Hi, I'm from Germany. A big part of the German history in one video. The black woman as Germania. Germania is the mother of the German nation. It isn't and wasn't a Goddess or Joan of Arc. The glass coffin: It is Little Snow White from the Grimm-fairytales....and from their own video "Sonne". Only with black skin and in space. The piano song at the end is the song "Sonne", too. The battle of the Teutoburg forrest against the Romans (and Rammstein as Roman soldiers and Germans alike). That battle is of ABSOLUTE importance for the German history. The hanged bodies in the trees were the beaten Roman soldiers, who were gruesome sacrificed to the Germanic gods...and were partly nailed to the trees. The Varus-(Teutoburg)-Battle was already in 9 AD. In 16 AD were the vengeance campaigns of Emperor Germanicus. Therefore we see here the arrival of the Roman troops of Germanicus and they are watching their dead comrades hanging in the trees or getting their heads chopped off (for nailing them to the trees). In reality the Romans under Germanicus found only the bones of the Varus army in the various ways they were slaughtered, sacrificed and displayed at the trees. Slaves were liberated even decades after the battle. After the scenes with the Romans we saw the Hindenburg Zeppelin disaster (the burning Zeppelin in the background). The V2 rocket (first manmade object in space) as technical triumph of the German spirit...and at the same time the killing of the concentration camp prisoners in the bunker factories below the mountains during the production of that rocket. This scene in the video could be a representation of a very specific concentration camp. It was "Mittelbau-Dora" below the Kohnstein mountain. A mixture between a big, huge bunker factory for V1 and V2 rockets and a concentration camp. The concentration camp inmates had several different markings for different kinds of convicts and their "crimes" sown to their chests, like it was in reality, too. A pink triangle for homosexuals, the star of David for Jews and two of them were marked with the double-triangles for Jehovas Whitnesses. The book burnings of the Nazis and the burning of the witches of the church. In the same scene with the book burning there is EVEN MORE going on. The cooperation of the church with the Nazis, when the priest with the cross embraces the Nazi SA-man. The scene with the sign with the Hammer and a pair of compasses in a circle of wheat is the sign of the GDR (DDR). The socialst German state in the east that existed before the German reunification. Therefore it was Karl Marx in the background in the scene with the tank (not the scene at the concentration camp). The scene with Rammstein wielding guns (the pumpgun) and taking Germania hostage was about leftwing terrorism of the 1970's. The terrorists were called the RAF (Rote Armee Fraktion). My interpretation of the red scanner-like beams: There are two different kinds of beams. The massive straight red light beam that goes up into the heavens AND there were those smaller, thinner "scanner" beams. Aliens (or humans from the future) are scanning the whole German history. Like some real scientists are scanning and excarvating ancient Mexican or Egyptian statues, for example. The massive red light beam is the red ribbon of time that ties together all the historical events. PS: As for the dogs: Germans are fanatical dog lovers. We are a dog-owner nation. The dog is a firm part of Germany. PPS: They didn't eat the body of the woman and her inner organs, even if it really looked that way. They were eating the national dish of Germany, that was put on the body of the black woman: Sauerkraut, Kassler & sausages. PPPS: The short scene with the dogs and their gas masks = WWI, where in reality animals (messenger dogs & horses) AND soldiers were wearing gas masks, too. PPPPS: The puppies at the end are Leonberger dogs. The Leonbergers nearly went extinct during WWI and WWII. PPPPPS: My interpretation of the glass coffin is Little Snow White in space, like I wrote before. PPPPPPS: The black woman in the prison was dressed in a Prussian uniform with a Prussian helmet. Finally: The scenes I'm now talking about are pretty dark and low light. The WWII submarine in the submarine bunker during the astronauts are walking by with the glass coffin. I think, the choice of the black woman as main actress was made, because: a) it makes any accusations of racism and fascism against Rammstein useless b) she represents one colour of the German flag and she is wearing the rest of the colours of our German flag as makeup and jewellery and clothes on her body: Black, Red and Gold c) it provokes many people EVEN MORE 😄 Recommendation for a review: The band "Schwarzer Engel" and their song "Schwarze Sonne". Greetings Mega 🙂
You like copy and paste it under almost every reaction, don't you. At least don't spread false information. Germania isn't the mother of Germany, she is the national personification of or an allegory for the country. It is like the pale bone guy with the hoodie and the scythe is Death. Germania is for Germany what Marianne is for France, Europa for Europe, Britannia for the UK or the knight Holger Danske for Denmark. Some countries have a "mother" as personification but this is an allegory.
Till Replaces “Alles” with “Allen” as in “Deutschland Over Everyone”. Referring to Germany’s Imperialistic and Fascist past. It’s not a “Deutschland Ist Der Ubermensch” song, quite the opposite. The lyrics deal with his inability to reconcilliate his love of his homeland with the atrocities it has committed. And the last lyric he sings is “Meine Liebe Kann Ich Dir Nicht Geben” saying “My Love I cannot Give You”.
ich distanziere mich vom nationalsozialismus I understand, but I believe it was actually removed from the current national anthem because of the open Nazi embrace of it. It is not by its self “nationalistic”, yet people view it that way.
I agree, i think there is kind of sadness, when he sings Deutschland, Deutschland uber Allen. Like plenty of empires Germany got its proud and shameful moments they showed both. Most of us facing simillar reality, I think we all can refer to our equivalent of Deutschland.
LMAO as I was watching this video, I thought of how great he looks as a man and what an ugly woman he makes 😂😂😂 I think Schneider makes the best woman lol
Greetings from Germany! I happened to see a couple of reactions to Rammstein's Deutschland so far. I have seen about half of this video and I am happy to see people reacting to it who recognize references like to the "Liebe ist für alle da" Artwork and seem to know something about the band they react to. Keep up the nice work, appreciate this video! Greetings Jan
Grüße nach Norden an unseren nördlichen Nachbarn. Nice funny reaction. And even as a German it was hard for me to follow all the details in the video. It's a true piece of art. So intense. I like the video even more as the song.
To the "Deutschland Deutschland über allen" - i am pretty sure that is meant sarcasticly as this Motto that nationalists had, also regarding the arian race, led to the biggest downfall germany ever had. But in this case "allen" includes "alles" so germany above all. AlleN is usually correct when adressing people, alleS / alleM things / everything. In this case however its meant to be above all NATIONS which grammaticly is correct with AlleN
I love this video. I'm not a native German but it has brought me to learn a few things about German history; and really that's what this video is. The fire of Germany's heart and how it has been driven to do wonderful and terrible things. The quintessential human condition. The truth in that all of us born in the wrong circumstances could become the next tyrant. And to be honest, this video, and the song is quintessentially Rammstein.
The song is actually about a lot of Germans wish to be proud and patriotic for their home country like all the other nations. But they can't because of the dark history. So it's about the twist most Germans feel in this topic. Just in case you even care 😉
For your information: The woman, Ruby Commey, represents Germania (Deutschland), the country and people throughout History. 1) Germany east of the Rhine which the Romans called Magna Germania. Battle of Teutoburg Forest where the ''barbaric'' German tribes defeated the mighty Roman Empire under the leadership of Arminius (Hermann), now a venerated German hero. 2) Astronauts escorting a U-Boat. Trademark submarine of the Kriegsmarine (German Navy) in both World Wars. 3) Boxing fight in Weimar Republic (1919-1939) an unstable and violent kind of democracy which preceded the Nazi regime. 4) Corpses in armor during the Crusades. The girl with the flag personifies Germany herself. 5) Members of the band marching in front of the ''Hindenburg Disaster'' a zeppelin which caught fire with 36 people being killed. 6) Members of the band in an office of the Stasi (Secret Police) in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). 7) The girl (Germany) walks 5 dogs. It shows the love and affection Germans always had for them. 8) Monks in a cellar walking with rats around them. A reference to the bubonic plague (Black Death) which devastated Europe in the Middle Ages. 9) The monks eating from the body of Germany symbolize the devouring of the ideal of nation throughout German history. 10) The people under the table are gagged and in latex. Germans may have BDSM tendencies. 11) Astronauts around the statues of the great Germans of the past. 12) Members of the band are in chains with money falling near them. A reference to the hyperinflation of the post WWI era. 13) The rocket refers to the infamous V2 rocket weapons which Hitler claimed would crush the Allies during WWII. 14) Execution of Jew captives in a concentration camp. 15) Lead singer's crossdressing with the rest of the band carrying weapons in wigs represents the Baader/Meinhof gang, a far-left terrorist group of the seventies in West Germany. 16) Burning of the witches in Middle Ages. 17) Burning of books from Nazi officers. 18) A frame depicts a monk and a Nazi hugging each other. We see the close connection between the church and the national socialist regime. 19) Germany giving birth to dogs. Huge allusion ain't got time for that sorry. 20) Tanks passing in front of a Karl Marx facade. Allusion to communism as a dictatorship. 21) People clashing with the police with molotov cocktails. Again depiction of the political turbulence. 22) At the end the girl (Germany) becomes an angel watching over the band (her people). From: Panayotis Haralabopoulos
No, you were absolutely correct in identifying the reference of "über allen". And it was combined with that scene precisely for that reason, but as a criticism (so it was sarcastic, in that sense). Grammatically, the difference between "allen" and "alles" is that alles refers to things, whereas allen refers to people. There's also "allem" with an M, which would be "everything". In any case, it's well known that this line (with an s) is associated with nationalism; so is that scene, and it's also well known and well understood as an atrocity and crimes against humanity, as well as that it rightfully led to Germany's ruin. So, it's put into contrast - not used for the purpose of glorification, but for the purpose of derision. But you identified the line correctly.
I realize I am quite late to the conversation: but I felt there was something missing about Germania, the personifcatiion of Germany. I read somewhere, and I bought into the idea, that the video clearly presents her as something alien: Garmania (Magna) is what the Romans callled the territory and the people populating it 2000 years ago, although there were many different German tribes living in those woods. And at the end, Germania is put in a glass coffin like snowwhite and in a sleep like death is sent back into space. So the idea of the German nation or is presented as an originally foreign concept, showing how over centuris the Germans have been struggling to give meaning to national identity: What should we be? Different tribes? Christian under Rome? Empire or regional power? Catholic or protestant? Monarchy or republic? Communist or nationaalist (Weimar)? Are we in a fight against another race? Is a devided Germany capitalist (quasi fascist) in the West and socialist (a defacto class society) in the east? Can a reunified Germany accept a black woman as German (the German actress Ruby Commey playing germania was born in 1991). In paintings Germania is often accompanied by sun rays, marking the dawn of a new era. I thiught the video with all the red beams and dark chapters of German history is also about the future of German national identity, as Snowwhite will some day wake up from her sleep again.
"Deutschland über alles" is the part from the original German hymn that was cut away after WWII .. for obvious reasons.. the fact that a concetration camp-prisoner sings this is supposed to underline how wrong this line was
Maybe you must learn better to understand german language, rammstein are singing "Deutschland über Allen" and not "Deutschland über Alles" from the old german hymn, its a great difference
Hey, check "Turbo killer" clip by "Carpenter Brut" too!) It's a mix of rock and old synthwave, you might like it! (I found only one reaction on yt about this super-duper clip, strange)
You did not understand the music video! It shows the darkest events in history and how to live with two hearts in the chest. "Love and hate" . In the next music video "RADIO" by Rammstein the band tells about living with bans on radio in the past! Look at it, it's very good.
This, I think, is Till's love letter to Germany. It's a complex love-hate thing because of the appalling history of abuse, violence, hatred, repression & death....& yet a history also full of art, creativity & hope. My take on the laser line is this represents the German people, who have always & will always exist, regardless of whatever nationalist form 'Germania' takes on. The Germania in space I took to be perhaps Till saying Germany will carry on perfectly well without any of that, it's more harm than good & probably best left in the deep freeze (of space). It's an amazing piece of art, typical of Rammstein to face even the worst parts of German history head on, the nazi imagery here is completely & artistically justified, this is as anti-nazi a song as it gets. The song is fantastic too. Radio is another on this album talking about repression (but in the old extinct communist east German state, which also features here in this video as corrupt, hypocritical & another system grossly abusing people & power), no surprise as every 1 of the members of the band grew up experiencing the east German state. These guys know 1st hand what a totalitarian state is like to live under. The claim that they might have fascist sympathies is absurd (& directly against everything they have ever said on the subject). I try to imagine other countries' artists being so successful similarly confronting their dark past (so many have 1). I doubt it happening, perhaps an indication of how far on Germany has come?
Good reaction, different from other reactors! Love Rammstein. Did you ever check out metal from Japan? Maybe nice to try Dir en grey "uroko" or Maximum the hormone " What's up people" or "Yoshu fukushu ". Don't be scared of the japanese lyrics ....
I don't remember that the Nazi's were launching V1 rockets from Auschwitz, wasn't it the Pas-de-Calais area on the northern coast of France and subsequently from other sites in German-occupied western Europe?.
8:14 - the difference is, he's saying "Deutschland, Deutschland uber allen", not "alles". As in, it's not Germany is above all other nations, it's Germany is above all other people, including it's own... which is where nationalistic bullsh!t like the Nazis sprung from: forgetting that the "many" are composed of the "few". It's basically a critique of the fascist outlook.
My interpretation of the red beams: It symbolizes the red thread (Roter Faden). In Germany we can say that violence and arrogance/illusion of superiority (Überheblichkeit) runs like a red thread through Germany's History connecting the times, also that the Crusaders and Nazis burn books at the same time hints to the message/the warning that History repeats itself again and again, together with the line "Germany- so young but still so old" it shows that Rammstein are very indirectly refering to and warning about the new right-wing movements and political parties in Germany which mostly succeed because of the horrible refugee politics of the german government, strengthening / making it easy for racists to become popular again. Chosing a black woman as Germania (A symbol of unification of all the german tribes and kingdoms / The Mother of Germany being Also Mama Africa) also supports me in this interpretation. Germania giving birth to german shepherd dogs can also be interpretated as a dying Germany (National Pride was replaced by Multiculturalism, Humanitarianism and tolerance (in theory)) once again giving birth to a bunch of loyal individuals who are so in love with their pack they may seem cute at the moment but may develope into deadly killing machines when they grow.
And I think it is not only for the credits at the end but it gives it also another meaning. Hier kommt die Sonne can also have the meaning that better times are coming. Like the silver line on the horizon.
Hope this stays up, this video has been getting ban-hammered like a motherfucker on just about every reaction channel. Rammstein, or their company (for some reason) don't seem to understand the benefit of having their videos on these channels. Anyway, it's a great video with alot of excellent social commentary in it. Have a great weekend, my dudes!
Guys I lasted till 4:18 and couldn't watch anymore because of constant pausing of video and random talk.If you wan't to do reactions DO them while watching and reacting to the content , this format is unbearable..To me at least. Just some constructive criticism.
Watch a video of two British guys reacting, they fucking pissed me off coz they skipped half of the Rammstein video, I just turned off their video and put thumbs down.
The same Rammstein promo machinery as always. Much gerrrrman "rrrrr" in the song, again well-calculated provocation, and everyone is going "ohhh, how shocking and ohhh, how original". It`s neither the one nor the other. Music for muscle factory guys with hairdressers on the passenger seat and a Diddl mouse hanging from the rear view mirror. Boring since the end of the 90s. There is so much more electro metal stuff out there...
Finally:
The scenes I'm now talking about are pretty dark and low light. The WWII submarine in the submarine bunker during the astronauts are walking by with the glass coffin.
I think, the choice of the black woman as main actress was made, because:
a) it makes any accusations of racism and fascism against Rammstein useless
b) she represents one colour of the German flag and she is wearing the rest of the colours of our German flag as makeup and jewellery and clothes on her body: Black, Red and Gold
c) it provokes many people EVEN MORE 😄
Recommendation for a review:
The band "Schwarzer Engel" and their song "Schwarze Sonne".

Det er bare en fed sang de er kommet med der :) synger de om deres had og kærlighed for tyskland?
Gruesse aus Deutschland D Nice Song btw
Outro...mein Herz brennt
I don't remember that the Nazi's were launching V1 rockets from Auschwitz, wasn't it the Pas-de-Calais area on the northern coast of France and subsequently from other sites in German-occupied western Europe?.
Lovely reaction, please do one for rammstein radio song.
A lot of the scenes are about the Weimar Republic.
React to Sonne live from Rock am Ring 2010. It's one of their finest👌🏻
It's Sonne goddammit!
Or is it..
@@thetwodanes6796 th.. The Sun????
Or the moon in disguise!?!
And I think it is not only for the credits at the end but it gives it also another meaning.
Hier kommt die Sonne can also have the meaning that better times are coming. Like the silver line on the horizon.
@@thetwodanes6796 on a real though, glad you're back, your reactions are great
Hi, I'm from Germany and the first thing ima do when i am president is give schleswig-holstein back to denmark. promise!
We sure hope so too! Great weekend to you!
Sonne !
Guys I lasted till 4:18 and couldn't watch anymore because of constant pausing of video and random talk.If you wan't to do reactions DO them while watching and reacting to the content , this format is unbearable..To me at least. Just some constructive criticism.
You got your ways, we got our ways
Watch a video of two British guys reacting, they fucking pissed me off coz they skipped half of the Rammstein video, I just turned off their video and put thumbs down.
You can watch the video after or before the reaction.
It would be worst if they talked over the song
Sonne at 37 Degree in Germamy xD
Na Jungs, alles klar!
'Hier kommt die Sonne'.
I liked "Puppe" more (from this same new album)
Please, Denmark, take over. Mecklenburg need you.

RRRRRRRammstein
impossible to watch... no knowlegdge... go to school.
