  • We head out from Birdsville to take on the infamous Big Red sand dune, the highest dune in the Simpson Desert, before heading out along the QAA Line past Eyre Creek for a look.

    Big red is so awesome! I traveled through the Simpson desert and big red was my first real drive in a 4WD lol. Also Birdsville hotel has the best schnitzels!!

      Joshua Gambrill Yes it has Josh. We are also setting up some better recording processes and are hoping to start shooting with three go-pros and two fixed video cams so should capture some great action.

    The western side main track on Big Red is a doddle with low-enough tyre pressures and in the right gear. Even managed to get a fully loaded old diesel daihatsu 4by up that way - and they are pretty darn gutless compared to the new breed. A Disco TD5 just cruises up. You needed lower tyre pressures.

    Great video! But, one question, Why weren't you able to cross the Simpson Desert with you dog?

    • @Misadventure4WD
      @Misadventure4WD  9 років тому +3

      +coimita The Simpson Desert crossing is made up of several National Park and Conservation areas which don't allow pets, and since it takes a few days to make it across to Mt Dare, we couldn't just keep her in the car all that time. Anyway, we got a good feel for the desert and had a bit of fun on the detour.

    May I ask what tyre pressures you were running in the 200 when attempting Big Red?

    • @Misadventure4WD
      @Misadventure4WD  9 років тому +1

      Fawkesp From memory mate, Mick dropped them to around 18 on the first runs and then down to 14's for the last run.

    Just curious, would it be easier to drive on dunes if you were driving a vehicle that weighed less?

      Simply turn off traction control. Sand and traction control = bogged. In the defender,= fuse number 7. Disco3 hit the DSC button, (recommended by Land Rover).

    If it took you guys that many attempts at getting up big red, you seriously should not be driving 4WD's, but thank you for the video anyway, it was entertaining.

    Hey Jamie, love to see Misadventure 4WD back again after that short and understandable break, great Vid mate, the obvious question is when will we see the new beast out on the tracks. I've been suffering Misadventure 4WD withdrawals hahaha.

    • @Misadventure4WD
      @Misadventure4WD  9 років тому +1

      Dennis Grand Thanks Dennis. We've been going a little stir crazy ourselves. Just a few things to sort out on the new ride and some testing before we head out on the tracks to shoot some footage. Stay tuned ;)
