demo, thanks. Very helpful. You set things up a lot like I do. I got this amp and I really like it. I'm not a fan of the interface with the expression pedals. Boss I just wish you could store a few more presets but I'm just being spoiled. Go ahead and add a built in tuner while your at it. Can't hurt to ask
Thank you! I may be revisiting this amp when I go back to Replay Guitar Exchange tomorrow to film again (got a really cool video coming out this week so stay tuned!)
Love you videos Man just curious can you take a camera and pan around your studio show us what it looks like we always see the same angle I think of pan would make us feel more like we're with you in the room

Great review Jason!
Thank you 🙏

Those are cool amps!
KA TA NA ✅ who is KA TANYA ? 😄
That amp sounds really warm and with the delay on for the leads it's like it time traveled from the 80's!
How does it sound with pedals in front?
LOL...if you only knew how often I screw up the names!!
I didn't try with pedals but I wouldn't see the need since it already has so many effects.
@@jasonstallworth nice demo man. I see people in online forums get so hung up on tube amp tones and the craze of having a tube screamer. I say, the first and most important ingredient of tone is some well trained digits!
@@allboutthemojo Well, this amp does have a boost, which I used on the channels with more gain...that acts as an OD. Maybe an actual OD pedal in front would better but I'm not sure.
I'm a dude of convenience and simplicity so I'd more than likely just used the options that come with the amp as opposed to having to lug more gear around.
I love my EVH 5150 III but it's heavy and I have a pedal board with a lot of cables that I have to carry around for gigs!
It's from CLEAN to MEAN!!! How can you miss that opportunity!!!?? It even rhymes!!!?? You're slipping Jason... I'm worried!!! Doctor!!!! Some one get a doctor!!

@@jasonstallworth let me know!
If you are looking for a cheapish amp that can handle many styles...this boss Katania might be the one for you :) also, man that guitar is quite the looker
Yeah dude, it’s seriously got me thinking of using this for the smaller gigs. Far less equipment to lug around as opposed to my tube amp, pedals, multiple cables, etc!
@@jasonstallworth there’s even more smaller ones that can be mic’ed up even more convenient or connected directly into the pa. With your wireless, your amp doesnt have to be next to you……thinking about katana air 2 or positive grid spark
@@Francob78 I need to play through one of those Sparks!
And yeah, that wireless is the best thing dude!

Delay on solos? It's a yes from me.

Strange I have the same amp but my controls are on the top not the front ...
I think this is the latest version of the Artist
Nice little package but not my favorite. Totally persona preference here but for an amp that size id go with the jcm800 20 watt.
That a great practice amp as well!!
Whats the best settings for thrash metal? And death metal?
There's really no 'best setting.' You have to play around with the amp and find what tones appeal to you. Any of the high gain amps would do the trick though
Why is it on brown sound with high gain, if I like mute or pause for a second there’s so much noise like feedback or buzzing going on can I fix that? I’d like to be able to play heavy riffs with silent pauses in them
sounds like you need a noise gate
@@jasonstallworth so I tried to noise suppression on the studio and it did not work well. Once activated it would cut out notes as I played them. It did help to silence the buzz during pause but while playing notes would just be silenced as well so I don’t know what to do
🤘🤘🤘🤘
🤘
Should I get this amp, or the newest Peavey Bandit 112?
That's really a personal decision, brother. They're both just practice amps so I don't think you can go wrong with either.
I tried the Artist compared with the Catalys and regular Katana...the Artist is far superior to any of them
Yeah it's got a lot more features!
Always add delay to my solos
I love some delay!
What songs where the playing at the start of the video? It sounded familiar but can't place it
I normally use songs from my Heavy Metal Workout album for the outros of my video. www.jasonstallworth.com/music/heavy-metal-workout/

Dude, I think it was 599 (price...can't remember the base/recommended). I believe these amps, like most music gear, have a set price across the board. So music shops had to really set themselves apart with their customer service, which the folks at Replay Guitar Exchange are amazing!
As much as I’ve been wanting to try these amps I’ve always reverted back to the line 6 spider amps, but I’m pretty basic with my sounds, need one heavy and one clean channel and I’m pretty much set, but i might try one the next time I’m at the guitar store
I’m totally with you on the basic sounds. Other than the few times I play some ambient parts, I don’t care to use a ton of effects and like to be able to quickly dial in a good tone! I’m sure the Spider is great for that!
this a good amp for bedroom playing?
it's great for that
@jasonstallworth so it can be played pretty quiet and still sound good? I live with multiple people so I'm just making sure. Thank you for the reply also
@@zachdoupe5571 yep the gain still sound good at lower volumes. In fact I personally think it sounds better at low volumes than high
Katania
HAHA thumbs up I have THAT amp and THAT guitar
It's a killer combination!
Does the Artist runs with A phone app or PC like the other Katanas?
I’m certain that it does! The main difference with the Artist is the upgraded speaker and a few other bells and whistles.
I've only just gained an appreciation for cleans, so now I need to have beautiful cleans with great high gain as well.
Yes I love the cleans!! It’s a great way to also use those to build into the heavier parts of a song!
That's a fantastic method, I'll have to start implementing it!.
I know this is an older Video,
Hey I live only 20 min from you!
