the problem is some bluray movies or games are dual layer disc that's the problem your ps3 lens can't read dual layer games movies anymore it happend with the ps2 also
So, I just got Deadpool 2 super duper cut on Blu-ray. It doesn't want to work when I put it in the tray. On a hunch, I turned off the system and turned it back on... it started working.
I messed with mine and got it to work once, then I saw your comment and switched it to bitstream and its fine now, some blutay discs are thicker than others and I think thats what the issue and switch the audio somehow compensates for that and man I should lay off the red bulls
My issue with my PS3 is it will not play my Police Academy box set. On the back of the box set it says Dual Layer Format. What settings do I have to go to in order for the movies to play. My neighbor also has a PS3 an the disc's work just fine on his.. asking for help please 🙏
Just came across this video because my ps3 had seemed to stop reading blu ray aswell... however I removed the disc and blew into the console and boom the disc registers just fine. It's a bit odd to come to the conclusion , it reminded me of being a kid and blowing on old Nintendo games ... but hey it works and is easier then replacing the laser!!!

I watched deadpool 2 just fine on blue ray then popped in Jurassic newest movie on blue ray and it kept freezing during the very beginning credit reels. Anyway it worked and I highly recommend watching deadpool 2 on mushrooms for the first time. I'm going to watch Jurassic like 10 now and see if it can keep me entertained like deadpool did anyways 🍻
I have a ps3 slim to, but my ps3 slim have problem with the memory it is geting old, but my gamecube is 20 year old and work with no problem, maybe thats how often i play on it
It's because the PS3 model is 5-6 years old, and the latest Blu Ray disc releases are up to date. I have the same with mine, as I now play them on my XBOX One I have no problems. Unless the Blu Ray drives don't update themselves you'll have to buy a 2015 model.
Mine wasnt playing or spinning. I replaced the laser and it only played cd and dvd but not blu-ray. I cleaned the lens with alchol and q-tip and everything works now. Thank you

Jan. 26 , 2022... I've dusted the PS3 off for the heck of it... everything works except Blu - Ray movies... Standard DVD work fine... and the couple of games I have .. I'm mostly an Xbox guy anyway, but I just cranked the old 3 up just to make sure it works at all... it used to play Blu - Ray movies... but it's just a collector's item now anyway...
Noooooo it still works! Plug it in and turn it on Then eject the disc Then hold down the eject button for a few seconds You should hear another beep They disc tray will realign 😊 and your movie should work

Ah, my issue is a bit more widespread. My PS3 outright refuses to read _any_ BD discs, be it game discs or movies. DVDs and CDs will run just fine, but BDs are a no-go now. It's a bummer, I suppose, but then again the console is just a piece of inexpensively made consumer technology.
I am having an issue where mine will play dvds but when I put in a ps3 game disk and try to start the game it goes to black screen and nothing happens and it freezes. Anybody have a fix or know what the problem is? Downloaded games play fine.
This is the dumbest fix ever, but it worked for me. Put the blueray disc in & then tilt the ps3 all the back standing straight up & it loads the movie. Like I said it sounds stupid, but it worked for me.

I tried all the things you've said,I turned the 1080p(HDMI) off and tried to play from beginning rather than just playing,and I still can't get it to work, it loads like normal and displays,I click on it and then it says " Playback of this disc is prohibited on this device" and I can only press back to get to the browser sometimes it looks like it's gonna play after that cause it shows the play/pause and all that but it still just goes back to browser.
Actually that is not true. I have the exact same PS3 slim as u do and I haven't had a problem with it playing Bluray movies until now. It used to be able to play all my Bluray movies until the last week or so. It won't play the Bluray disc at all but if I put the DVD of the same movie then it will play. I can play almost every game except NBA 2K13. Why it is doing that I don't know. I was playing GT6 when it froze so I exit the game and mysteriously the game shut itself off and back on without warning today. It said something about I need to update to 4.5.0. Which I don't know what that is. Can u tell me if I really need an update? Or should I replace the Bluray laser?
This started happening to me as well! Please let me know if you come up with a solution. This is so frustrating. HOWEVER, I do find that if I play a game for 15-20 (enough to warm the ps3 up) and then put in the bluray that wouldn't work prior and it plays fine. Let me know! Subbed :D
Your video was uploaded in 2013 and is already three years old in 2016 so no idea if you already fixed it. However, either the lens is dirty or the laser is already weak. I had similar problem as yours which my PS3 is picky and played some games without issue while others I had to eject several times before it reads but when I cleaned the lens it's fixed. CD lens cleaner didn't help but when I opened it and cleaned using a Q-tips it works. But if the laser is already weak then cleaning doesn't help.
I heard you talk about games four PlayStation 3 make sure your console got hard drive in it it don't have it you can play certain games in your console I got one here won't play if you have hard drive in it bioshock 2 some games where's logo play some PlayStation's someone 2K games

This exact thing is happening to me, updated my ps3 and it recognizes some blurays and not others.

My PS3 slim just works fine, the Blu-rays and other games too I have no problem with it at all. I’m glad that I don’t have that issue or in 2018.

Well my detailed observation suggests that blu ray need more power, and heating, also if it is not in use for some times problem could be faced

Yeah i just tried Hurricane Heist Movie for Blu-Ray on PS3 and it didnt read the disc i tried wipping the disc, that never helped.
