As far as funeral services go this is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
Wait for the backlash from the last of the altar rail eater's,who most do so bc they got wrong things on their mind,when i was young i ended up in mass with me folks was made go for communion when some person a lay person tryed to give me the wafer body of Christ i told her to stick it id wait for priest and remebered me Da beside me,his f*ckin gonna leather me,no he says im waiting for priest also,didnt know about the sexual abuse cases at that stage or i would told the priest to stick it also🎉

Catholic churches are already places of joy and happiness, because they are places of prayer and reverence. Dancing and non-liturgical music is perfectly fine for the after party at the pub or at family houses. I know how much you all just despise this, but, Shane Patrick MacGowan was a Catholic. He prayed daily, received holy communion, and received last rites just before he reposed. Of all of the peoples of the world, I have found it is the Irish who are best at celebrating the life of a soul passed on. The very best at living in the shadow of death. Even in the same room. We will all miss Shane, and the talent he brought to bear on the world. Even those like me who never met him. He touched us all in some way. In his legacy he will never be forgotten. Perhaps he looks down on us now, and with Kirsty sang along with Glen, Lisa, and the fine ensemble who played for him on his way. I'd like to think so. RIP Shane, but oh to live, not just be alive. Be well everyone.

Fairytale of New York has always been my favourite Christmas song. Glad to see they didn't bow to the usual pressures and actually sang the full lyrics as it should be performed.

At the after party, yes, certainly. Not during the requiem mass. Notice that the only ones dancing were just a few people in the very front row. That was it. That isn’t usually allowed, but it was probably permitted by the priest given the emotional atmosphere and that fact that it was a spur of the moment type thing.
Try to remember that MacGowan was a pretty faithful catholic who prayed and took holy communion regularly. With all due respect, a lot of you are making his funeral less about his soul and more about yourselves. Catholics and Orthodox Christians do not have funerals as a “celebration of life”; they are meant for time of deep prayer to assist the soul through the death process.
If any of you reading this are catholic, please have mass intentions said for the repose of his soul. Before anything else, he was and still is a child of God. The man deserves this.
