    Ideas for next steps:
    Freeze all the water.
    Dig tunnels between necessary regions that were sealed during the flooding.
    Build a ton of nature reserves with all the cold tolerant plants introduced via pips in new, artificial ice caves

    I honestly wish the Biobots had inverted priority or something. Have them do the low priority tasks while your dupes work on the high priority ones. They're great to expand your total workforce, but for an individual task the dupes are so much faster at completing them. Maybe have them unable to do any tasks that are priority 6 or higher, but still pick the highest priority task they can, that way you have an easy way of restricting a task to dupe only, but the bots still prioritize things in a way that's intuitive. I might look into making a mod for it. Haven't tried my hand at ONI modding in particular, but I've modded other games.

    Debris on rails uses lowest thermal conductivity, and steam has a lower TC than rock, so running it through tiles instead of steam would help. Metal tiles will work, but you don't get the full benefit of their high conductivity for stone debris -> tile transfer, just for tile -> steam. _Metal_ debris on rails through metal tiles will cool off extremely quickly, and just two tiles (with a gap between them) will nearly equalize a rail carrying iron at full flow just below it's melting point with the surrounding steam, making your turbines the limit for metal volcano taming. When I was experimenting with iron volcano tamers, the temperature of the first metal tile was bouncing up and down by hundreds of degrees with each packet, dropping the temperature of the items by over a thousand degrees.

      What is better a metal tile or pool of liquid?

    • @Br3ttM
      @Br3ttM 3 дні тому +2

      @@zeaol You want something with at least as much conductivity as the debris. Transferring the heat into the steam from the solid or liquid tile is much easier than from the debris, so you don't to go far above the material you want to cool. Igneous and obsidian have the same TC as petroleum, so that would work, but granite has a higher conductivity. There aren't that many things that are liquid at that temperature that have higher conductivity, and supercoolant or liquid nuclear waste aren't practical compared to basic metal tiles. Granite tile should work fine for cooling granite, although you might want tempshift plates to move heat from the granite to the steam (they can be granite, too). Metal or diamond tiles would be overkill for cooling stone, but if you have tons of extra metal from a volcano it's a good choice.

    I've had issues with the biobots as well, they are just slow.
    My solution was to have a Transit Tube entry into the Bot room with a dupe-blocked exit door to what I did want the bots to do: Since they can't use tubes, they bots will tend their areas, and the dupes will stay in theirs!
    For me, I have the bots at the map bottom collecting and delivering to the extreme temp setups and nothing else

    The reason the conduction panels don't cool your steam turbines is that the turbines are made of lead, which has really low conductivity. Use turbines made of gold/copper and the heat exchange will almost double.
    Your heat deleter can be made much more effective by having rails go through metal tiles. Several times more effective.
    You can disable dupe deliveries to storage by unchecking the "allow manual deliveries" box in the allowables section.

  • @tyraelpl

    Disagree. Conduction panels are amazing, the thing is, you need to NOT skimp on decent materials. Dont make STs from lead or at least make the panels from something like Al or Co. Even thermium if you can afford it. Obviously you get better results with a layer of liquid but look at the surface area, it's 5x that of a single panel. Duh it work better but also costs more refined metal, 2,5 more (100 for the panel vs 5x 50 for radiant pipes).
    One more thing. Did you know that the higher the temperature of the liquid input into the geothermal heat pump the better the treasures you're getting? Personally Im putting in magma at like ~2300°C average.

    You expressed concern about the transport tubes whisking away your power with pneumatic efficiency. What if you treated the hot rocks as a non-renewable source of power? Use the rocks as a heat reservoir which fuels your heat deletion device as power demands dictate. It would mean that you would have a stockpile of things like abysalite that you can't readily use, but when was the last time you built anything out of the stuff? If you really felt like being cleaver, you could try to prioritize what materials are used to heat up the steam.
    Also, 'our dupes are slow. Let's assign them more work (building plastic ladders)'

    33:05 run into that myself with autosweepers, i believe it's related to opportunistic hauling, specifically it grabbed debris from under the fryer then found the nearby stack in the fridge and merged them

    9:06- i see the conduction panel is made of gold for heat conductivity but isnt the low capacity a limiter in high temperture differential situations??
    i only ask because i tend to use steel for those conduction panels and i find they work far too well in low temperature differential situations
    and also it could be the panel placement i always place the conduction panel over the point where the building is placed from.

    • @ghan7241
      @ghan7241 3 дні тому +1

      I don't think its about the conduction panels. You can see the turbines r still too hot even after he dumped in the oil. Think the issue is with the 50C coolant - the aquatuners are not able to delete enough heat when the turbines r eating 300C steam. I believe the heat leak calculation is (steam temp-95C)*0.1, so when turbines r eating 300C steam they effectively outputs double the amount of heat as eating 200C. Referring to the nuclear reactor setup we know that 1 aquatner can cool down 10 turbines (with Nuclear waste), so it does makes sense that 1 aquatuner cannot cool down 5 300C turbines with salt water(which only have about 1/2 SHC as Nuclear waste). Long story short its about the coolant not the conduction panels :)
      FYI if I'm not wrong steel conduction panel is a complete waste because of its low conductivity vs. Aluminium/Gold

    • @deredware9442
      @deredware9442 3 дні тому

      Its because conduction panels were not designed for steam turbine cooling. Liquids or gasses interacting with buildings get something like a 10x increase to thermal transfer, conduction panels in vacuum don't get this. The panels are designed for things like cooling robominers and other buildings in space, not cooling steam turbines. They just can't handle the amount of heat transfer required.

    Why not modify the paths so that only the transport tubes are connected outside so the bio bots will only be in designated areas you want them?

  • @Serpher1
    @Serpher1 3 дні тому

    It would be amazing if you could assign only the specific tasks to biobots, like sweeping.

    Maybe lock the bio bots in a region behind a transport tube. although I am not sure there is something they are better than an autoloader.

      Or half the map water, half lava. Vertically split of course

    If only you had a real big water supply to dump on all that hot stuff to cool it down faster. I wonder where you could find a giant body of water to do something like that

    I like your method for cooling the rocks, but I've had better results by treating it like taming a metal volcano. By recirculating the rocks, it goes a little faster, I think.

    If the map is filling up too slow, is the repeat steam rocket chimneys still water positive if they are long enough? I mean you have the power and it might speed things along once you have some waterproofing done.

  •  3 дні тому

    Why did you bother with the fancy chain of auto sweepers, when you just dump it into a conveyor rail system at the end?

    If the kitchen is accessible only via tubes, then the bio bots cannot enter.
